Gross, Detroit isn't trading one of their few decent D (and retaining) for a dime a dozen prospect and a measly 3rd

I agree Detroit needs Stecher a lot more than a goalie prospect that is a couple of years away from being NHL ready. Which isn't a guarantee he might never make it out of the AHL.

Swapped 3rd to a 2nd and lowered retention. Justification is red wings need to expand their goalie pipeline and Stecher may not be apart of their long term future, and have no shortage of cap space. Blues have three solid goalie prospects so they are comfortable trading one.

I get that but goalies are really hard to predict. There are a lot of players that had success in the CHL and were unable to translate that into NHL success.

I think it's more wanting to keep Stecher and less about the return. Changing it to a 2nd I think at that point you have to say ok but there is no way STL offers that for Stecher. Since we have moved from reality and into hypothetical why not just trade Dunn for Stecher?

I wouldn't trade Colten Ellis. He's a beast. I also don't see the point in Strome for the Blues.

To be fair, Detroit's goalie pipeline isn't exactly bare, it lacks a high quality prospect. Stetcher could definitely be moved at the deadline though.
Yzerman's valuation of goalies is crazy difficult to predict, so I'm not sure if he'd bite on this deal in particular.
