Opening night prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>islesadist</b></div><div>just curious, is robertson not viewed as an nhl player?</div></div>
Robertson is only 21; still lots of time, I (& I think a lot of Leaf fans) would love to see him dominate (& stay healthy) in ahl for an extended period before bringing him up.
He has to play in top 6 to be effective (he’s not a 4th line player) and unless someone is traded or injured, really no room right now. He is waiver exempt so we may see him move up and down depending on how season unfolds.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Yes, Ruzicka is a very good young RFA player under team control that can play just as well as Kerfoot at 1/3 the cost for the next 3 years
Kerfoot would simply be a rental who CGY would only consider 50-75% retained. CGY has Dube, Ruzicka & Pelletier >= Kerfoot. Pretty sure Kerfoot signs a $4mil+ contract next season, which CGY wouldn’t be interested in at all
I like Kerfoot but only at $2mil/yr or less</div></div>
Kerfoot only holds a cap hit of 3.5 million. He's only owed 750k throughout the season which makes him more valuable.

Kerfoot still has value, I don't understand why people act like he's a cap dump. There's definitely a nice place for him in the middle 6, and he plays the PK. That said, I do think TOR would have to add at least something given contract situations of both players involved. It's incredibly unlikely that he would re-sign. I also think CGY is probably better off offloading a d-man for an even better player. Still, I can see them being trade partners here.

TOP 100 NHL AFFILIATED PROSPECTS
Pretty solid list, I would say UPL isn’t even the Sabres top goalie prospect though, Devon Levi is going to be elite. The ONLY knock against him is his size, but he has the tools/mentality to be one of the best in the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Most of that TOR trade just pays for dumping Mrazek. But I think people will probably wait on Kubalik and Strome to hit free agency if they aren't qualified. Which is a shame because, qualified or not, I think there is significant interest in both of them and an opportunity for CHI to get more assets in trade if they wanted to go that route.</div></div>
Niemela will not be included in dumping mrazek and I wouldn't give him up for kubalik so leafs definitely do not do this

Yeah but I think Yzerman likes that old grizzled vet on the backend. Muzzin is much better than Leddy and Yzerman traded for him this past off season.

Adding another Swedish Star
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanucksPain</b></div><div>Vancouver adds?
It’s simple Miller > Nylander Toronto adds</div></div>
Miller is a upcoming FA. Nylander has another year. Term costs more. Miller can be obtained for other assets beyond Nylander. It makes no sense to make that trade. Why would the Leafs move Nylander for 1 season of Miller and then need to fill a massive hole upfront after the season? Why not send Kerfoot, Robertson, a 1st and whatever else it would take to get Miller at 50%?

That miller trade is comedically bad for the leafs. There's no way even the biggest canucks homer thinks that's realistic

Allen has barely better stats this year than Mrazek. Throwing a 1st away for an equally mediocre player is really dumb

I am not sure why Toronto would want Chara. He would be worse than all of their Dmen right now at this point in his career. Plus with the leafs lack of draft picks giving one up for someone who is barely moves the needle is not worth it

Two birds with one stone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>like i said, they should be looking for guys that create depth, not who are depth. If you cant find those guys then you shouldnt spend assets on low range guys who dont push the needle at all.
Every single year the leafs spend assets on 'depth' like schenn or motte and every year it hasnt worked. Like how many more times do you and others need to see that spending picks and prospects on low end guys does nothing?</div></div>
Well there is a thing called a salary cap which Toronto has been hard up against for years adding anything more than depth guys require moving out core parts of the roster which I’m not sure any leafs fan should think as a good idea so adding depth guys is the only and best option they have it really does come down to being that simple.
