<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilsince95</b></div><div>Sure, longterm that might be nice, but creating those 3 functioning lines any time soon with the wingers we have (and even if one more middle six wing was added) is a longshot. Also, imo, RNH play in the top 6. When he was more of a 3C in the playoff year, it clearly hurt his ability to produce. He needs to be put on an offensive line, not an absolute shut down line. Further, there seem to be a strange amount of 3C's names floating around as gettable (Bonino, Eakin etc.) for perhaps cheaper than a top 6 winger. The other reality is that Nuge and McD are not great in the faceoff dot, so a guy like Bonino could really help with that.

I think the route back to a functioning group of forwards is more easily created by leaving Drai on McD's wing where he is best, and adding a good defensive 3C who can form a shutdown line with Granlund and Archibald or Kassian to allow Nuge's line to get softer, more offensive minutes.</div></div>

Orr.... The Oilers have the centre depth that should allow them to have three scoring lines, and one shut down line. Forget the concept of 2nd and 3rd lines; they should have a first line with McD, and two more scoring lines lead by Drai and RNH. That's really what the Oilers should strive for. The game is getting faster and faster with more emphasis on scoring. The league and rules are working against enforcers and defensive lines, and will continue to do so. The NHL is going to continue to place more emphasis on scoring. As such, with the centre depth the Oilers have, the should really be having three scoring lines, and an "energy line" or... a "shut-down" line; really... just a line that can hold it's own until one of the other lines is rested enough.

Again, this is in a perfect world, which... is far from the one Oilers fans live in. The Oilers will continue to struggle for at least one more year. Next summer will be huge for Holland and the foreseeable future success of this organization. Not much to be done this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgfresh78</b></div><div>The real question here is what do you think they’ll do with puljujarvi? Do you think that situation can be resolved or is it beyond repair?</div></div>

Take out a hit on him, shed the contract, realize on the insurance proceeds, and move on with life.

I'm not one for "sticking it" to the players, as it doesn't bode well for future players to come to Edmonton.

On the flip side, the kid has been given NUMEROUS opportunities to step into the top-6; he just is in capable of it; the Oilers have tried to put him in an environment where he can succeed and build confidence (i'm talking about his assignment to the AHL), and he performed... okay... His English is brutal making it impossible for him to develop and create chemistry with his teammates, coaches or GM. He's also (self admitted) not taken the transition to English seriously. Finally, there are few other teams in the NHL that are so painfully desperate for a top-6 forward as the Oilers are, and he wants to turn his back on that. If he showed up to camp, he would naturally slide into the top-6, regardless of whether he earns it or not. It would literally be handed to him because he shows up. But instead, he's acting like a child who and is demanding a trade.

In my opinion, he has a huge opportunity; but if he doesn't take it, he's really worthless. The Oilers, at worst, would lose a marginal bottom-6 player (in a trade, the might recoup a 3rd round pick... not really worth it). So, back to my original point, if he doesn't come crawling back with a better attitude, the insurance money and loss of contract would be more valuable to the Oilers than keeping him.
