What is Samuel Girards price and availability
it depends. If avs trade for a young middle 6/2C option else where. Then the avs would probbaly look for future type of package for G to save on the cap
if avs use G to gain that young middle 6/2c option, then they would probably look for a hockey swap for him.

Comtois could be what Oskar is at the NHL level, so at the very worse Avs are just getting the player they have in the system but earlier.
Ducks get the youth and the upside still as hes not a finished product yet

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I would accept either.
Eakins won't play Comtois and he's not getting a fair chance, so I want to see him go somewhere where he has a chance to succeed. I always root for my Ducks alumni.
Still hoping for a Manson-Lindholm reunion in the Finals. (And the worst disciplinary move the NHL DPS ever took was to break Cogliano's consecutive-games streak for a bogus stick infraction.)</div></div>
I like the idea of Comtois. Avs need a little size and a shooter in their middle 6. I think he would help their depth scoring issues.
If 1st and Oskar is fair, I think this trade is a nice piece of business between the 2. Fair and everyone gets what they need.

Lost in all the noise about Jakob Chychrun to Los Angeles with or without Brandt Clarke yesterday was that Eakins scratched Comtois again last night. At least no one can blame him for the third-period debacle.</div></div>
What about Oskar instead of Behrens?
What’s the deal with comtois? Just getting the dog house treatment?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Sure it makes sense. The avs have no cap space and he has a troubled injury history. This is very real value for a player who has played under 100 games in 3 years and also needs a new contract. You may disagree and not like it, but it's a valid concept</div></div>
Check again. They have cap space space to sign
Byram, you gave him a 3m aav, you are acting like they can’t make moves to afford that which is just ridiculous
Byram is an impact player when healthy, 3m isn’t scaring the avs away , in fact that contract would be doing them
A favour

Oh right byram is in the nhl and Johnson hasn’t played a game yet . You are really under valuing how good byram is.

I think foudy has over taken Oskar as the top prospect in the ahl
2023 1st, foudy Annenun and Behrens are the assets I have a hard time seeing them part with. Besides that I can see them try to get the best player they can for the remaining assets

Is he worth the waiver claim

Another potential option is to acquire him on TDL Day at 50% retention if he gets claimed by a team willing to move him.</div></div>
thats easier said that done. There are rules about trading a waiver claim player the same season. If a team trades a player that they claimed, they have to first offer them to the other teams who put claims on him before they can move him.
I believe there is a timeline that a player can be traded after claimed, I am trying to find if its the same 30 days 10 games rule.
There are roughly 10 games until the deadline for many teams. So that could be another wrinkle

Rangers will be an interesting team at the deadline and offseason
Threat could be eliminated depending if they invest in a Patrick Kane move but then he would eat up even more cap space bc assume he’s waiving to extend there
Chytil is the most interesting offersheet canadiate and probably most likely to consider signing one bc how the top 6 cs are locked in
I can see him bejng moved in the offseason for a nice return

Considering it was reported yesterday he did in fact reinjury his hip/groin from compensating ej than broken foot; I would say it’s a major risk trading for someone who has another hip injury after he has 2 hip surgeries to try to fix it.
I think it’s more likely he is shut down for the season at this point, unless he comes out for their next practice is on the skating and the tva guys were wrong. It’s not looking good for him

second line center
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Yeah, that's the big question - I think they're running with Barzal on the wing for now to see how he gels with Horvat, and the (very) early returns look nice. I think long-term Barzal winds up as a winger who can fill in at center when need be - similar to Mikko Rantanen in a way.
The thing I run into with a possible trade, though, is what can the Avs offer? I don't think it's crazy to say Nelson is a very strong 2C - he very consistently scores 25-30 goals, plays a sound enough defensive game that you're not worried about him being a problem, and has a relatively affordable $6M hit. We both know that the pipeline in Colorado is pretty dry, and that the Isles would probably want an NHL-ready player back. The only guys Colorado has signed for '23-24 are mostly untouchable (MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Makar) or RFAs. If I was driving the boat on this trade, I'd be looking right at Alex Newhook and saying it would have to start there, and an extra pick would be coming along with its value based on how much retention you'd want, if any. It's a tough trade to build, for sure.</div></div>
It would be a girard based trade, just moving cap around but I dont think the Islanders have any interest in him. Probably only way to make it work is Avs move girard in another trade, gain the assets they need to flip for Nelson, or have the young newhook like player back from a G trade so they can move Newhook in this type deal
Probably a very complicated lots of moving parts trade for both teams, potentially a third to make it all make sense

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>If it's there, they'd need a roster player coming back - since they traded Raty there's really no centers left in the pipeline to step up and take that 2C spot (CF has Iskhakov listed as a C but I think he winds up more on the wing when he makes his NHL debut.) JG Pageau can moonlight at 2C if necessary, but he's not a long-term solution there.</div></div>
the real question is do they plan on splitting Horvat Barzal as 1C 2C eventually or are they goign to convert Barzal to a Full Wing moving forward. That is the only way I can see them moving Nelson if that is the ultimate plan and have Pageau a high end 3C.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Two weeks ago I would've said "yeah let's talk about it" but obviously the team has gone all-in on the current core - before the Horvat trade, I had posted something about sending Nelson out with full retention for a 2nd and a strong prospect - if the Isles were in the tank, it made sense to eat the contract and turn Nelson into a 2x$3M guy scoring 60 points and maximizing the return. But now I think they're going to stick with him for now - I can't see them giving up that package and extending Horvat and then moving out other productive veterans.</div></div>
This offseason I wonder if they explore moving him. Move money around, he would be such a good fit on the avs, wonder if there is an offseason deal therd

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Giving Larkin $9M puts the Avs in a situation this summer where they will have just over $9M in cap space and only 7 forwards and 4 D under contract - so they need at least 7 players just to ice a full team. You've got to extend Alex Newhook & Bowen Byram, and even on a bridge deal I'd conservatively say that will take up $3.5M of space. Now you need to basically fill out your bottom 6 and get a replcement for Erik Johnson with only $5.5M available. It's just putting yourself in too tight of a bind - if they *do* upgrade 2C at the deadline, I think they find a way to do it with a pure rental that won't cost such significant assets.</div></div>
Can the avs figure out a trade for Brock Nelson, what’s the islanders can plan next offseason?
