Brendan Gallagher is a luxury we can't afford, even at 50% retention. And he's not worth a first-round draft pick to us even if he is.

No thanks from LA. Faber is a keeper, and that 1st round pick could be Shane Wright this year or Conner Bedard next year (if lottery protected). If Fiala elects arbitration he will be a UFA next summer and there would be nothing the Kings could do about it.

Leafs next year
Lisa Dillman from <em>The Athletic</em> just wrote an article today saying that the Kings are not looking to trade for a RHD to fill in for Doughty and Walker. They're going to give some of the young kids a shot to see what they can do. So far they haven't disappointed.

Rielly doesn't make us a contender this year, so as my esteemed colleague <a href="/users/kingsfaninSD" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@kingsfaninSD</a> says, we'll sign him in the off-season and keep our two extremely valuable futures. And Nick Robertson is a fine young prospect, but we're not paying Athanasiou and a second for him with all the good left-handed forwards we have already.

LA Kings Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>Byfield and Turcotte will likely start in the AHL but they will each likely see minimum 30 NHL games.</div></div>
I don't expect either of them to get more than 10 games in the NHL. Especially Byfield, since the Kings can slide his ELC another year.
The Kings hired the US National Development Team coach for a reason. They're going to let him do his job. The kids are better off playing first line minutes in the AHL where they can realistically compete for a Calder Cup than play bottom six minutes on a bubble team in the NHL.
If there are numerous injuries in the NHL this year, then all bets are off. Short of that, I don't see any waiver exempt players except JAD, Vilardi, Anderson, or Bjornfot getting more than 10 NHL games this season.

Why is one year of Morgan Rielly worth not only the eighth overall pick in this year's draft, where we might pick up the next Morgan Rielly, but also an A-plus prospect and an A prospect?
Rebuilding teams shouldn't be trading for expensive rentals.

I get that, but why should LA compensate Toronto for years that Rielly is not under contract? 1 year of Rielly is not worth two quality RHD and several draft picks.
Walker, a 2nd, and a conditional 3rd based on LA's playoff performance next season is the most I would offer for Rielly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>"Cherry picks stats" then you solely focus on him being a healthy scratch and relative xGF% lol Vrana has elite underlying offensive numbers...? YOu ever think that the capitals are an offensive juggernaut bc of players like Vrana.? makes sense. he was one of the main catalyst of them winning the cup. Vrana is a fast goal scoring threat im betting that 10/10 GMs would take him for a guy like Iafallo +. Iafallo has very average to good offensive numbers and you can blame the team but explain how kopitar is killing it right now? excuses are weak.... 3 quality pieces for a player that is 33rd in p/60. oh well to each their own</div></div>
Because Kopitar is and has always been one of the best players in the league. Iafallo is a supporting player who is very good at all aspects of the game, but exceptional in none. He's a quality middle-six player on most teams, but his defensive play and work ethic are top notch and makes him the ideal winger for Kopitar. By the way, Iafallo has been credited for much of Kopitar and Brown's resurgence by his coaches.
The Kings are a hard working team. Players with lackluster work ethics aren't welcome here. You're welcome to keep Vrana and trade him to a team that will value his type of play. LA isn't it.

Vrana is 33rd with 2.932... players near him Aho and Connor lol
Iafallo is 193 with a 1.945.. players near him Mangiapane and Foegele
"Bjornfot will be the next captain of the Kings when Kopitar retires. He's not going anywhere." this might be the most stupid thing ive read... i would safely assume Kings next captian would be Byfield or Turcotte. yesterday you told me you wouldnt trade Vrana for Iafallo and i came to the conclusion that you are either a kid and a clueless adult. Vrana is better in everyway than Iafallo and hes a RFA and younger.....</div></div>
You very clearly don't follow the Kings. LA drafted Bjornfot higher than he was expected to go due to his leadership qualities. The kid is a natural leader, taking over teams at every level he has played, including the Swedish national team, and in professional leagues with much older players back in Europe. He took a fairly active leadership role in Ontario in the AHL at age 18. Blake specifically said that culture, entitlement, and leadership were issues with this team after guys like Mitchell and Williams left, and Bjornfot was selected to help with that. Captains don't have to be the team's leading scorer, and LA has a long history of selecting workhorses over skilled players, as evidenced by captains like Mattias Norstrom and Dustin Brown. I will be very surprised if anyone but Bjornfot is the next captain of the Kings.
So Vrana plays on an offensive juggernaut and Iafallo plays on one of the worst 5v5 teams in the league, and you want to quote xGF% as "evidence" that Vrana is a better defensive player than Iafallo? How much PK time does Vrana get? What was cited as the reason why Vrana was a recent healthy scratch: "His play without the puck." In the meantime, Iafallo is 2nd among team forwards in SH TOI, behind only Anze Kopitar, one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL. You can cherry pick fancy stats all you want, but Iafallo is lauded by his coaches daily as the hardest working player on the ice, with and without the puck, while Vrana was just a healthy scratch.
I'm not saying Vrana is a bad player. I'm not even saying Iafallo is better than he is. I am saying that LA isn't about to give up 3 quality pieces for a player that has been a healthy scratch multiple times in his career.

We can protect both Andersson and Grundstrom in the expansion draft. We wouldn't protect Pettersson from Seattle, so we'd almost certainly lose him. And that's not even addressing the question of whether he's worth both of those guys (which, in my opinion, he's not).

Pettersson doesn't fit in LA. The Kings are looking to upgrade their 1LD. Pettersson is a fine option for 2LD, but Bjornfot and Anderson already have that spot covered.

D’Orio Is on the Pens taxi squad and is a 21 year old goalie. Good potential!!
And the 3rd round pick. If the Pens don’t figure some things out, then these picks they are trading and have already traded away could be descent picks, if not better.
I think the value is there. I was at aware C.Peterson is that highly thought of.</div></div>
The value might be there for a back-up goalie, but as my esteemed colleague <a href="/users/kingsfaninSD" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@kingsfaninSD</a> says, Petersen is our goalie of the future. LA will protect him instead of Jonathan Quick in the upcoming expansion draft.
