If the Leafs go out in the first round again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Z_ach</b></div><div>Nylander is not for sale. He is about to be a 30+ goal scorer and 70+ point scorer. Why would you trade that? Also he is still young is getting into his prime years. His contract looks like a steal right now. I know Jones will solve our d problems but you would be giving up too much for him imo</div></div>
Funny how leafs fans see this trade as giving up too much but the rest of the NHL fanbase agrees its not enough

Allen is like 5th in the league in save percentage, and he's been playing great for over a year now. You should watch him, he's totally fixed his mechanics, looks like a whole new player. He's probably worth a 3rd by himself.

Not even then. Adding a $10M player is simply not possible with our cap situation. Making such a trade means saying goodbye to both Parayko and Petro. No chance. And frankly, that is not a severe overpayment. A severe overpayment would mean a massive star still on an ELC. Of course, the folks who keep coming up with these Parayko trades will usually then go into how Parayko really isn't that great or irreplaceable and how their guy is such an amazing get, which just makes me wonder why they'd even want to make such a trade in the first place. Of course, they're just gaslighting, and know full and well what Parayko's value is.

Losing Petro
I think the Maple Leafs re-signing Muzzin takes them out of the running for Pietrangelo. They would need to move a significant contract to make the cap work.
Then again, given the meltdown that's happened in leafs nation this week, maybe they are willing to.

Canadiens Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cabbie91</b></div><div>Can you give me some insight as to why?
Tomas Tatar is on pace for around 70 points and has another year left on his deal after this one. Maybe I'm undervaluing Blais but I figured he's a top 9 guy with some bite, 1st round picks will be dealt and top prospects in most deals (even for rentals) it's been well proven to this point that it's a sellers market. Maybe the Blues don't need a forward?
</div></div>
Sure, no problem. Happy to explain.
1- The fact that Tatar has another year left, as nice as his cap hit may be, makes him a bad candidate for us to pick up because our first offseason priority is to re-up Petro. Grabbing Tatar just makes it $4.8M harder for us to keep our captain. We're not adding any significant cap hit until he's re-signed.
2- Beyond that, we are not trading the 2020 1st and we're not trading Hofer. And yeah, you're probably also underestimating Blais' value a bit. He has offensive upside.
3- It's always worth mentioning that Tatar is a) not a player Berube would want for his system/preferred manner of play & b) not a very good playoff performer. His speed and 5v5 skill are very nice, but he's small and doesn't grind. And while he is on a 70-point pace this season (at age 29, mind you), that's not his typical level. This will be his first season over 58 points, and just two years ago he managed only 34.
4- Finally, yes, we don't really need a forward. Tarasenko will be back, and we filled our primary need for this Cup defense run by grabbing Scandella today.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>warnken21</b></div><div>ok so why not let him flourish under someone who needs young players to fit into there system. Why don't the blues don't want Kreider who would step right in and create an immediate impact to an already dominate team? he will help them win in the post season and they will have a very very good chance at winning another cup. it seems like a no brainer.</div></div>
1. No team should be giving up their best prospect AND a first rd pick for a rental, just based on the precedents at the TDL
2. You have to be able to develop players to remain effective in a cap league. Kreider makes us better short term but there is no money to keep him around and with money so tight, you need guys on ELCs to contribute. Our GM has said over and over again that he doesn't prefer rentals unless it's a necessity. Kreider would be our 4th-or 5th-best forward, not exactly the piece to set us over the top (like a Mark Stone or Taylor Hall).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>warnken21</b></div><div>why do the blues need him if hes not even in the lineup? Just curious?</div></div>
Why is a developing 21-yr old in and out of the lineup of the best team in the Western Conference, defending champs? Because our games actually mean something and it's hard to fit development in with that some times, especially when you have an extremely old school coach and a front office that views development as a 5-year process.

Can't see a team parting with a TOP prospect and a first. For example, since you are a blues fan. Kyrou and a First would be an overpayment.</div></div>
Kyrou is already more valuable to us than Kreider, all things considered. The way I see it, Perunovich, Kostin, and Alexandrov are too promising to attach to a 1st for a rental. They may not be considered top prospects around the league but they aren't toss-ins to a deal like that.

This makes sense and would be a better fit for Matthews and Arizona and allow Edmonton to really accelerate their proper rebuild instead of wasting McDavid's prime years.

He might be in the top of the second tier. He is undeniably one of the best shutdown defenseman in the league. He is similar to niklas haljmarsson was to the hawks with a little bit more offense. I don’t think that the value here with the steen contract throwing in is off. Fan always think that their players are worth more but it was based on the bufyglien trade. To similar players with salary dump contract included.</div></div>
But they don’t have to do it, they can trade Allen/Bozak and keep Pietrangelo and Parayko

Thomas is good, yes, but Arvy won't be traded anyway, so it's a moot point.</div></div>
I’ll still take the 20 year old on a 51 point pace and top-15 in 5v5 points/60 with another elc season. You’re right though, neither player is getting traded so it’s irrelevant
