is there a second part to the trade? It will take more than Liljegren to get him. The coyotes will get a decent size haul of futures or cost controlled assets for him

No.

Garland is due for at least a 500% pay raise. He’s not getting it from the Leafs.

The Leafs should keep their young d man rather than add yet another top 6 forward.

I’m also not completely sold on Garland and honestly wouldn’t give up even Liljegren for him, that part is just me though.

As a leafs fan this is crazy.

the yotes wouldnt let go of one of their top forwards in exchange for a prospect who should have made it by now..

Also as a leafs fan, why would you give up a RHD prospect for a guy you would likely have to pay $3-4M next year.. I mean, ya they should but this trade doesnt make much sense for anyone.

Probably isn't enough.
Besides, the cap doesn't work. It makes more sense to do Nylander for Garland plus. Heck even Rielly for Garland, but in that case you can probably say good bye to Hyman.

Garland plays a game similar to Hyman, but also can finish a bit better than Hyman. I feel like having him in our top 6 would be incredible but as you mentioned, with what $ would we re-sign him with and also with what 1st round pick would we add to this to get him?

Could you imagine a top 6 of

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Garland - Tavares - Nylander

wet dream material right there, but sadly only in a no-cap world...

heres the funny thing

Garland almost came to the leafs at the deadline before Dubas traded for Foligno

only issue was Coyotes wanted a kings ransom for him (like Robertson, Sandin, and another good prospect would have been gone)

yeah u right

better to look at the report Friedman sent out as yes Garland at the deadline almost happened

but from what Friedman mentioned Coyotes wanted a kings ransom for him

reports were Robertson + Sandin, another good prospect and a 1st) to risky

Dubas was tempted but here would have been the issue

Garland rn is making 775k and currently has 32 points with the coyotes (10 goals and 22 assists) u got to think with the leafs he would probs reach 50 points or something being with Matthews and Marner or Tavares and Nylander. So that next contract would not have been cheap and rn leafs got to focus on resigning Hyman, Simmonds, potentially Anderson among others

so in truth I would rather slightly overpay in a trade for rental foligno than go through the mess of trading for than signing Garland. Also Foligno brings more to the table so in my eyes the trade was worth it and seeing him happy has been a joy to watch

Robertson, Sandin and 3rd piece sounds about right for Garland.
He is criminally underrated around here.

no no it was Robertson, Sandin, another good prospect (so Liligren, Niemela, Hallander,or Hirovinen) and a 1st so basically implying Garland was worth a 1st and 3 A prospects which basically are equivalent to 1sts so overall Garland being worth 4 1sts is absurd. Robertson + Sandin would have been more than fair. Hes a 30 point wing with potential but 3-4 1st (equivalents + pick) would have been a yikes

Robertson + Sandin + (lesser piece) sounds about right.
With lesser piece being an extra roster player or mid-pick or similar.
