Anderson (prior to this year) was a safe bet for around 20 goals, something Drouin has accomplish once (on a stacked Tampa team no less). If Drouin was such a great PP quarterback, he certainly hasn't shown it with the Habs, maybe that skill is overrated.
As for Chiarot, I don't know what games you were watching, but he often looked more lost than anyone else in the defensive end most nights. Calling him our best LHD by far is quite a stretch.</div></div>

Chiarot has been forced into a role that he was never given before and did quite well. He's not the ideal #1LD but still a decent second pairing option that can play first pair every now and then. He was definitely our best LD last year & a good locker room presence.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldmanWebber</b></div><div>You are in Cap Hell, and almost your entire team has NTC's. Every GM in the league knows this and nobody in this flat cap era is going to be willing to take on 30 year old high cap hit guys. I feel this is a fair offer and would be something that Tampa would look at especially with Lehkonen heading back. So I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.</div></div>
Even with 30 general manager knowing full well that Tampa's in trouble, their fanbase still think they can create something out of thin air and actually receive full value back in trades.

All of these move could work the only one I am not crazy about is the Tampa one not cause of value but more because we lose both Lehky and cap space

Columbus will get better offers then that for Anderson. We also have no reason to trade him right now at his lowest value.
Also doubtful that he takes a 3 year contract. You’d be lucky to get 2 from him.

Flat cap no CBO -- trade with MTL
The way I see it, it may still be below value simply taking the Marleau trade as comparison with a few others in the past as well like the Bickell trade and the Datsyuk trade notably. Ericksson's got two more years as opposed to the one for Marleau and the Habs are sending back Mete which is a decent young player in his own right. I feel if Mete is going to be going back, Hab's would need something else added here to bridge the gap.
Just from a market standpoint, that Marleau trade was when the market was good, getting better every year and without exterior factors being in play. As it stands right now, the cap is stagnant, will be staying stagnant for a while and a ton of teams have lost money. The amount of teams that need to cap dump has risen this year compared to previous years which only adds to the market value for dumping contracts.
I think not only will there be less teams willing to take on massive cap dumps but the amount of teams that will need/want to dump cap has risen. If we could associate a value to X dollar/cap being dumped, what ever that is, its higher than in past years. Its gonna be real tough to move salary/cap this year and maybe next so its really gonna hurt the teams that have to do it.
In all honesty, I think Van will have to resort to simply not resigning guys like Markstrom or any free agents like Demelo, coupled with a strategically placed buyout of Ferland. IMO this will hurt less than all the cap dumping they'd do to make space for EP and Hughes.

Not near enough for Anderson. The minimum would be Weal and a 2nd. More isn’t always better.

other side of johnsson trade
I think the biggest problem with MTL is that they don't have any top offensive players (although Tatar has been amazing in MTL, I wouldn't put him in that category). And Johnsson just seems like more of the same - another middle 6 winger. He'd be a fine addition, but I think Lehkonen can be that 3LW without losing the picks. Not sure Johnsson is too much of an upgrade there.

Do these trades work
Might be a hot take but I'd rather have the next 8 years of Dunn versus the next 8 years of Pietrangelo, all things considered - younger, cheaper, more balanced with Parayko-Faulk already on the right side. Now if there is a way to sign Petro without losing Dunn, I'm all for it. (And there is, but it's more complicated than what can typically happen in an offseason, especially one with no cap increase.)

Tough to decide as a Blues fan. I think the value’s there but I’m not keen on giving up Dunn. I think we may be able to get rid of Steen for whatever we get back in an Allen deal. We’re also probably moving Bozak and he’ll bring back assets we can use to get a team to take on Steen if we choose. I’d say no to the deal because of these factors, but a very fair offer.

Gallager
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsDynasty </b></div><div>they will but they could resign him after he plays 1 year in TO</div></div>
I mean theoretically they could, but the priority for MTL is keeping Gallagher around.
It would cost TOR a lot to acquire him and I doubt Dubas would be willing to give up much if he wasn't confidant he could extend him. In any case the price would be likely be the same with or without an extension in place since Bergevin would want his bases covered in the event that Gallagher didn't come back.
Also it would be hard for Dubas to justify the price paid to acquire a player in an area of great strength for the team instead of spending that capital improving areas of greater need.
All in all I struggle to see a Gallagher deal that satisfies both sides when what MTL want most is to keep him and TOR is already very strong at RW.

I think if we're trading for a top 4 LHD we should use some of our LD prospects (Struble or Norlinder) to get a better player than Skjei.

Finally another person that gets it. I fight with my few Hab fans about the statement "we have way to many LD prospects".
I like the trades. all teams involved wins. Tbay gets cap relief while adding a top 9 winger, Carolina gets one of the most underrated goal scorers in the NHL. if you want a consistent 20 goals every season from a player...Tatar is that.

I would 100% take a reasonable trade on him. I argued with a Hab fan about him not taking Domi straight up for Hanfin....are you serious.....every team hates have 23 year old Dman that are signed long term that are already producing 30 points a season.

haha right!! I'm a habs fan and i lose it on them when they list every LD Dman we have saying we dont need them.......have you not followed the NHL in 20 years. no young player is a guarantee. i take this deal 100%. not adding young LH D because you assume you have tons is a bad idea. I would rather have 5 in the system as I know maybe only 1 is an impact player. if you get 2 out of 5....you should be skipping for joy.
rule of thumb....always have backup talent to backup that talent to ensure you have alteast something coming....not hoping a guy makes it. ensure that you are taken care of.

yeah well a lot of habs fans seem to think all our LD prospects are a sure thing lol the only one that I personally think will be a sure NHLer is Ramonov we have promising ones for sure but not enough to turn our nose to possibly trading for Skejei, If habs can move Chiarot (cap reasons we have a lot of players to sign next year) I don't see why anyone wouldn't want Skjei.
I much rather have him on LD over chiarot!
Skjei Weber
Ramonov Petry
Mete Juulsen
that would be a nice solid D.

The Domi trade is intriguing. I think it all comes down to Montreal's plan with the UFA line next year (Tatar, Danault, Gallagher). All 3 deserve huge raises, so it might come down to 2 of them vs Domi.

Domi for Ehlers is fine. That way Winnipeg gets the C they need, and the habs get someone who is effective on the wing. But Petry isn’t available. Without Petry our team would fall apart, and we currently have no RHD that could take his spot, even in the prime of their careers. We’re not interested in trading him at all.

Montreal offer
MTL says no, Domi and a lower pick would be enough for Ehlers...he isn't a ton better than Domi over his career so far, Ehlers has 6 more GP with 6pts more than Domi so its really not that much a diff in player Ehlers just has more goals than Domi but Domi has more assists so they're pretty even players.
Perreault is a cap dump and Stanley isn't a proven NHLER yet so those 2 for a top 4 RD in Petry is a hard no.
