Then let me give you the benefit of hindsight: college's value isn't in education by facts; college is for education by experience. Mainly, the education of contact with all sorts of people, many of whom are from entirely different backgrounds. (The French word etranger is perfect there, because it has connotations much deeper than "different.") Look forward to it with anticipation -- they'll be the best four years of your life.

I like that use of the term étranger! and yes I have yet to find the equivalent word in english. Different and étranger don't have the same semantic value, which is one of the few things I remember from my lexicolgy class.
