Domi for 8th Overall

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2020
Published: Jul. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The main trade is from an idea presented by sabertooth12, who also suggested working Cozens in at #2 RW and putting Mittelstadt back on the horse at #3 C -- all of which I like.

Del Zotto and Irwin provide a bridge to Johnson and Samuelsson.

The Sutter trade acquires a second and assures $8 million in the bank to sign Dahlin and Jokiharju next summer.

I think MTL should take that if offered. Domi is on the lower end of what you want out of an 8th overall pick

Thatd make sense for MTL if a guy like Sanderson was available... And I think Rossi would have to be gone before 8 for BUF to trade the pick. Value is somewhat close but the CHI pick is definitely too much... STL 2nd is for sure enough.

2020 draft
1.mtl-Laffy
2.la-Stutzle
3.ott-Byfield
4.det-Perfetti
5.ott-Rossi
6.ana-Drysdale
7.nj-Raymond
8.mtl-Sanderson

They need to go the Vancouver route. This draft class is stacked with forwards, Domi isn’t worth the 8th overall pick. Maybe a 2021 first.

Sanderson will almost certainly be available there and Rossi almost certainly won't. And the sixtieth pick isn't good enough when Montreal owns the 39th and 40th.

I disagree. Domi now is better than whoever the Sabres are likely to get and put on the ice in one or two years (if ever), especially since he can by under team control for almost as long as the 8th overall pick.

We had this argument last night as well, @mhockey91 stated NO knowledgeable Sabres fan he has spoken with would trade Domi for 8th OVA and then the comments went on to call me everything from a moron to a clown for suggesting he was so good luck with this thread

But I'm NOT trading Domi for the 8th overall pick -- I'm trading the 8th overall pick for Domi plus the 39th overall pick.

Moreover, I hold @sabertooth12 in pretty high esteem as a "knowledgeable Buffalo fan," and he gets the credit if any is due for the goodness of this idea; as the saying goes, I get the criticism if it's a bad one.

Mine was Domi + Mete for Risto and 8th OVA basically the same value and I believe I threw in other picks as well

I agree no chance a team gives up a top 10 pick for Domi. In 153 games 45g 71a 116 points with the Habs. Year one looked to be a career/overachieving year. He’s a maybe 15-20 goal 50-55 point player? That’s pretty average for a team to give up a top 10 pick. He’s also 25 years old that’s not that young. I imagine they could get a way better player for that ticket.

If Domi is getting an 8overal caps counter with Kuzy for the 8overall and Cozen

How much better is Domi than Johansen? I imagine you could get him for much cheaper. His cap hit would be higher but you also don’t lose the 8overall pick

I would even understand if DOMI played like Wilson and had other tangible skill sets but he’s dry hump of Wilson when it comes to physical play. He plays okay defense and good offense. People glorify him but 50 -55 points doesn’t get you a top 10 pick. Seriously though like what is Kuzy value then? How about Rust? God forbid if Tampa trades Point what could he get

You think that Kucherov for 7th and 8th overalls is a more appealing offer than Domi and the 39th overall for the 8th overall?

Edit: Sorry, I meant to be responding to the countr-offer of Kuznetsov.

How much better is Domi playing in the center than players like Tierney or Kerfoot? It seems to me that Tierney and Kerfoot are better at defending, we need a more defensive center, maybe Domi will score more points than these guys, but I probably would not want to trade #8 for Max Domi.

It would take Domi 2 season to do what Kucherov does in one. Hardly see how this applies to this but for googles I’ll play along. Kucherov is an elite / superstar. Domi isn’t even a top 50 player. I wouldn’t give up much more than a 2nd and a good prospect for him.

Problem is teams like Buffalo need to figure out what they are doing. Are they winning now or building for the future? If they need to win now a guy like Domi doesn’t fix that. I’d rather get a guy like Danault either trade for him for sign him next year. Players like him are better adds. Danault Is closer to an 8overall than Domi

Try a non protected 2021 1st and Cm for Danault with extension. Buffalo makes playoffs easily imo

I mean it happens. Not all the time but recently .. Stone And Jensen. Like it’s not impossible. I mean A simple conversation between GMs and he signs as the trade is done. Or get him in the off-season. All these are better than trading the 8th overall for Max Domi. Do you seriously consider him good? Like a guy the makes the Sabre into a contender?

Domi makes the Sabres a team from which Jack Eichel doesn't want to jump. And no, I don't think that Montreal is even entertaining any idea of trading Danault after the disturbing (so far) experience with Kotkaniemi. A prudent Montreal GM would wait and see how that turns out before trading their #1 C.

Then how about. Domi and Kotkaniemi for 8overall and CM. That might be closer but even still I don’t like Buffalo dumping a high pick on a non elite talent

The guy's playing #2 C, not replacing Jack Eichel. Domi for the next two years is better than the guy drafted at #8 making the team in 2022-2023. Imagine that the guy picked at #8 is the next Cody Glass.

Yeah I feel like even if Montreal traded Danault they would at least make an offer and he would accept and come back even if the offer was 1-1.5 Mil lower
