How much would these D Men Cost
Bortuzzo could absolutely be traded. Problem is that he's the 4th RHD on the roster and there is nothing (and I mean nothing) behind him so likely the Blues would want more than would actually be reasonable to pay. Reinke is the only other RHD worth considering in the system, and he has basically no NHL experience and is a borderline NHL player at best. If any one of Faulk, Pietrangelo, or Parayko go down for any amount of time, if Bortuzzo was also gone Blues would be ****ed.
Besides, Bortuzzo plays a great 4th line forward as well lol

I think your Binnington evaluation is dead on. Now that there's been a full season under his belt, he has kind of settled in as a league-average++ netminder with upside that has played well in pressure situations. Puck handling, positioning, and athleticism are all strong, but rebound control is subpar.
There will be another full season to evaluate him, plus hopefully two deep playoff runs. If he is super successful he could easily push past where you have him pegged but I think it's likely he goes for right where you have him.

2 Years from now
This is really cool, thanks for putting it together. At a glance, it seems pretty solid. The Schwartz re-up will be interesting -- he's a better player than Schenn and will be hitting that age 29-30 extension. Do they really pay him $6.6 over 7? Does he have that sort of impact?
Defense really seems underwhelming in two years. Even assuming that Mikkola works out, he brings nothing on offense so that pairing with Parayko will be a black hole. I think we've seen in only a few games with Scandella what an even slightly offensively-minded defenseman can do on Parayko's left side. I doubt Bortuzzo is offering much 2 seasons from now, and we are hoping that Perunovich works out as well.
So yeah, I could nitpick this to my personal preference but I think you've got it pretty good. Makes me a little more comfortable that the core of the team will be able to stay together for a while yet. Nicely done.

One of my favorite things about CapFriendly is how people always think Parayko can be had for peanuts and draft picks. Mostly Leafs fans. I mean, I get it...I'd want him too, lol.

St Louis Blues 2020 - keeping Pietrangelo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>You might think he's a prime trade candidate now, but what about next year when perhaps Bozak and/or Steen is gone and we need good value guys around because Petro has been re-signed to a pricey deal? We're not exactly in a position to toss out cheap talent with upside willy-nilly. He can surely be had for the right offer, but it's not like trading him helps the cap situation much and I'm not entirely convinced just yet that another team will give the return we'd want. We'll see, there will be plenty of roster wrangling come summer.</div></div>
Yep 100% agree. I'm certainly not opposed to keeping him around at all, but if the Blues need a little bit of extra wiggle in 2020-21 to get Pietrangelo under the cap (and maybe another LHD) he's not a bad option -- every dollar counts. Would absolutely need to get good return back though, definitely don't want to just toss him in the trash like we are likely to do with JDLR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blunder</b></div><div>I get that, but usually in these situations the organization wants to make a commitment to a player who captained your team to a stanley cup & is a key core piece for the team. Exception if you will.
I could see the Blues passing on guys like Schwartz and Perron in the future if the money isn't right, avoiding the idea that the "band has to stay together", but Pietrangelo is the one guy you don't want to let go IMHO.</div></div>
I do agree with you that Pietrangelo is the one guy you don't want to lose above all others. But if you give the captain the huge deal, what's to stop Dunn holding out this offseason for more cash? What about Thomas and Kyrou next year? I'm not saying the Blues end up like the Leafs, but there is organizational momentum to this kind of stuff -- "if he's getting paid, why not me?"
To me, no player is bigger than the organizational philosophy of keeping top end salaries low and spreading the wealth among more players. Even Pietrangelo. There are only a few clubs that have been able to successfully obtain that kind of organizational mojo over time and it should be protected.

I'm taking the no on this one. It seemed to me during his stint earlier in the season that he needs another year to cook and get lots of ice. I think he'll break in next season the way Kyrou has this season and Thomas did last year, and if he doesn't he'll get shipped.

I guess time will tell. I still think $1.75 is a realistic number on him after the season. I also think he's a prime trade candidate because the Blues have a glut of middle/bottom 6 wingers and Blais has more value to other clubs than he does to the Blues buried on the 4th line or as a healthy scratch.

Bozak (5M) is replaceable by the likes of Sundqvist and Barbashev and backup goalies contract can't be standing in the way of signing your 1D.
Accomplish those things and i can easily see how 11M cap hit fits under the cap. Heck, after a couple RFA's i still have 4M to sign a LHD.</div></div>
I mean money is definitely the issue. Blues' modus operandi has been to pay players lower salaries so they can afford depth across all 4 forward lines and 3 defensive pairings. They are anti top heavy. Paying Pietrangelo $10.0 just does not fit into the organization strategy. It could be done, but it's not what the Blues do. BOS has adopted a similar strategy for whatever it's worth.
Aside from that, no question that moving Bozak is on the table.

If we resign Pietrangelo, Niko Mikkola (AHL) probably plays LHD. He's been very good in a handful of games alongside Parayko this season (of course, Parayko makes everyone look good on his pairing).
If Pietrangelo doesn't resign, Blues probably resign Scandella and roll out Gunnarsson, Scandella, and Dunn on the left side. Would have room to sign another guy as well, or go ahead and play Mikkola and scratch Gunnarsson.
It's not that the Blues wouldn't take a LHD, just that the guys you are offering up for Sundqvist (who is producing far beyond his contract) don't come close to matching his value. Johnsson + draft capital would be necessary.

You picked a couple of guys I think the Blues could/want to move but the players don't make much sense. Blues definitely don't have need of another developmental goaltender. I don't know much about Vejdemo but he's 24 and looks like he has almost no NHL experience -- probably a career AHL guy. The draft picks make sense.
I'd rather see the MTL original 2nd and 3rd rounders and a guy like Struble or Fleury.

Yeah it did set him back, but really it's more of a function of the Blues having a glut of forwards that would be considered middle 6. Sanford has the 2nd line spot on lockdown at this point whereas that spot belonged to Blais at the start of the season.
I think Blais (or to be specific his RFA rights) are a prime trade target for the offseason to be honest. He has more value to another club than he does to the Blues.

a) I don't think Petro signs for 9.5 for 6, b) DA has been prioritizing low AAV over term. Look at the Schenn deal as an example. Extend guys beyond their prime years to keep low AAV to keep the band together and hunt for additional championships while the window is open.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>Move Bozak or give Dunn less money and term. 1-2 years for 2.5 mil.</div></div>
100% agreed on moving Bozak if it is possible and necesasry. I don't think Dunn takes the money/term you are proposing.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>2. Why would you trade Blais and give a mil to Mac? Keep Blais for a mil and give Mac league minimum and have him play in AHL.</div></div>
Blais will return more value and is kind of an odd man out with the current roster. He's an arb-eligible RFA so he'll get a lot more than $1MM, probably closer to $1.75-$2.25. Too rich for the Blues if extending Petro. Sure I'd be ecstatic to keep him for a mil but you aren't being realistic.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>Also no chance MTL will want to have 15 mil in their goalies. EDM, Detroit and Carolina are who I would look to for an Allen trade.</div></div>
Fair enough. I picked Montreal mostly because they have the Blues 2nd rounder from this year so the synergy was nice. The actual team matters less than the concept -- trading Allen for some draft capital and to free up space to sign Petro.

IMO how to keep Pietrangelo
This is a pretty realistic take IMO. I think it is more likely that Petro goes for 8/8.5 -- more term, less AAV -- if he stays with the Blues. Buffalo might not be the right team but 100% he gets moved this offseason to clear up some space. I don't think they buyout Steen (I don't think DA has ever done a buyout) but more likely they work around Bozak's 10-team NTC and move him if necessary.
Scandella is going to get a lot more than 1 year $2.0, he's almost definitely gone unless there is a lot more salary cleared somehow.
Dunn probably gets more like $3.0.
But yeah, I think this is directionally accurate.

Pietrangelo resigns in the offseason
Agreed 100% - Steen isn't waiting his NTC. He can be bought out and the Blues pick up $2.3MM next season, which could come in very handy. That's the only option for taking his contract off the books.
I think shedding the Bozak contract would be fairly simple; to your point, nothing coming back in return but getting rid of a $5.0 cap hit with $4.25 salary for only one year isn't a big deal. Lots of young teams would probably like the vet leadership and cup experience for a single season anyway. Maybe worth a low draft pick.
Allen, if he keeps up his current play, is suddenly a somewhat valuable commodity. I could see the Blues easily pulling a 3rd rounder in return for his services, even if it isn't from the Devils. Pretty far cry from where his value was at the end of last season.
After evaluating the return on the Hall trade, I think the Sanford + 2nd trade for Krieder is completely realistic and perhaps even doable for a 3rd instead of a 2nd. I don't see the Blues really resigning him though.
