Retooled Playoff Roster

Created by: SJS2212
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2020
Published: Jul. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Team should be a playoff team in the Pacific with the goaltending upgrade and upgrade to the forward group. I worry a bit about the defense and 3rd line a bit (unpredictable to know what happens with the 40 year olds as well as Stralman getting up there in age). That said, there is cap space to make an addition at the deadline on the 3rd line or D as necessary. Also have prospects that may be able to step into a 3rd line role in case of injury or just strong play in the AHL in Leonard, Blichfeld, True, and Chmelevski.

Expansion:
Kane, Meier, Hertl, Couture, Kapanen, Toffoli, Labanc/Dahlen
Vlasic, Karlsson, Simek/Honka
Georgiev

Can you retain for only partial term? I thought it had to be over the full term

I love kapanen but it gives me great pain to say this is probably a fair deal. I'd have a tough time pulling the trigger but I feel my bias towards him creeping in

Dont disagree on value for Kapanen, but I think the trade is declined for 2020-21 but definitely looking after the season is over.

No they don't. If anything, it is a bit of an overpay on the Sharks end.

I think the general formula would be bottom 6 / bottom pairing roster player + 2nd +conditional 3rd (if Georgiev gets "x" number of wins it becomes a 2nd) = Georgiev

You’re not taking into account what the Rangers have said they want for him though. They say he’s worth a late 1st. 1 for 1 they least they’d do is probably Georgiev for our 2020 2nd

They can say he's worth whatever they want. If he was truly worth that, he would have been traded already. Looking at deals that other Rangers fans have been happy with between SJ-NYR for Georgiev throughout the board, this is well within that range and likely on the high-end in terms of value. Put Suomela in the east and he's a definite 3C with 40 points due to the more flowing style of game played. Think this is very fair and probably the high-end of the value that I would be okay with DW giving up.

Lol. They turned down Kapanen. And that offer doesn’t get you Kapanen.

First you can’t just retain for a portion of the contract it has to be for the full contract also no one wants burns he isn’t very good anymore and it would cost a first round pick to get rid of him there is no way your getting that from Dallas

Burns is 1 year removed from being a PPG scorer as a defenseman and having a fantastic playoff run when he actually put care into his 2 way game. You're high as a kite if you think it costs a 1st rounder to get rid of him like he has negative value.

Guess your boy Giordano was no good and should have cost a 1st rounder to get rid of when he had a down year the year before he won the Norris? Good grief, just say you don't watch hockey and only look at age and contracts before you blabber more nonsense like this.

Burns has been declining a lot in the past season but he might be good next season but in three seasons when he is 38 with 4 years left at 8 mil I doubt anyone wants that

Maybe a little more cap retained and I think Dallas would do it
