The Canes wouldn’t trade Necas alone for Nylander.

The Canes would essentially be renting Nylander, no chance they give him Aho money. They’ll be happy keeping Necas, who’s younger, basically produces 80-90% of what Nylander does for less than half the price.

And I haven’t even yet started talking about Pesce…

Last thing the canes need is another defenseman since they’re looking add DeAngelo plus are rumored to be after Karlsson too. No need to add Teravainen or Brodie to complicate things.

If you want Pesce for Nylander, think Pesce + adds not named Necas, Jarvis, Nikishin or Morrow. maybe the + is a pick or two

Nylander likely wants $9M, Pesce most likely wants $6-7M.

Nylander is a top line winger with 1yr left at just under $7M. Pesce is a top pair RD with one year left at $4M.

The difference between 1yr of Pesce and 1yr of Nylander is most certainly not Seth Jarvis still on his ELC.

Canes laugh and tell the Leafs to find some other team to bail them out of their cap issues.

There’s no reason for the Canes to trade a younger, cheaper player who will be an RFA for an older player, who will cost twice as much AND will be a UFA. Plus you want Pesce?

You really need to temper your expectations on a potential Pesce return. He’s not going to return a recent 100pt C on a multi year deal, nor is he going to return a 23yr old 40pt, top 4 RD.

He’ll likely be worth a lot, but teams will not and should not be parting with those sorts of assets for him. I don’t think the Canes should trade him, and I get the whole “gotta make it worth it for the Canes to trade him” vibe. However, history and reality are not on your side with these sort of expectations.

Exactly, Ceci is a cap dump. Why would CAR want his cap hit for an extra year?

Pesce is a better defenseman in all facets of the game. The point of dealing him would be to get better elsewhere, not bring in a worse defender.
