TDL Expectations
This trade is atrocious asset management from Edmonton. Trading a 2nd AND retaining to make the salaries almost equal to exchange Koskinen for a goalie with extremely similar below average statistics. The "advantage" is the extra year on the contract but the Oilers already have Smith and Skinner signed next year. You'd be better off keeping your 2nd and playing Skinner more than acquiring Hill.
Hill- 0.901sv% -0.23 GSAA/60
Koskinen- 0.900sv% -029 GSAA/60
The difference between the 2 goalies over a 50 game season based on the 24 they've both played to date is Hill saving you an extra 3 goals for that 2nd round pick.

I'd do that from the Oilers end for sure. Doubt either of those guys would want to come to Edmonton though unfortunately.

But think of the toughness you've added to the goaltending position. Essentially the only reason you take Dell back there is if Buffalo insists on sending a contract back the other way. This doesn't make much sense though overall, you'd be better off just including Koskinen in the trade that you acquire another goalie and pay a bit more.

I wouldn't necessarily keep him in the minors but at least bring him in the bottom 6. He plays a physical game where he doesn't need to be top 6, let him learn the ropes down there and if the offense starts to come, re-evaluate. From what I saw of him at the WJC last year, he could be a very nice fit in that bottom 6.

Deadline deals
That's an overpay for Varlamov. I still think he's a smart get for the Oilers, I'd think a 1st plus Koskinen is enough to get it done. Paying a 1st, 3rd, and decent prospect without giving any salary back is a huge overpay.
I did read somewhere that they may keep both Varlamov and Sorokin for the Russian factor. Sorokin is still only in his 2nd year in North America so losing his mentor and only other Russian on the team could have impacts on the human side of it. I remember in the Panarin/Bobrovsky free agencies, going places with a Russian community was a factor.

So many options here. I'm having trouble not putting RNH as 3C to have a 3rd line that starts to win some match-ups. Looking forward to see this in action, hoping Holloway continues to look good in Bakersfield and makes an appearance around mid-Feb.

Agreed... Holloway will definitely be broken in on a bottom 6 role before he sees ice time with McDavid or Drai. Put him with Nuge on the 3rd line and hopefully get some favourable match-ups.

I like the guy overall but he doesn't bring anything the Oilers need to the table. If the Oilers wanted him, he likely would've signed for another year at a similar price point and not cost assets but the Oilers never offered him a contract. The Oilers are imminently bringing in Kane and wouldn't be surprised to see Holloway after the all-star "break". Both of those guys bring offensive talent with size and play a physical game. The Oilers are already too easy to play against, adding a 5'9" 161lb skilled forward for the bottom 6 doesn't help.

You mean he didn't enjoy it when we ran him out of town with torches and pitchforks after the 2017 playoffs? Can't imagine why he wouldn't want to experience that again.

Best Leafs Team
So Edmonton takes the Leafs overpaid contracts for the next few years (while being in cap hell themselves) while giving back a single bad contract for less than half a season AND pay a 1st to do it. The Oilers already have an injury prone tandem goalie and an aging slowly 2nd pairing D but at least only 1 year left on those contracts. This would really be doubling down.

Offseason
Going into a season with a goalie tandem that has combined for 42 games. Good thing going into a season with questions marks has never turned out poorly for the Oilers.
The AAV for Kane is reasonable but nobody in their right mind should give more than a 1 year deal.
While Smith has no formal trade protection, he can choose to retire rather than accept the trade which leaves Edmonton on the hook for his cap hit. Doubt he wants to go to Philly to end his career.

Blackhawks rebuild
Price for Fleury is probably 1st + Koskinen for Fleury @ $2.5mil retained. Low odds it's a late round pick, more likely to be closer to the middle of the round. At the end of the day, Fleury is a rental with a limited market... getting a 1st is a good haul. If Chicago wants to hold him because they think that return isn't enough, that's their call.

Nobody in the league will give a first round for Georgiev so the ask is irrelevant. If anything the closest comparable would be Vanacek getting traded back to Washington for a 2nd. And the "retention" is for 25% of the season... you'd be more likely to retain 50% to get cap hits close to even than give a prospect to even it out.

Especially now that he's essentially started over on his knee rehab. Even at 50% retained those are significant assets and cap space for a guy who's timeline to being healthy is completely unknown.

One consideration is probably still keeping Ryan as a 4C to have one RHC for face-offs in the line-up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stuey4Vezina</b></div><div>the only problem I have is the third line. When they had that line but, instead of Holloway it is Hyman and that line was not producing except for Hyman. I'd personally put Holloway with Draisaitl because they can really use some playmaking to replace Nuge on the second line</div></div>
My thoughts on Holloway is to start him in the bottom 6 and make him play his way up the line-up. The lines with Drai/McDavid will take their top players most of the night giving Holloway favourable match-ups to get used to the NHL game. Like what I've seen so far and he could warrant a spot up the line-up sooner than later, just there's way more expectations in terms of production with McDavid/Draisaitl and playing away from them will help manage expectations for a rookie.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eberles_Backcheck</b></div><div>Why is it a bunch of meh? The Hyman-McLeod-Puljujarvi line did extremely well against Toronto.
RNH and Yamamoto have good chemistry, and adding a fast, tenacious player in Holloway would only compliment them. Plus they'd face much easier competition.</div></div>
Hyman-McLeod-Puljujarvi is a really good checking line. All big bodies that skate well and have good defensive positioning. Just no real offensive driver out of the 3 of them. They'd defend well, I'd just expect 3rd line type scoring rates.
I like the Holloway-Nuge-Yamamoto combo as well but it's another line that's best off as a 3rd.
By loading up McDrai, you end up not having a true 2nd line and again end up riding them too hard and have too much expectation on your 1st line. I'd rather spread out the talent.

The main advantage of Kane is another talented body to help spread out the offence. Putting him with McDavid and Drai squanders that advantage with a nuclear option and a bunch of meh.
I'd personally go something like:
Kane-McDavid-Foegele
Hyman-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi
Holloway-Nuge-Yamamoto
McLeod-Ryan-Kassian

Fix the caps
Sorokin probably costs multiple firsts to get the Islanders to move him. Varlamov probably goes for a 2nd plus another 2nd/3rd or decent prospect. If Sorokin only cost that you'd have 31 NHL GMs interested.
