Description
Sign Danault to the deal he wants as soon as possible. Keep him for a cup run and promise him he'll get traded this summer to a team where he'll be a top 6 C for years to come.

The trades below are just to illustrate what his value could be this summer. I consider him to be as valuable as Patch when he got trade. So a top prospect would be the ask from MB imo especially considering the extension.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Boldy, Matthew [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Big and skilled top 6 LW to replace Tatar down the road
MIN
    Danault at 5,5m X 5y
    2.
    MTL
    1. Lundkvist, Nils [Reserve List]
    2. 2021 4th round pick (OTT)
    3. 2022 2nd round pick (NYR)
    NYR
    3.
    MTL
    1. 2021 1st round pick (MIN)
    Additional Details:
Or a top 12 pick (PIT or MIN). Draft a guy like Ceulemans (RHD) or Eklund (LW).
    MIN
I really see Minny as a great landing spot for Danault.

Why does Danualt sign an extension just to be traded and make the team he's traded to worse in the process? He'll be a UFA and go can anywhere he wants.

How about not a chance from Minnesota. Minnesota can sign him in free agency @math731

      Beckman, yes.

      Boldy, no.

Would you give up Caufield up for Danault? I don't think so.

MIN declines. A pending UFA does not have this kind of value, and since his re-signing is all but guaranteed it can't be added as a factor to bring in value.

MTL should keep him for their playoff run, and then try to re-sign him in summer. Or let him walk. They shouldn't trade him, too important guy for now.

Didn’t he supposedly turn down 6x6? This is a great idea for Montreal but why does Danault just sign where he wants as a UFA while letting them keep their picks/prospects? You can trade his rights but you’re not getting much for it, let alone a top prospect.

Better idea: Trade Tomas Tatar (extension included) to NYR for Nils Lundkvist+. I'm not sure of Lundkvist's current value, I'm assuming mid 1st value but he fits perfectly into Montreal's future system. I think Tatar may fit the Rangers future system and could give them leverage to trade Buchnevich (or as a replacement if they lose him).

Because otherwise, hes getting traded at the TDL to a lesser team and misses his chance to win a cup this year with the habs.

So NYR sends a great D prospect who is probably NHL ready and some picks for what?? Shows nothing so I assume this is an error

No, I wrote in the description that hed sign first with MTL in order to keep him for the playoffs (and not losing him for nothing this summer or trading him at the TDL). In other words, MB would sign him to a great deal (5,5m for 5 years) next week and then trade him this summer.

Yeah, this is an hypothetical scenario in which he agrees to a contract he likes here before the TDL, so we can keep him for a playoff run and also trade him this summer...

Seems complicated. Is there a precedent to this?

And regardless the value is off.

If we were in need of a great top 6 C? Sure especially with your deep pool of prospect and with the fact that you're already deep on the W.

Got it, NYR would say no. We would be looking for an elite 2C if we address the C

That or hes getting traded at the TDL and miss on a stanley cup with the team of his childhood. MB wouldnt have to tell him... Just sign him then trade him the next summer.

These 3 trades are just different ideas for a trade involving Danault. So from MIN, it would be either one of the 2 trades for Danault signed
