Maybe if you cut Gaudreau then CGY says yes. Maybe.

Benn brings a lot more to the table than just points. He brings toughness and you need that in the playoffs. They have simular stats too. I would rather have Benn but this trade would work. Benn can play wing and center and brings size as well. I think it's a good trade

The difference between Benn and Gaudreau is contract, age and contract... And did I mention his contract...

I am honestly curious as to how the OP thought this was a fair trade for the Flames?

Benn is 5 years older, much more expensive and much less productive....

I think from the Habs stand point they take this deal knowing Gallagher probably resigns with Montreal at the end of the season. From the Dallas side they might be better off asking for Domi + Drouin as Domi is at least a 2C. Playing Drouin up the middle is asking for disaster. A deal of say Domi + Drouin + 2nd might be better for the Stars and something Montreal is more willing to consider

Stop me if I’m wrong... but I’m assuming you’re a Montreal fan and your ex who cheated on you is a Calgary fan?? 🤔

CGY has plenty of toughness with Bennett and Tkachuk. This is not a good trade for the Flames. Montreal will never move their golden-boy.

Yup he also brings 5 additional years of age and a 9.5M contract for the next forever - no way Calgary makes that trade.

Being Canadian has nothing to do with the argument. Why do you think they both asked for a NMC? They ask for two reasons. One it’s because they love it in Dallas. If not, both would have gone on the UFA market. Second, it’s because they want to decide where they would be traded if they would want to be traded.

As far as I know, neither Seguin and Benn went to see Nill in order to be traded. They even did not asked for a trade when they were called publicly in the 2018-2019 season.
