Rebuild

Created by: vols94
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2021
Published: May 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Start over in goal buyout Jones. Rebuild center depth. SJ best teams had multiple center options. Trade Hertl now since he is a valuable asset and does not fit our time line. EK65 and Vlasic are sunk costs. Kane too many off the ice issues. Couture I cant find a fit for his contract. Gives SJ some mid round pick depth to move up on the draft floor.

Its not pretty and this is a multi year rebuild but a tear down is not possible in SJ. The Season Ticket base would walk away and it would take years to rebuild that is why DW takes about resets.

Call me crazy and I know this wouldn’t happen but in the mandate to compete if the Rangers managed to trade for Couture, I’d actually prefer him over trading for Eichel. While older, he’s a seriously big time playoff performer and he could truly excel in New York in a split situation with Mika. It wouldn’t happen, but if it did I’m assuming it’d mean a full rebuild in San Jose and quite a few future assets heading your way.

I am not sure SJ will get a much for Hertl as we may think. I dont think DW is looking for a pile of picks and they can't really give Hertl a raise in 2 yrs and the inevitable NTC with the other contracts. Hertl, Meier or Lebanc would need to be moved in order to significantly help the depth of this team.

I am not against moving Couture but I think his is the one long term deal DW is not interested in moving. i think he would be a good fit in NY but it would take a new GM to move him.

You can't protect him in the expansion draft. He could be starter for Seattle and you lose him for nothing.

Yeah I gotcha. I know other Rangers fans will call me crazy cause he’s older, but Hertl or Couture could be perfect for us.

Hertl can get much more than this...

Labanc and/or Meier will be moved long before DW lets Hertl walk, he is the best player on the team.

Why buyout Jones if you are rebuilding? He is you ticket to high picks?

Oilers trade is odd. Kahun is a 3LW, Oil were desperate for a 3C all year and he never got a look. Not sure why you want to swap Neal for Burns, surely Burns has actual value and you could get a decent return for him from the right team.

Doubt Wilson wants to move couture, but I would be all over that to be honest with you. Problem is his NTC to be honest, but for the right price sign me up!

If we trade you Allen we 1. lose Allen 2. Lose another player to Seattle lol doesn’t make senses

Burns is 36. He’s signed for another 4 years. He scored 29 points this season - a huge drop off from the 45 he got in 19/20. And he makes 8M a season. Not a lot to like here.

Oilers wouldn’t even consider that for the slightest min, Neal as two yrs not convinced the oilers don’t wait till next Summer to buy him out 2 yrs instead of 4 yrs on the books a 36 yr old Burns at 8 mil no thanks

The idea behind the burns trade is very reasonable but I think you would have to add Kassian to fully make the $ side of it work given his advanced age
