I mean, Shango is an established young player and Holtz is better than a "good prospect".
Not that I buy into that report all that much.

Leafs with Timo Meier extended assuming we trade for him this year
You'd lose Bunting for sure.
Also doubtful anybody would take Murray. He's obviously playing well, but he's still a huge injury concern and teams aren't going to do a team a favour if they NEED to move a guy.

Devils probably add, but there's too many "if"s to really evaluate it.
If DeBrincat is available, he might be like NJ's 3rd or 4th option if nothing else pans out.
Depends on what DeBrincat is willing to sign for
Depends on what Severson is willing to sign forr

I mean, you either trust Pierre LeBrun or you trust Hughes.
I don't doubt LeBrun, I would just wager there was a lot more to the trade than Anderson for a 1st straight up. Or again, it's either that or Hughes should be getting some heat right now for turning that down.

If I were a Habs fan, I'd be livid if Hughes turned down a 1st to get that contract off the books. I call bullsh*t, or the team sending the first was asking for significant retention.

Prospect rankings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I believe Gritsyuk said earlier this season that he talks to Devils regularly and would like to sign after this year. Also said he was willing to play in AHL. There was an interview conducted in Russian that was bouncing around.</div></div>
"“Little bit different there,” MacKinnon said. “Was rookie of the year last year in the KHL, smaller, skilled player. The thinking right now is that it can really benefit him, as a scoring forward, to continue to mature over there. Maybe spend another year or two. And we’ve seen that with guys like Kirill Kaprizov and Andrei Kuzmenkov. For that type of player, sometimes it’s better for them to mature, then step right into your NHL roster. Probably not coming over right away.”"
From Dan MacKinnon.

Top 20 Potential Trade Bait List Jan 28th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DevilsFanZack13</b></div><div>You think NJ is getting Tarasenko?</div></div>
It doesn't seem out of the question to me.
Fitz has kicked tires on VT before, he's looking to add a top-6 winger and I'm sure he'd like to add that experience like he did with Palat.
I would assume Meier is his top choice, but if he likes the value on getting VT (and he comes with an extension of course), then I think he'd be interested.

Prospect rankings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Elias26</b></div><div>good stuff
When it comes to Holtz I think his skating has become adequate, besides his great shot he also has underrated playmaking ability but
he just looks absolutely lost when he is in his own zone and cant seem to win a boardbattle in the offensive zone.
Thats why I would not agree on him having good hockey IQ, because thats what seems to me is what is keeping him out of the lineup..</div></div>
Holtz just looks really uncomfortable in Ruff's system. When Ruff talks about his "speed", I think he's more referring to him slowing down play with his slow decision making and such, rather than his literal foot speed. He seems about as fast as guys like Haula and Tatar who Ruff loves, but they play well in his system.
As for the prospect rankings, I'd put Clarke in B and move Gritsyuk down to B. Gritsyuk may be one of the better forwards in the pool, but him likely re-signing in the KHL for another season or two probably makes him a bit of a long-shot to play NHL games.
Casey is a real boom-or-bust for me. 5'9" defencemen that plays like a Rover is a fun player to watch and was definitely worth the pick at #46, but it's going to be a hard game to make work in the NHL. Also, that game he played as the 1C was against a bunch of highschoolers in an exhibition game, not really anything relevant.

Filmon.
I've watched a dozen or so SC Broncos games since he impressed in camp and I love him game.
Admittedly I'm nowhere near as familiar with Hauser. Obviously neither should be untouchable in a Meier trade, but It'll definitely hurt to see Filmon go if he does.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>I don’t think you can give Meier more than you gave Hughes</div></div>
I can't imagine Meier would care much about what Hughes is making... Hughes being underpaid doesn't mean that Meier should be as well.
Bratt signing is probably a bit light. There would need to be compromises made next season if Fitz were to trade for Meier. Possibly a Vitek+Schmid/Daws tandem next season or a very inexperienced defence.

And Leafs fans are obviously overreacting to Rielly's recent poor play, he's still a valuable piece. But if the Leafs NEED to move him like they would in this situation, teams will not very friendly about it... Plus his whole NMC thing.

I assume Arizona would do this. Just look at all the picks they've got, they'll get a couple decent hits in the next few years. But no decent hit will compare to a potential generational talent.

Playoffs 2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>poeticentropy</b></div><div>That would align exactly with SJ's M.O. over the years. Hard to say how much Grier will differ from Wilson.
They need stars on the team to sell tickets unlike other markets, so while we want a full firesale rebuild it probably will not happen. I personally want 23' 1st + Holtz + NHL player/sweetener for Meier. Others want more or less but it comes down to what prospects we like. I still think he resigns in SJ though, like Hertl did</div></div>
Unlike other markets like Arizona and Anaheim?... They've both broke as **** and still know that they need to rebuild. Ottawa did as well with the cheapest owner in the NHL. There are ways to save money during a rebuild.
If Grier does the same things that Wilson did, then it's the owners who are the problem. I don't think Meier being the type of guy that Grier likes should have any significance at all.

Sorry i entangled us. Just wanted to add if Severson third line D id be amazed he gets 5x5 contract especially with Nemec on way
If Chychrun was right d he’d have new home already</div></div>
Graves would also be a 3rd line D before long too though is my point. If Graves is looking for something like 4x5 and Severson is willing to take 5x5, then I'd happily pick Severson over Graves. Moves can be made later if the Dmen in the pipeline develop well.
The Smith-Severson pairing still have some of the best underlying numbers in the league and it certainly isn't Smith carrying that pair. I don't think NJ needs to bring him back, but if he's willing to sign a sweetheart deal, I'm for it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Finn2016</b></div><div>He’s entitled. His play down for contract year and although older Ian Cole far better player and Mayfield also better investment judging by this season. Dante Fabbro and Gudas too
And with cap crunches everywhere in NHL all teams will be very carefully picking.
Jersey doesn’t want him?</div></div>
He's in a lesser role this season, as Marino has bolstered the right-side.
Devils probably need to bring one of Graves or Severson back unless a trade is made. Graves seemed like the smarter choice at the beginning of the season because he'd be looking for less. But if Severson is actually willing to take 5x5, then I'd imagine Fitz seriously considers bring him back.
There's a lot more teams than Buffalo looking for a top 4 RHD.
