Edvinsson and Veleno spend time in GR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AZWings</b></div><div>That's exactly what Stevie said yesterday. He needs to play meaningful minutes and special teams minutes to make the club. If not, he's GR bound.
Here's hoping he makes that decision very difficult for the team.</div></div>
apparently, Copp will miss preseaon and maybe a week or 2 of main season recovering from abdominal surgery. This will probably be Veleno's biggest chance to show he should stay with the big club.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. Also Walman and Pysyk will be on IR for a while so Oesterle or Hagg will start as LD in the bottom pair and Lindstrom will play on the right. That is unless some prospect can wow during training camp and steal a spot, but based on prospect tournament I don't think that will happen for a D, at least not to start the season. If any rookie makes the team, it will likely be Berggren or Soderblom. I personally would love to see a big boy line of Rasmussen-Sundqvist-Soderblom.

Just finished watching leafs game as well. Edvinsson looked good in the tournament, but not amazing. He made his share of mistakes, getting caught up on rushes, bad breakout passes, giveaways while quarterbacking the pp. He also made some really phenomenal plays. But ultimately I don't think there is enough consistency in his game to be NHL ready.
Also, IMO Soderblom was the best player for the wings. Dude has silky smooth hands and is good all over the ice. I'd be surprised if we don't see him in training camp fighting for a roster spot.

My take Opening Night
In addition to the Perron - Zadina comments above, I also wouldn't be surprised if Erne starts on the wing with Ras centering the line and Veleno playing in GR. Depends how well his training camp goes, but with the depth they have now, they can give him more time in the AHL to develop his offensive game rather than give him low minutes on the 4th line.
Also for special teams, Copp will 100% be on the pk. He is one of the best pk'ers in the league. I also wouldn't be surprised if Bertuzzi and/or Suter play on the PK instead of Larkin/Sun/Veleno. Also, there is a good chance Perron is PP1, but not sure who gets knocked down to PP2.

I predict that Suter is traded once Fabbri gets healthy
I don't know what they are going to do. They already have something like 14 forwards that are nhl'ers and probably another 2-3 prospects that are nhl ready. They say they are gonna let em all compete for spots, but they said that a lot in the Blashill/Holland era and then would always with the same old low production veterans. Something will have to give, but I think they will use the time that Fabbri is out to decide which players to keep going forward. There is also no guarantee that Fabbri isn't the one being traded, if they think he won't be the same after returning. My biggest hope is that guys like Zadina and Veleno break out under the new system, so they don't get traded away for peanuts.

Can they make the playoffs - Its a solid roster
honestly think East will be pretty competitive this year. A lot more teams will be in the running come March. If wings get off to a good start like last year but can carry it through to the end, I think they got a decent chance.

That Arizona trade is pretty insulting. Maybe start by swapping Muzzin for Sandin and then 2024 1st for the 2023 and the 2025 3rd for a 2nd. Arizona probably still says no.

Seider is Detroit's #1D for the next 10 years and will be in the Norris conversation regularly during that time. I get canucks fans highly value Pettersson but a 20 year old #1D who puts up points, skates exceptionally, defends exceptionally and just outright smashes people is more valuable than a PPG center who couldn't knock somebody off the puck to save his life like Pettersson. Detroit will find their 2nd Center by other means. Seider is the most untouchable Red Wing and it's not even close.</div></div>
Plus Pettersson ain't quite a ppg center.

If vegas gets desperate
I was thinking about Vegas-Wings trades earlier for goalies. If Vegas is so desperate, Wings could get a King's ransom and not have to give up too much. I was thinking more along the lines of Ned and Erne for Brossoit, Stephenson and maybe some pick. Gives wings another Center who can play top 6.

Who I think leads every team in points
some pretty bold predictions.I doubt Cozens, Erickson Ek, Beauvillier, and Eberle are even top 3 on their teams. I would also still take Larkin for the wings. Have a feeling he is really gonna take off this year with all the extra support. Vrana is just a really good goal scorer, but he doesn't drive offense the same way as Larkin.

August Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Well he gets more than a 7th lol.
Given the work here, try this on for size:
Kerfoot to Calgary for Tanev ($1 million retained) by the Flames, funneled through Ottawa who retains 50% of the remainder.
Flames get Kerfoot, on an expiring deal (same cost as Tanev for the year), which gives them not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 lines that can put the puck in the net. Scorr8ng by committee will be the Flames M.O. this season, and a guy like Kerfoot fits Sutter's system beautifully. I shall throw in a 4th rounder for nominal retention.
The Weegar acquisition makes this more than possible.
Ottawa gets Holl and Abruzzese for retention. Sens need a top 4RD - Holl can do that. Abruzzese (we are talking 2 years of retention here folks), gives the Sens a legit bottom 6 call up for this season, and a player that just might compete for a spot.
Leafs get Tanev at $1.75 million for two years, which fills a top 4 pairing roll beyind Holl, but adds a grit factor that frankly, Brodie, Holl or Liligren don't have.
There is my outside the box thinking.</div></div>
Tanev/Weegar have more value than Kerfoot. While Kerfoot is worth a lot more than a 7th, he aint worth one of those guys unless leafs tack on some picks/prospects to balance it out.

Management Thinks We Can Contend So Go Big
For wings, I think Bert will be with the team until at least the trade deadline. If he doesn't extend by then, I can see him being moved, but the return will probably depend on their place in the standings. If they are a playoff contender I would see them looking for a roster player back that can contribute. Otherwise, I think this would make a pretty good offer.

TDL 2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Even if we make the playoffs I doubt we are serious buyers. Also if we are in the playoffs it means exceptional play from players like Zadina, Bertuzzi, Lindstrom and Kubalik and you just pushed them down the line up big time. Trades aren't really good for Detroit right now.</div></div>
maybe, but their lineup is bloated right now and they got a lot of prospects that aren't going to get much play time. I think this is going to be a big year in deciding who will be the core group going forward. Probably by the TDL, we will have a good idea if guys like Suter, Kubalik, Zadina, Veleno, and Fabbri will be key contributers under Lalonde's new system. If not, Huberdeau is a certified star who has been over a ppg in each of the last 4 seasons. Probably better to have at least 1 guy like that rather than 2-3 guys putting up 20-40 pts.
As for Bert, his fate is gonna depend on whether he has an extension in place by the TDL. Otherwise, he might be one of the pieces going back in a trade like this.

Wings' roster is already a bit bloated now. I think it would be good to see how the new team handles and look into make more moves at TDL or next year offseason. Only other moves I think might be done is some kind of trade to bring a star player in, while moving others out. But would still prefer just to see how this team is before moving any players who didn't perform well under Blashill.
