Is this remon's secondary account or did you just steal his catch phrase ,"He's a keeper"?
I'm also a Canucks fan and a Kuzmenko fan. That said he isn't fitting Tocchet's system and if this team is in a window (as some believe they are), then I say there is a decent chance they flip him for an asset that can help them win now. Hayes would provide more center depth and options in the top 6, while saving the team 2M a season.
Personally, I would rather keep Kuzmenko until the end of the season to see if he bounces back, however if he is available and if STL were open to this deal, then it's a trade I would strongly consider based on what his current value likely is.

When I referenced Kuzmenko as being younger, the intention was he may be a fit there to resign if STL was a fit (I know they are rebuilding) or a more attractable asset to flip if he bounces back later this season or next. There is still a year left on Kuzmenko's deal, and plenty expect a change of scenery would do him well. Last year he was was great but even in this slump year he is playing at a 21 goal 50 point pace, and playing consistently in the top six in STL he could potentially significantly increase those numbers. He's a very good candidate for at least a partial bounce back, and even a partial bounce back puts in the 30 goal 60-65 point range.

Fair comment, and what I expected.
Wasn't sure if Kuzmenko's play last year along with his younger age may sway them, but I figured it would probably be declined.

Dvorak or Gallagher + pick(s) for Kuzmenko would make sense. A player that has no future in Montreal or a player that Montreal would like to move on from even if it means getting nothing substantial.
That probably doesn't make sense from Vancouver's perspective so I don't see a deal to be made around Kuzmenko.</div></div>
Well of course that makes sense for MON. Both Dvorak and Gallagher have fairly significant negative value and term (especially Gallagher), who wouldn't trade one of them for a positive valued player... I don't think MON would want to include the picks required to get that trade done.
I agree with the second part of your post, probably not a fit for either team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>What do you mean, "make up for two years?"
Garland has always been a great player. The problem Canucks fan have with him is his cap hit, because we live in a cap world and fans get mad if a player might only be worth 90% of their cap hit. They see almost 5M playing in the middle-six and lose their minds because they think Garland's not good enough to be played in the top six. When you have genuine forward depth, as the Canucks do, you can spread out your skill and minutes to make your entire team better.
Since 2021, Garland has been 55th among forwards in points at 5v5 over the past two seasons with 78. He's tied with JT Miller for points at 5v5, higher than players like Marchand, Reinhart, Suzuki, Tavares, and Tuch in fewer games played. Garland gets minimal PP time since the top unit is usually out there for 1:40 each powerplay. I'm sure if the Canucks had injuries to Pettersson, Miller, or Boeser, Garland would be one of the first choices to come in to join PP1. You want a guy who is able to contribute goals while not on the powerplay. There are only 54 players you could upgrade to and of that list only 2 (Stephenson, Duchene) by my count have a lesser cap hit than Garland does.
Source: https://naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20222023&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=std&rate=n&team=ALL&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL
Garland's also been phenomenal defensively, a CF% of 52 for his past two seasons in Vancouver, on two bottom-10 teams that's remarkable. Among forwards over those two seasons: 51st in Takeaways/60 (min. 100 mins played), 93rd in CF% REL, a PDO of 101.6 when the rest of VAN was averaging about 96.8.
It blows me away that Canuck fans still want to trade him after the blueline problems have been resolved because they wrongly believe he's overpaid. Garland is a big reason the 3rd line is gelling so well, he's the reason teams are now having to split their best defensemen up across three lines instead of two. Garland's an absolute beast, and I'm tired of the disrespect he gets on these forums. Any team in this league would kill to have a player like him.</div></div>
It’s not just Canucks fans that have a problem with his cap hit, it’s all 32 NHL teams, no one was willing to take him for free, or partially retained. Vancouver hasn’t had that much top 6 depth on the wings for the past two seasons and Garland has not played well enough to be able to secure a spot in the top 6, and he’s had opportunities. Kuzmenko (and Miller when playing wing) was the only legit top 6 winger last year, Boeser and Mikheyev have been been playing legit top 6 this year. The team has literally been trying all of their wingers on the top two lines to try and find someone to work on both the 1st and 2nd lines because they don't have enough legit top 6 wingers.
None of the rest of what you posted matters. Teams don't want him at his cap hit, neither did/does Vancouver, at his current cap hit. Him playing 4.95M+ winger hockey for "one month" doesn't significantly change his value when compared to the long term, i.e. the last two years he's been with the team.
A player can be "good" and still be undesirable, everything is about cap hit in the modern cap-era of the NHL.

It's because most people understand that one month doesn't make up for 2 years. Most players ride hot streaks/play above their norm for stretches from time to time.
What I find funny is how many fans post that X player has good value "now" when they play good for a short stretch, the player usually always regresses back to their norm shortly after.
When Garland has played 82 games at his current level of play I'll be more convinced he's worth most/all of his current contract.

Although I am not a fan of paying to dump Garland, I make that move to improve the 3C position. If this team wants to continue to improve going forward they need additional cap space to address areas that need improvement . The 3C position is an important one and one that currently needs improvement, especially if either EP or JTM were to get injured.

I have seen quite a few Nylander signings lately by Canucks AGM's. Canuck fans have been talking about their depth on the wings for months, why add another piece to the wings (especially such an expensive piece) when there are much bigger holes on D, the bottom 6, and backup goaltending? I get he's a great player but this seems like poor roster/cap management to me.

I don't think the value is far off here. Ratty doesn't has as much value as some Canuck fans would have you think, nor does Peeke have as much value as many Jacket fans think he does. That said, I don't think this trade really makes the Canucks any more likely to "compete" as proposed in the AGM title.
At this point I would personally rather keep Raty and the pick and wait for Bear who is supposed to be ready next month. I would take Bear over Peeke in a one for one, and if Bear doesn't cost anything to acquire then that's a much better deal in my opinion.

What are you talking about? Hronek is probably a decent comparable to Andersson with Andersson holding a bit more overall value. Hronek went for a 1st and a 2nd. Here your getting a 1st, 2nd, a very solid prospect (15OA two years ago), a young roster player who likely ends up as a middle six winger, an expiring veteran that can likely be flipped if you include some retention and Woo (holds no real value). I'm noting saying Calgary takes it but this is more than a fair offer.

Kuzmenko for
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>Garland does have value, he's been one of the best two-way forwards on the Canucks this season. His offense has been limited due to the logjam of winger depth (He's a 20-goal, 50-point winger playing bottom six minutes because of that). In any case, Vancouver is playing well right now and can afford to wait until there is a team willing to pay for Garland, the Canucks have said they're not paying to move out players.
Absolutely, which is what the Canucks are trying to do with Garland and Beauvillier, solid top-sixers capable of 20g/40-50 points. Even if it's just for picks/prospects, the Canucks have Ethan Bear waiting in the wings to re-sign as soon as they clear the cap space. Bear played Top-4 minutes for Vancouver last year and didn't look out of place, Vancouver doesn't have to give up futures for a Top-4 rental, although that would certainly improve our depth even more.
Kuzmenko doesn't have Zub's injury history, which was my point in calling out Zub's seasons. Zub has missed 43 games in the previous three seasons and has missed 8 games already this year, while Kuzmenko has missed 6 games over the same time if we include the KHL. Winger is the easiest position, but it's clear that few skaters play left wing as well as Kuzmenko does. He is Top-15 in points by LW since coming into the league. I'm in full agreement with the Sens' fans "No."
If Hughes can play with a pilon, why would the Canucks need to move out a Top-15 player and key locker room guy for a Top-4 defenseman? Again, they could move out a less impactful player for futures and sign a Top-4 defenseman for free. Bear is a Top-4 defenseman, he has better advanced stats than Zub while playing on worse teams.
Zub is an option, I'm not denying that. He can be a #4, has a reasonable cap hit, and can play the right side. What I'm pointing out is Kuzmenko is far too steep a price to pay for a player who would be a #4 on the Canucks and who wouldn't be playing beside Hughes. The idea behind moving for another RHD is to find someone who can play Top-4 beside Cole, move up to the top pair in case of injuries, and allow Friedman to be #7, not to find a guy who needs to play alongside Hughes to have their mistakes covered. Zub can be that guy — just not for Kuzmenko.</div></div>
- At this point, one has to be a pretty optimistic Canucks fan to believe Garland has value. The team has been trying to move him for over a year and he's still on the roster, they have tried giving him away without retention, and they have been shopping him with retention and still have haven't been able to find a deal with enough positive value to make it worth while. His offence has only been somewhat limited, he has had plenty of opportunity to prove himself on the top lines (last year Kuzmenko was the only solid top 6 option on the wings) , during his time in Vancouver he hasn't earned that spot.
- Neither Garland or Beauvillier is returning a top 4 defenseman, even if it's a rental. Beauvillier is more likely to have positive value due to his lower cap hit and that he is in the final year of his contract, however he alone doesn't return a decent top four 4, even if it's a rental.
- Kuzmenko is a first line winger, as I have already said I like the player, offering him in a trade is nothing against him. If the team wants to acquire a legitimate top 4 RD with term on a good contract for a winger, it has to be a winger with significant positive value, that means it's probably one of Kuzmenko or Boeser/Mikheyev if they continues having career years.
- Ask the GM, the rumors are they are trying to add a big piece on the blueline. Currently the Canucks have two D that would be top 4 on a contender, I personally like Cole and think he can be alright as a 4 on a decent team but on a contender (like TB last year) he's a very good bottom pair guy.
- If Zub was available he would be an option, never said he was the best option, I said I was looking to post something different than the trades we see proposed multiple times a day. If you want to get something you have to give something, no one is taking "Garland and some picks/prospects" for a legitimate top 4 RD.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>That makes more sense, the way OP was replying made me think he was a Sens fan. Thank you for providing a Senators perspective.
I agree, I don't believe either team is a good trade partner, both have similar problems (log jam of wingers, weaker defensively).
As for Zub, I'm basing his analytics off of his Corsi, his ATOI, and his QoC last season. I know it's been a while since JFresh has done an update on Zub, but his numbers last season were abysmal. Add in his injury history and it doesn't give him a ton of value compared to the other RHD on the market.</div></div>
Thank goodness I didn't come off as a bias Canucks fan!

Add in the fact that at 28 he's only played one full NHL season, he's decidedly not worth Kuzmenko 1 for 1. If the Senators are wanting Top-6 support, I'd maybe move Garland + mid pick/prospect for him. But given Zub's injury history, I think there's better options on the market.
Besides that, Bear played excellently with Hughes last season. It's cheaper for the Canucks to move out cap space to re-sign Bear than to lose Kuzmenko.</div></div>
Garland has zero value, Zero. He isn't bringing back a top 4 RD even if you add "mid pick/prospects". If Garland's being moved the Canucks are paying in either retention or picks/prospects. I would personally rather move a good winger for a defenseman than pay the costs of moving a player like Garland and then all the additional young assets it would take to acquire a top 4 defenseman. This team is decent (although their underlying numbers haven't been great), but they still aren't contenders and are still going to have cap issues going forward, so they need their few good young prospects and future high picks to ensure they have a steady flow of ECL's coming in the future.
You do realize Kuzmenko has only played one NHL season and is also turning 28 in early 2024 right? Look I like Kuzmenko, he had a very high shooting percentage last season that boosted his total but he's a good player and a well liked teammate. That said he plays the easiest position to fill in the NHL and Zub the hardest, that significantly effects value and that is why all the Sen's fans on here are saying "No".
You could put a pilon on the ice and it would look good as Hughes defense partner. Bear is a decent player and one I think the team should bring back, that said he is a #5 on a good blueline, and although I like Bear I certainly wouldn't want him paired with Hughes in the playoffs,
At the end of the day, Zub doesn't have to be the player the team acquires. He was an option that I hadn't seen posted on here yet so I decided I would try something different. Either way if this team chooses to make a big move for a defenseman, I would rather move a winger with value than the multiple young assets it would otherwise cost.

Bear certainly isn't, he's probably a #5 on a good blueline, fringe top 4. Zub is probably a number 3, but is totally capable to playing on the top pair without looking out of place and would be a great compliment to a more offensive minded partner. If the team had the following blueline I think it would put them in a position where they could win a few rounds in the playoffs (still not a contender):
Hughes - Zub
Cole - Hronek
Soucy - Bear
With Hronek getting a large raise in the offseason, adding a cap controlled player like Zub makes the blueline cost more palatable for what's going to continue to be a cap crunched team.
