Florida refuses to not have the worst goalie contracts. Keeping the streak alive!!!

Technically, the Canucks inherited the worst goalie contract in the league.

the extra 10M on the backside can be traded, as you see NMC Clause is gone after the first 5 years...which means they seem to think Spencer Knight is a few years out.

who the hell would want to take that contract on?
No one, that's who. This isn't movable in any kind of way when the NTC ends. 36 year old 10 million a year goalie. Get real.

I don't care how you argue this. No one here wants to pay bob 10 million a year at 35+. No one. And neither does any other NHL team.
Horrible deal.
You know who won this deal.
CBJ won this deal. Hands down.

and they had to give up a 1st to move him for 1 year.
Honestly this is bad. A playoff choker at 10 million a year. till he's 37. You can't make this good in any way.

considering he made it into the 2nd round, and would've made into the Conference Finals if it wasn't for Rask

it's not even a matter of "if it wasn't for rask", Just like it wasn't if it wasn't for the Penguins, or washington. Rask didn't let those soft goals in. He had to play better he didn't. As he does every year in the playoffs. Playing good in one series, aka TB, doesn't make you a good goalie. He's flopped in every other series he's been in.

I don't think any goalie is worth $10M, espeically a 30 year old one, regardless of how good. The problem is the spread between the best goalies and good goalies is very small on average, and there is a legitimate chance a goalie that nobody considers top tier right now, badly outperforms a guy like Bob this year (either because Bob can have an off year, or someone has a great year). You don't have the happenign when you get top tier Centers or D, with McDavid making over $12M or Matthews making over $11M, you know what you are going to get, and the chances someone on waivers or signed for near league minmum provides similar value, is virtually none. With goalies, there is almost guaranteed to be someone come out of nowhere this year and give you similar value to Bob this year, and if he has a mediocre or off year, there will be plenty of goalies that do so. That is not worth paying $10M for.

Look at the goalies making the highest cap hit compared to rookies winning cups... Murray, Cam Ward, Binnington or whatever his name on Blues... Even Hextall I think had 15 wins getting Smyth... RAsk was on like 7M cap hit losing to somebody about 1/10th his cap hit that totally outclassed/out played him in SCF...

Price 10Mish without any cups or even playoffs just injuries...
Henrik getting whipped by the Kings is at like 8.5...
Rask/Fleury a few guys are like 7M wont win a damn thing either smile.

You can pay a goalie like 5/6M in cap hit but once it gets to 7M or more its just too much... Position alone is going to cost 7.5M on cap to 8M factoring in backup... This guy is 10M that is over 11% of the total cap a team has so its too much to be competitive... Also no taxes in Florida so its like 15M in CAlifornia I guess wink. He will bomb, this will be like Ilya Bryklakov or whatever Flyers goalie name was the space cadet smile.

Wow this contract is already a dumpster fire. No real shock though, Bob's numbers have been declining since his last Vezina in 2016-2017

Tallon finalized this contract 7/1/19... I wonder what date it was when he realized that he messed up.

Probably on October 8th when he let in four goals in a single period.

Extremely risky move. By the time this contract is over Bobrovsky will be 40 years of age. This contract might work for the next three or so years, but just wait until Bobrovsky simply has no fuel left in the tank with 4 years left on his 10 million dollar contract. And if the Panthers try to trade him no one is gonna want him. In my opinion anyone over 32 in the nhl should be signed to short term deal for this reason. And that is exactly what the panthers should’ve done.

This is an old contract from 2019. Bob is entering year 4 of it.

Now the Blue Jackets have a bit of a goalie logjam with Elvis, Korpisalo, and Tarasov
