The kicker with the Leafs is that Dubas has committed to the 'Big 4', 2 $5 MIL+ dmen and a half decent goalie tandem worth just under $7 MIL.

That leaves the roster with 3 spots worth around $3.5 each for either forwards or dmen with the rest of the roster filled out with league minimum or ELCs. Right now the Leafs have Johnsson, Kerfoot and Kapanen all in that range. Most like Kapanen's right hand shot, speed and scrappy-ness so normally it is Johnsson and Kerfoot who get moved even though each have decent skill, toughness and contracts.

One thing here that I don't think is realistic is Clifford getting $1.5 MIL. Deslauriers is who I actually compare him to and Nicolas signed a 2 year deal for only $1 MIL per.

People worry about losing the 2nd Rd pick if we re-sign Clifford but we get the 3rd back so it isn't as horrendous as some make it out to be.

It should be because he has value in a trade, but most Leaves fans are just looking to dump salary and Kerfoot had a less than impressive introduction in year 1.

One of the $3.xx contracts has to go to be cap compliant. And if they want to upgrade at D, it likely means all 3 have to go because if you use Kapanen to get the D you need, you need to use Kerfoot to get the RW to replace him, and then you ave to try to find a 3C to replace with Johnsson. Dermott would have to be a trade chip (most value/as much as Kap) in the D upgrade scenario as well.
