Leafs Blockbuster
This trade looks much much better from the Canucks side of things lol, but they are a team with an abundance of wingers who will need to get paid, so giving up a known entity in Garland who is locked probably isn't the move even if they wanted Nylander, and Garland probably isn't what the Leafs need anyways if they are looking to resign Miller+Bunting.
Giving up Niemela+Sandin would would be a mistake for the Leafs future on defense, but let's just remove Garland and Niemela from the trade. Add Hoglander as the cost controlled option, and then balance the trade from their, Vancouver retaining on Miller makes no sense as it doesn't help Toronto in this trade.
Miller+Hoglander+Rathbone/Poolman for Nylander+Sandin+a pick is probably a deal that makes more sense. Then can add Kerfoot and Dickinson to make the cap work. Maybe Rathbone can be traded by Van for Lundkvist, all I know is you can't just LTIR Poolman.
Edit: Looking at the cap, there's going to be like 3.35-4.35m going to Vancouver if it's just Miller+Hoglander+Poolman for Nylander+Kerfoot+Sandin, so there isn't really a deal to be made here unless Myers is moved in a separate deal for picks.

Fletcher fired Flyers blow it up at deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>I like Gardiner and hoped he'd hit it in Toronto. But it never quite worked out. Good - sometimes. IMO (uninformed as it is compared to real scouts, pros) - lack of consistency kills. 3 hat tricks a year is great, but not if you score 12-15 goals a season (3-6 goals over 79 games). Gardiner is still a lot of 'what if'. If this season is another What If - he is a cap dump</div></div>
Major disagree. Gardiner has been the hallmark of consistency throughout his career. Base totals won't often show it, but he's playing on a team that offensively restricts itself and he played most of his career on an awful Leafs squad. Analytically, he's always a positive asset to have, he creates FAR more than he concedes, and he is above replacement level defensively. Not by much, granted. But he's not a cap dump. 4 Mil is about right for him. His vision and passing have always been up there with the best in the NHL. His offensive prowess and ability to quarterback a powerplay are undeniable. He looks a little gormless sometimes, but that's very rare. Plus, I'd much rather he f*ck up in the 82 game part of the year, and not the best of 7s in May and June.

If the reported ask is a good prospect and two 1sts, there's no way Ottawa is giving Jarventie AND Thomson imo. If they add a 2nd prospect it'll almost certainly be Merilainen given Arizona's horrible G depth, and if the other prospect is Thomson I don't think they should be giving up a 2nd prospect at all.

And there are subtle indications that Kerfoot has played on better teams over the past 5 seasons than Henrique.</div></div>
While I'm not here to argue their full value compared to each other in regards to scoring they're almost identical at even strength.
Kerfoot has 144 pts in 360 games at evens while Henrique has 306 pts in 768.
That works out to a 33 point pace for both of them over 82 GP at evens.

I’m not disagreeing with the general value. Columbus just doesn’t have a need for him. They need a top pairing dman. They have plenty of bottom pair guys that they like already, and could even be looking to move out one of their own.

Fiala to Devils
Using the pick value chart
#2 overall = 12.3
#25 overall = 3.4
Net = 8.9
That put Fiala’s pick value as equal to #4 overall pick.
Minnesota would still need to add, especially if it’s just the players’ rights being offered

If Toronto will wait for him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>Only red flag for me is the Lucic factor. Wilson is 28, has played nearly 750 games in the NHL and had several stints on the injured list. He plays very physical and that takes a toll and could mean a steep drop off in play in the next few years. Lucic signed at 28 with Edmonton - he had one 20+ goal season and then a drop off in play</div></div>
Wilson's obviously got the ACL right now, but before that he's very rarely been injured. The only other significant injury he had was hurting his ankle skateboarding in the summer of 2014, and besides that it's just been a game or two here and there. I think he might actually have missed more games due to suspension than injury since he came into the league.
One thing he has in his favor compared to most power forwards is he's a fantastic skater, and I think usually with these PFs that fall off rapidly in their 30s it's cause they weren't great skaters to begin with so they can't afford to lose a step. Wilson could lose a step and still be an average skater. I think he's gonna age better than guys like Lucic and Penner, or at least I thought that prior to the ACL reconstruction. That definitely muddles things.

Nylander Trades I Would Accept
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>A lot different values in these trades. I think you were aiming for equal value but that's not what the Leafs need. They don't need 2nd and 3rd round picks. They need 30+ goal scorers who compliment others on the team or two players who would combine for equal value.
If they lose others like Kase, Mikheyev, Engvall they will need to make up those goals as well.
Leafs need a bigger and better D, maybe more grit up front. But players that fit the bill aren't available (Jeannot, Wilson, Perry, etc)</div></div>
Some of the trades are basically straight hockey trades (like St Louis) and they wouldn’t happen. The problem with most Nylander trades is that they go for futures but futures don’t help us win now

My Realistic Off-Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>I suspect Campbell was battling an injury or issue - which the Leafs management would know about. Campbell is a good goalie in a nearly empty FA year. Not signing him means a trade to a riskier option. Campbell isn't Vasilevskiy but he delivered when it mattered in the playoffs. Leafs problem has been people who don't deliver then. Campbell should get re-upped unless he gets a $6M+ deal elsewhere. Price will dictate if he leaves. Then the Leafs need to consider bigger moves. I would hope by now Dubas has learned that you don't wing it with your #1 goalie. Championship teams and Cup contenders all have reliable elite goaltending - Price, Vasilevskiy, Fleury, Holtby, Bishop - all were Vezina candidates in those years.</div></div>
Honestly, I let him walk if its over 5m. Tandem goalies are what they need, and their top 5 guys salary doesn't let them spend that kind of money on goalies. It sucks to stay, but since the cap hasn't gone up like expected due to covid, they just dont have the money.
That being said, if they can find more guys like Bunting and Kampf on cheap deals to round out their roster, maybe they can get Campbell to a higher number done. I just dont see it right now

Yeah, regardless of what's going the other way, Driedger is a HUGE risk. Seattle bought on a super small sample size of success on a strong defensive team. It's the Carter Hutton scenario-Guy plays great for a relatively short period of time and gets absolutely exposed when he gets a full time gig. It's like Husso-Some team is going to pay him extremely well, with some term on it, based on a career year (best statistical year of his entire pro career, NHL, AHL, etc.) as a 27 year old. That's a massive risk.

Feel like this Nylander deal isn't that far off.</div></div>
Yeah I get that, but Toff was under contract for 3 seasons at an extremely affordable cap hit and can play in all situations on the ice. Reinhart was putting up numbers just below Nylander while playing on **** Buffalo teams for years. Nylander’s played on the offensive powerhouse leafs for these past few years and has shown to be inconsistent and one-dimensional. Not to mention he’s making nearly $7 mil. He’s not a foundational piece that a team builds around, he’s a complementary piece, so any team that’d be acquiring him would already be a contender, but would also need some cap space. The leafs also aren’t necessarily dealing from a position of strength, as everybody and their dog knows they don’t have enough cap space to resign their goalie and bring back their depth pieces. I could see a team like LA, who has a history of trades with the leafs, maybe acquiring him to give their scoring a boost, but I really don’t see the return being much more than what Buchnevich got last year. LA’s not guarantee, so I’d imagine the GM would be very weary about trading first rounders yet.

Brown for Beau is interesting but only because Brown is a rental at this point. Trading from a place of relative weakness (RW) to add to a strength (LW) doesnt make a ton of sense. In a vacuum I'd much rather have Brown. Also not interested at all in Bailey, 33 at the start of next season with two years left at 5m. Could very well see Formenton and/or Joseph passing him and as we already know, 5m sitting in your bottom 6 isnt ideal. White's buyout is ridiculously cheap, would much rather see them take advantage of that and use the money elsewhere.

Buyouts - worth it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>I'm always curious when I see Ottawa buyouts (ie. Zaitsev or Murray). You've got lots of cap space, why not just eat the contracts for a couple of years? They'll expire when you're starting to pay a lot of the younger guys. Don't handcuff yourself down the road, when you *should* have room to pay them for a couple of years...or, retain 50% and you might be able to move one or the other. Worst case, fire them in the pressbox or down to the AHL, and live with it.
White? That's a little trickier...</div></div>
- a White buyout is worth it because it would be cheap, like minimum league salary cheap. With Stutzle-Norris-Pinto-Kastelic (and prospects), there's no more spot at center for White. On RW, there's a spot right now if one of Brown/Joseph play left wing but competition is going to be very heavy. There's value in keeping White as he's a good 3rd liner and can slot about anywhere in the forward group (injuries happen) but that's money that could be saved easily
- a Murray buyout might not even be necessary, there's a good chance he just ends up on LTIR, like many other players before. When you deal with injuries (particularly concussions), there's a chance you're not going to be cleared for NHL contact again.
- a Zaitsev buyout could be avoided too. Just keep him in the AHL as an injury policy, or as the 6th/7th/8th guy. If you don't overplay him in a role he can't handle, he's not that bad of a player.
