Quinn + Levi + 2 1st mightttt get it done. It's Brady Tkachuk, gotta remember every team would offer a king's ransom for him. I still think the Sabres have the assets to do it

That backend is disgusting.
This definitely makes them a better team.
What do you do about coaching??</div></div>
I don't think Edmonton would want to part with him either, but this is a contract that they won't be able to offer him. Sabres gotta overpay + add extra term in order to lure FA's here.
We need a steady, veteran Dman to pair with Power. That would be a massive move.
Granato is a great development coach. He can't manage an NHL room tho. We need Berube/Ruff/ been there, done that HC

I'd be surprised if they moved either of these players, but that's a good trade. Sabres hammer "yes"

Weirdly enough though they've been healthy scratching Soucy.

I definitely got trigger happy with Seattle. Boston put out there that they want to shed cap, so I could imagine that public knowledge alone then had at least 5-10 teams calling them and lowered the price to offload him

I agree, especially because of the games in hand. But also, Yzerman is smart and I can see him parting ways with one of the UFAs if they derail a bit. Good team, but he knows what it takes to be cup contenders and Bertuzzi for example could use a change of scenary

Grossly overblown? Yes. My issue comes the 2024-2025 season. Calgary's identity as a core is a bit skewed now, and they have a lot of decisions to make in who they pay/who they let walk. This current roster shuffle they continually do is interesting imo

I mostly agree. Although, it'll be hard to fit their current roster under the cap long term. Highly doubt Weegar would be one to go, but Calgary is in an interesting spot.

I see next year as pushing for a playoff spot, but probably just missing it. Kane will be 34 in November, so give him a 2-year extension here in Buff (3-year if you need to entice him). There's no reason to believe he cant be an impact player for two more years, and I would expect to start to see a decline in that 2nd year of his extension if he decided to stay. By 2023-2024, Sabres should be in playoffs and Kane's leadership and prowess would be needed.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>No thank you</div></div>
The Kane trade is mostly for fun, if not I would sign Olofsson to a 4 x 4.75AAV and wouldn't be signing Marchment because that's Asplund's spot. Manson is Power's vet d-partner and will smack around anyone who tries to bully him, plus can play PK minutes. I think of Koskinen as a Finnish leader for UPL that can be a 1A/1B with him.

I can agree on the significant number of assets, but I think he has every reason to move on from Chicago at this point in his career, and the Sabres are loaded with young talent at both forward and defense. Having a guy who's won multiple cups and grew up in Buffalo is a win-win to try and push now. Plus, I would expect them to give him an extension

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>Sabres are probably worse after this trade tbh. Also, you can't add signing conditions in trades anymore.</div></div>
I appreciate that clarification. I guess it would be " If Sabres make playoffs, pick becomes 2023 1st". I mean, Asplund is an incredible 2-way forward, but Kane is a massive upgrade over Olofsson. Same spot on the PP, and he's still over a point/game on a bottom team. Losing Asplund would hurt PK, but the emergence of Tage on the PK so far has been solid, and I would expect JJ to develop into a PK role.

How to break into playoffs
Love the Kuemper and Manson signings, both term and AAV (might need to spend more on Manson, tho). Love Copp as a player, but don't think bringing him in to block out Asplund is smart. Asplund is developing into one of the best 2-way players in the league, both facilitating offense and shutting down the opposition at 5v5 and PK.

Out of the box Trade Idea Question to TBL fans
Yes, the Sabres can retain 1.25AAV for 2 years. No, I don' think they would make this trade if it included Borgstrom. He would be 13/14F on our roster with Quinn and Peterka coming up next year. I like Borgstrom for the Sabres a lot actually, but he isn't waiver exempt and I don't want to lose him or have him playing little-to-none minutes.

Currently as a 49 corsi team with PDO almost at 100 they're due to finish the season around .500 and mittsy and tuch returning will only help
Skinner nearing 30 likely to keep trending down
If I were them I'd try for a different return that takes back much more short term money that can be buried or bought out or broken down better but yeah</div></div>
I can understand where you're coming from, but the Sabres won't be cap-strapped for years with all their young contracts.
IF they decided Skinner needed to come off their books, this trade doesn't happen for at least another two seasons and once the cap rises so his contract isn't completely detrimental to the team their trading him to. This trade now would be counter-productive to a Sabres rebuild

Because he's a respectable option in net for a team that obviously doesn't want to overpay for a quality UFA or trade
