I think hawks need high end talent up front. Byron and Lehkonen are types of players the hawks could get in free agency.

Close to it, he was the best hawks player before the deadline in my opinion.

That's a lot of good pieces to leave on the table. Galchenyuk has been ridiculed in MTL for years.

not really. it only started last season, and it was mostly fueled by the media. if u haven't seen him play the past 40 games, you should. defensively he's playing great, and offensively as well.

I like the forward lines.

Now fix the defense and goaltending.

I'd take one of the 1sts for Petry, McCarron, and a 2018 2nd. You?

Yup Chucky for the second half of the season has actually started getting his sh#t together defensively. Offensively he has like 21pts in his last 25 or so games. If the Habs organization didn't royally mess up the way they did with his development, he'd probably be a 65-70pts guy imo. That's why so many Habs fans really don't want to trade him. Chucky in a Hawks uniform would probably get him Panarin type numbers....sigh

I don't know why everyone is suddenly forgetting that we're getting a top-10 pick in a very good draft. Unless CHI falls lower than they are due to lottery, this is a very good deal for the Habs.

And trust me, I love Galchenyuk. I think he should be a center, and genuinely believe he can be a 70pt player if trusted. His mismanagement is Seguin-esque.
But I'm seeing two first and two seconds. The players aren't half bad either (but clearly quantity over quality).

I'm in.

for me trading Galchenyuk for another top 10 pick, especially if they'd draft a winger in that spot, would be like hitting the reset button, and hoping Habs management doesn't mess up the new guy. And I have almost zero faith in Habs management at the moment. Let's not forget, even though Chucky has already played 6 NHL seasons, he's just 24. Add the fact that he was Therrien and Julien's whipping boy for almost 4 out of those 6 seasons.
I don't know, I just have this gut feeling once MTL trade Galchenyuk, he'll start producing like 70pts a season...

Well, Galchenyuk will be UFA in 2 years and Montreal is contemplating a rebuild. He's going to hit his prime soon on a rebuilding team and it might just waste his career. Why not reset? Get some prospects closer to the age of Mete, Scherbak, Lindgren. Why have high end talent in it's prime when you can trade it to speed up the rebuild?

Hawks have plenty of bottom line forwards and don't need Petry.

Absolutely, this is something I expect to happen. As I said, Seguin-esque. I'm just saying, if we're stuck with current management and coaching, then this deal works in initiating the rebuild.
If I'm the GM, I clean house and respectfully refuse the deal. Galchenyuk would be our 1C. So, two ways of looking at it I guess.

I get not wanting McCarron, that makes sense. I don't understand why you have interest in Schlemko but not Petry. Also, the 2nd would only be a few picks behind the 1st (NSH), meaning the package would not need to be huge.

If management is serious about a rebuild, yes I would do this.

If I was Rocky Wirtz and if Bowman traded the Hawks first round pick I would fire him for it unless it was a deal he couldn't refuse.
