<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>yeah, sens fans know all about never winning despite being one of the best teams in the league.</div></div>
From 1996-97 to 2007-08, Sens made the playoffs 11 years straight, won 8 playoffs rounds, one ECF and one SCF. There was also the 2004-05 season were they got robbed of having one of the best teams on paper in the whole decade. In their current window, Leafs made the playoffs 6/7 seasons and won 1 round (gotta be thankful that Tampa was exhausted by 3 SCF in a row). Not even sure the current Leafs window will last 4 more seasons. The only way the Leafs could do better (or even match) than the Sens 00's window is by winning the Cup. It is Cup or Bust
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Korpisalo needs a strong defensive structure in front of him to be truly successful. He doesn’t have that in Ottawa. I’d be surprised if he finished with a .905 s%</div></div>
I agree but it's the same thing for most goalie who aren't Dominik Hasek or Roberto Luongo
That said, Korpisalo has been a lot better last season than in the past because his hip surgery was in March 2022. Surgeries can change a lot of things.
I also don't trust any defensive system coached by DJ smith but management/coaching is about to change in Ottawa (Thank Alfie)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>I’m sorry, but the 6-10 points out, the Sens were never going to get with or whiteout Norris and Talbot… And as for ADB, him and Stuzle are essentially the same play; they went to the same spots so it was bound for only 1, at best, to succeed and the other was doomed to fail… Which caused giveaways</div></div>
Did you say that ADB and Stutzle are essentially the same player? Sorry to say but you're proving that you don't understand hockey much.
So much wrong in such a small post. Talbot was not missed, he was a detriment most of the season. Norris was deeply missed though and they also had lost Formenton for off-ice reasons. Dorion stupidly traded Connor Brown which made the bottom-6 really bad but Formenton and Norris would have made a HUGE difference
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TCMonkey</b></div><div>What a ridiculous statement. Norris had 35 goals in 21-22 and was OTT's first line center. Last season OTT lost a majority of their games by 1 goal (or 1 + an EN). Of course having Norris back would easily have added 4+ wins over their 82 games. As for your Stützle / Debrincat comment ... was that written by an A.I. program that wasn't given access to hockey logic?</div></div>
I have a hunch that the guy thinks Stutzle is still playing LW because he is listed LW on NHL.com and hockeydb.com :tearsofjoy

It gets annoying fast.
I don't know if you have seen this before but this is why I think trading Kubalik is a no brainer :
- Kubalik is UFA after the season. Sens won't have the cap space to re-sign him as they really need to focus on signing a better forward than him or even Tarasenko. He would walk for nothing while we could get an asset for him NOW. Joseph will COST an asset to move now and will most likely restore positive value this season and particularly with the cap going up next season
- Kubalik scored 17 of his 45 pts on the PP last season. There's TEN (10) other guys who require and need PP time before him, and that's not even counting Greig and Brannstrom.
- Over the last 2 seasons, Total Points per 60 minutes at 5v5, Joseph 1.46 and Kubalik 1.37
- Joseph is our best PK forward (history of posting Elite K metrics). He's also one of our fastest skaters and one of our best forwards defensively at ES. Kubalik wouldn't come close to any of that.

It's still a Seth Jones 2.0 trade. I'm not a fan of the Hawks trading assets away at this point in time. I can 100% understand a TOR fan coming on here and being confused by my comment. Nylander is the best player in that trade FOR SURE. It's just not the right direction IMO for the Hawks. Keep the picks. Sign a UFA next year. Trust the process. Don't jump for shiny objects.
And I don't think Nylander signs for $8.8M per.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TCMonkey</b></div><div>Agreed. I just meant adding LOC to our PK while NOT losing Joseph would be great. Especially since Motte and Watson are also gone.
Ottawa was short-handed 296 times last season, 2nd highest in the league. (This is a DJ smith thing IMO. Haven't been among the most penalized teams since Paul Mclean)
Last season Ottawa had its 2nd most successful PK in 8 years at 80.1%.
Leading PK fwds (TOI/SH per game): Motte, Joseph, Kelly, Gambrell, Watson.
From that list only Joseph (and maybe Kelly but I doubt it) will be in the line up.
Our best PK in 8 years was 21-22 at 80.3%
Leading PK fwds that season: C Brown, Nick Paul, Formenton, Joseph, Watson.
If this team continues to take penalties like have under DJ, they'd better make damn sure they have the players they need kill 'em.</div></div>
Agreed, this proposed deal is perfect. Helps our PK, creates enough cap space for Pinto etc
With Tarasenko signing, Kubalik is not that needed anymore. We already have 5 guys who could be over PPG or close, plus Tarasenko, Greig and Pinto. And Joseph might actually surprise offensively this season depending on his role. He just burned a 3v3 league this summer with several NHLers. Scored 25 goals in 7 games. Comtois, Drouin, Perron, Letang, etc were playing

Again I hear you but you could take those words and insert Brady for Matthew without many pundits batting an eye. On top of that I dont think anyone was talking about Matthew that way coming off that D+5 season. He really only made the strides to achieve that level of status the last two years. This year will be telling as to the comparison between the two but there's nothing within either of their first 5 years in the league to definitively give the nod one way or the other.

Matthew may very well turn out to be the better but the total numbers 5 seasons in are actually very similar if you crunch them.

Can’t compare Katchouk‘s contract with Joseph’s, he had zero NHL games when he got it… I mean come on… let’s be at least a bit down to earth
And Joseph’s contract is far from awful… I mean ES defense, ES offense, PK, speed, forecheck… brings some good stuff… wouldn’t have been overpaid at all based on his 2021-22 season

Lowering the team support quality (players like Brannstrom, Kubalik/Joseph) and good futures (1st, 2nd/Thomson) to make that move would be stupid. Wait next summer, let Tarasenko walk (and Kubalik if he’s still there) and invest on the best forward you could get (which should be 6-7 if they kept Joseph and Brannstrom)

I can understand if Konecny returns a bit more than this in a trade, but adding Pinto is ridiculous.
In this trade, Philly is getting a 1st round pick likely between 13-20th overall, a legit #4D in Branny (worth a 2nd), a 20 goal UFA in Kubalik who they can easily get a 2nd for at the deadline, a young nhl ready D in Lassi, and an overpaid bottom 6er in Joseph who has slight negative value.
Saying Ottawa adds a 2nd here is fair, or someone like Boucher (who has ties to Philly). But add Pinto and you still don't think Philly does it? That's bananas.
You could offer me Konecny for 2 more years for Pinto (4 more years of team control) straight up and I probably wouldn't do it.

McLeod is not the best comparable because he's a year older (closer to UFA) and has 2 NHL seasons while Pinto has one.
McLeod got a 2 years extension, so Pinto's would be quite cheaper on a 1 year
They had a similar PPG last season (Pinto got to play with two first liners and had 168 minutes of PP time) while McLeod's possession and defensive metrics were very good. Plus Pinto has no arbitration rights.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>He was on track for 26 points in a down year, and is very good at carrying the puck up the ice and penalty killing.</div></div>
Exactly, don't listen to the noise, Joseph is not a bad player at all. Defensive forwards who excel on the PK are not supposed to produce 50 pts per season (or they'd be paid a lot more than 2.95 AAV)
26 pts pace in a down year, 36 pts pace the year before (30 pts in 69 GP, all at ES or on the PK), he's also a pretty good forechecker
I trust that Dorion can make the right decision and trade Kubalik instead (who is a better scorer but UFA-to-be, really not as good defensively and would need big PP minutes, which we don't have)
This is a good picture of Joseph's game, and his EV production can vary from year to year

$9 million over 3 years sounds like a terrible contract but when you realize that Joseph is at worst a $2 million player and probably a $2.5 million player, its not that bad at all. The Sens would love to keep him if they could stay under the cap.

Think of the players Ottawa traded a first for while trying to exit their rebuild, Duchene, DeBrincat, Chychrun. Now look at what you’re offering Arizona, a pending UFA streaky goal scorer, a cap dump that probably costs at least a 2nd to move, and a smaller puck moving defenseman with good underlying numbers but hasn’t broken out. Come on now, what there says a 1st and a 2nd?

Why trade Kubalik if you’re going to bring a more expensive and worse player in Laughton?
And doubt the Coyotes would go for that. They can afford to spend some picks but would they want to « accelerate » their rebuild like that? Might as well spend these picks on one bigger player
People won’t know but yes Brannstrom and Kubalik with his contract are quite valuable. Joseph for the same reason is not but if you have the cap, he’s still going to improve your bottom-6 and particularly your 1st PK unit
