Toronto wouldn’t do Marner straight up without retention for Rust and Petterson. It would take a Kings ransom to take Marner. Especially with retention

2- 1st Rdrs / Poulin / Rusty / 10- Sidney Crosby appearances / A Maple Leaf symbol on Pens Jerseys for next 5 yrs / Geno doing the play by play in Toronto for all home games / and then some

I don't see how the Marner trade is close. Obviously Toronto needs cap space but not that bad. I think if you take of the first from Toronto, you might at least get the ball rolling. I think Pittsburgh might need to send Murray to Pittsburgh in that deal and ask for Andersen back. Maybe like this

Pit receives: Marner with no retention and Andersen with no retention
Tor receives: Rust, Petterson, Murray, Simon, and the Minnesota pick

Wow! I'm shocked to see such trade by a Leafs fan. I love Rust. He's a player which ALWAYS give 100%, specially in playoffs and he's very good on both sides. But in your trade you made him looks like a Kucherov, Pastrnak or something. As a Pens fan, I'll be enjoying this trade for my entire life. But it's much more likely to see Detroit Red Wings winning next season SC than make this trade happen. Unfortunately. @mhockey91 question makes much sense. Why do you hate Marner that much? Lol

I don’t see why the deal is awful. I’m a Leaf fan too & I’d do it. Rust & Marner are on a similar level, plus you save cap. Pettersson is a solid top 4 two way D, he goes for a 1st.

Thanks for the feedback. I think you are undervaluing Rust & Pettersson. Basically a top 6 Forward in excellent contract & a top 4 D for an expensive top line forward. Toronto would do it for the cap savings.

Thanks for the feedback, I think the trade is close value wise. Leafs get two good players for an elite player, but they save cap which is the most important gain for them in this trade.

of course you dont see why. You make it clear right here. You just said marner and rust were on a similar level. That's just wacky and not true at all, rust isnt even on the same planet as Marner. and your obsession with cap space as a substitute for actual value is near clinical.
Oh and petterson isnt worth a 1st on his own, hes basically the Pens version of Dermott. Unless you think Dermott is worth a 1st.
