<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>I'll take this really slow since you probably haven't seen championship hockey since the late 60's in Toronto and pace of the game has changed since then.

1) <strong>The crack at the lineup was making further mockery of the joke of a team that's been rebuilding since 1967 not a statement of what a GM has powers over.</strong> The fact you couldn't pick that up says wonders about cheering for a team in futility.
2) Zaitsev has publicly requested a trade. Bringing him back is just about as bad of a decision as sitting Matthews during elimination time and still retaining the coach. But<strong> in order to move him you are going to have to retain salary in the trade.</strong> Why? It's a concept as simple as throwing your jersey on the ice or having ugly yellow guardrails behind your bench (a reference to Maple Leaf Gardens in case you're too new to hockey to get it): <strong>he's a 3rd pairing guy that generates no offense and is paid like he's a #2 or #3 d-man with multiple years left</strong>. No one will take that as they aren't as dumb as the Leaf's GM.
3)Yeah, offer sheets are coming as the analytic departments get more say in player personnel. Why? because <strong>younger players are making and thriving in the NHL and the pressure to win (outside of the St. Pat's Losers since 1967) has grown.</strong>
4) Welcome to watching how NHL championship hockey is run--I know you have no experience with that.</div></div>

Thread: Wild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Well this is a very optimistic approach for Leafs situation. I just don't see Marner accepting a deal like that. I frankly haven't seen anything that would point to him agreeing in any deal under $10M, not even taking the term into account.

As for MIN, I don't see them accepting that deal. Considering how much I've heard Wild fans praising Spurgeon, he has more value than the entire package you're offering to them...

CGY and EDM deals are interesting though. Don't know whether CGY need Kadri as they'd have him basically playing on the same role as Jankowski in there (3C).</div></div>

Dougie Gilmore is all I have to say about that contract but I do have the cap space to give him 1m more.

The idea for the Calgary trade came about from a conversation on here between some other flames fan and myself. The workload is falling to the triple m line. Yes Kadri would be a 3c again but that may be exactly what they need. Frolik will be gone. They need scoring from their top 9. They also need better defensive play from their forwards. I would personally love to see Kadri in Calgary.

The Edmonton trade is just standard... wish that they would just have that trade auto added to every agm lol. Might not be Edmonton might not be a 3rd but he is gone. Which is too bad. I love brown.

The wild trade... this one erks me too. I dodn’t Really like it for either side when I was done with it. Yes spurgeon is good but did he get them into the playoffs? Are they going to resign him? Toronto could certainly make a different trade and go after him in ufa if he makes it. Think the value of the trade depends on the value that you put on zaitsev.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>With all due respect, you cannot get under the cap without moving Nylander, Kadri or Kapanen unless you want to make ridiculous moves. Unless, of course, you want to adopt the fantasy of having Marleau retire.</div></div>

That is factually incorrect. Two to 3 players will need to be moved yes, but Nylander, Marleau and Zaitsev are 3 people that either shouldn't be or are highly unlikely to be moved.

Move guys that can be easily replaced with cheaper options. Brown can be moved for a 3rd, 2.1 million in savings. Move Kapanen for a equal value ELC and you save up to 2 million. Run a 22 man roster and you save another close to a million.

People are too focussed on right now, everyone wants instant gratification, but the reality is TO is still building. They have entered their window but what they need to do is find the right pieces to maximize the window. Moving Nylander for a 29 year defenceman to make this season easier for fans to swallow is stupid. Trying out young players (especially cheap depth wingers) and giving young defenceman a chance to develop and show their mettle is the most prudent course. Next season the team has a lot more money that can be used for bolder moves. Jumping the gun has ruined many teams and TO should know better. Look at Edmonton, they jumped the gun and almost have to restart since they lack prospects to support MCDavid and they have many terrible contracts that they won't be able to move without spending huge assets to move. Lucic isn't an NHL players anymore and has 4 more seasons of decline a head of him. The Leafs have Marleau for this season. And that's it.

Patience is the key.
