All 3 guys should be AHL depth guys.
You need 3-4 upgrades in your bottom 6 here, while keeping your depth guys, otherwise it will be another flop of a season.</div></div>
Senators have a really good top 6F / Top 4D, but what I am wondering about is the cap space. Senators are already a Cap strapped team and they have to sign both Sanderson & Chychrun soon. Number 1 goalie? Depth? How are they supposed to fix all these things without Cap space:huh

Too much term for a 4th line center. I've heard Devils fans say Severson is terrible defensively. Veleno should also be playing.

You can't seriously think that Wings would do this. Wings are trading their Calder winner and their 4th overall pick for a 29y old LD.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Congratulations, you just made this team marginally better...enough to fight for the last wildcard spot and miss out on the lottery.
The current team is in a really tough spot. Yzerman is almost at the tipping point where the team will be stuck in the zone of being a perpetual pretty ok to pretty good team that generally is at best a 2nd round out (Minnesota, Nashville, Carolina, NYI, etc). Adding all of the players proposed here will most certainly make the team a bit better, but it won't be meaningful enough. The team lucked out and got the elite 1D every cup contender needs (Seider), and has all the support pieces at reasonable contracts, but there is a serious void when it comes to having a true goalscorer , a true 1C or 2C, and any competent RD options outside Seider.
My suspicion is Yzerman (outside winning the draft and taking Fantilli or Bedard) will target Pelikka Sandin at any means possible. That is 3 years out before Sandin can likely contribute meaningful minutes at RD on the second pair. Yzerman is also going to have to take a gamble on trading Wallinder or Johansson, as Edvinsson looks ready for 2nd pair LD; Wallinder and Albert Johansson can both play RD, but having Seider be the only right shot D is a problem. Use a D prospect and maybe trade for an elite shooter, but who?
No matter how you slice it, thus team has real issues going forward. I'm really curious to see what Yzerman has planned, as just making the playoffs is not the goal, being a perpetual cup contender is the goal</div></div>
Wings are 8th worst in the league right now and could even move up 2-3 spots ( Not good for the draft, but it's nice to see progress on the ice ). Even without these signings Red Wings would not be winning the lottery. We are not even close to that bad. I think you're forgetting which players are the future of this team. It's not these UFA's. Larkin and the u23 core is the future. These signings makes this team better for now and for the short future which is nice. Team is making progress every year while the prospects are developing nicely. If we can already be a mid team, imagine how good this team will be when all the young guys are in their primes.
Look at the Blues Stanley Cup roster, it wasn't a team with a bunch of superstars, but they had really good depth and were hard to play against. You don't have to win a Draft lottery to be a successful team, but of course It helps.

What? Henry Thrun was just traded for a 3rd and he was a 4th round pick himself. Teams can still make trades, but those players can't play in the NHL. Or I'm stupid:tearsofjoy
Or did Mastrosimone tell yzerman too late that he doesn't want to sign a contract?

Most underrated player in the draft because people don't know how good the Swiss NL is. Reinbacher plays against AHL level competition already. Simon Nemec just went 2nd overall after a good year in the ( Slovakian League ) which is a much worse league than NL.

This roster is awful right now, but I don't really blame Yzerman. The depth on this team looked really promising in the offseason, but this team will never make the playoffs as long as we're this injury prone. Bertuzzi, Vrana and Fabbri have all been important to this team, but none of them can stay healthy. Now Rasmussen, Husso and Chiarot are injured as well. Imagine this team if we hadn't signed Kubalik or Perron:tearsofjoy

Detroit Still Rebuilding
SUPER LONG rebuild if we go this route. We should take advantage of the Cap space, but I think this is little bit too much. Hathaway and Acciari would be fun adds, but I think it's much more important to give the young guys playing time. Keep the young guys together and don't trade / overpay old UFA's. Unless it's a star player.
Get as many 1sts and 2nds as possible, but be sure that the young guys are playing. Rasmussen for only 1,460,000 it's a steal. We should continue to make these cheap bridge deals. Having players with RFA status is important. Zadina has such a small Cap hit and he is a RFA after his current contract. It's much more likely that a 23y old is improving than getting worse. Yzerman would look like a fool if Zadina would suddenly start to produce on another team.

Senators: Stuzle, Tkachuk, Giroux, Debrincat and Batherson.
Wings: Larkin. As we can see, lack of scoring is a huge problem.

If our cap situation were that dire, we'd trade someone like Alex Iafallo at below-market than take a complete loss on the one year. And that's if some team wouldn't be willing to pay say a fourth and take a chance on Petersen because the "UFA-market is really weak this summer and teams that are in a desperate need of goaltending are probably gonna overpay" because they, too, realize that they can get rid of Petersen for $1 million in 2024 -2025 and $2 million in 2025-2026. Petersen's contract isn't close to the "boat anchor" that, say, Brendan Gallagher's or Josh Anderson's is.</div></div>
Yes, a team can be desperate for a goalie, but it does not mean that a GM would trade for a .905% Ahl goalie who makes 5-million🤣
I know the Jakub Vrana situation was a mess, but he had almost zero trade value at even 50% retained. He was traded for a 7th. Petersen has more term on his deal and you think you can get something back for him🤔

I didn’t want to be biased. I don’t know if I would even self do this. Yzerman would probably want at least a 1st round pick back. Or a good prospect.

Is that really worth it tho? Cap space is the most valuable asset. Kings should be contenders for years to come, but you would rather have Petersen on the payroll untill 2026 instead of making the team better?
I know Petersen’s contract is not a boat anchor, but trading away Monahan with only a year left on his contract cost a 1st round pick. I would say this is pretty reasonable price when Petersen has more term.
