And Marners contract will be conveniently ignored.

i dont think Detroit touches it, Bertuzzi > Johnsson and Rielly is a UFA in 2 years where as Hronek has a pretty high ceiling and is locked up for like 5+ more years. Thats like Detroit spending assets on Gaudreau

im excited for Mitch Marner to be continually put down because of his contract and his value as an actual player completely ignored because he plays "on a good team"

Hronek is younger, cheaper and is cost controlled for several years and I would rather have Bert how brings a special skill set that Johnsson who is coming off injury.

Detroit passes. Doesn’t really fit Detroit’s window. Something around Bertuzzi for Sandin would be of huge interest though.

Hronek + Bertuzzi > 2 years of Rielly

pretty sure it was toronto fans who trashed him for an entire offseason for standing his ground and signing a player friendly contract.

marner is a great player, but when discussing trade value, contracts matter in a salary cap world.

that being said, toronto should never trade marner.

This is the first thing you've said that I can agree with. You know what a big problem on this site is tho? Yeah sure Marner makes 10.8 million and it gets held against the Leafs as much as you pointing out how Leafs fans complained about what Marner got.

The point is, regardless of what he makes, he got 90+ points last season and was on pace for 90+ points again this season. It's disturbing that on one hand a player is "overpaid" so therefore what he does on ice never enters the discussion.

I wouldn’t underrate him. He’s Carolina’s best Dman. I still wouldn’t make the trade. Doesn’t really improve our team.

I agree with that. I was expecting "Marner is worth way more than a 2nd pairing LD" comments

Your imagination runs wild hearing what isn’t said nor implied. What is it with homer Leaf fans anyways?

Ignore the fact 10.9m is hard to trade no matter what else you defend it with. Heard of the cap & you should know already running a short roster was out of necessity. Lastly there are many good teams & some bubble teams as well.

Didn’t claim overpaid or anything than hard trade to negotiate if traded.

oh please, like people on this site dont consistantly try and trade marner for 40% value because he's over paid by a million or so a year with regularity

Dougie >> Dougie was in the Norris convo prior to his injury. Either way, Carolina laugh and hangup. We don't need more playmakers. We need snipers.

You are correct Detroit wants nothing to do with that. Johnsson is a 7th rd draft pick playing on a team with one of the best offenses in the league since he comes with a cap hit of $3.4M for the next 4 years. We are Good with Hronek and Bertuzzi.

If you think he’s overpaid that’s your opinion. I’ll stick to anyone getting paid 10m+ are hard to trade in any season. It’s the number that is the challenge.

Hamilton is very good too. Personally I like slavin better. His defensive game is great and he can move the puck. Doesn’t put up points like Hamilton but I think he brings a full set of skills.

Not saying marner would be the perfect fit there. Toronto has a good balance of snipers, playmakers and grinders.

Just seems like a lot of talent to give up (in all trades) to end up with a rookie in your top pair...
