We aren't trading Tkachuk unless we get a 1c back sorry.

Why would you want Tkachuk if he's just going to go to arbitration for a 1 year deal to UFA in Buffalo?

Just a debate for BUF fans. If the 1st overall is Powers, should they trade the pick?

I just don't see how Power makes this a better team. He's big, not the fastest Dman, and he has some physicality but they have 2 of that already in their top 4 and frankly defensemen are kind of hit or miss and typically slow to make an impact especially at 18.
Beniers would be a nice pick he's probably gone at 2. I doubt Seattle makes a deal as they will have more than enough adequate Dmen. So the question lies in how to move down and with whom.

Reinhart is good but he's not worth Zegras and the 3rd pick even if it's in a bad draft

He is under team control for 3 years. The Sabres would match whatever an arbitor awarded and take it for the 2 years after this year if he didn't want to sign a long term deal. Obviously if they believe he will walk after the 3 years they would trade him prior to him becoming ufa and get quality assets back

No, since he will be in his final year of restricted free agency he can only be awarded 1 year of term in arbitration

That still gives them 2 seasons and then they can flip him for assets if he doesn't want to resign

That’s not 5 1sts LOL Larsson and Thompson may have been drafted in the 1st round but they no longer have CLOSE to that kind of value. They are a 3rd pair D and 4th liner at best, respectively. They have next to no value, you could literally take them out of the deal and nobody would notice or care. And Kaliyev was a recent 2nd. Tkachuk is worth far more than this in futures, but he’s not getting traded for futures. Or at all unless a top 10 C is coming back.

I guess but you loose a lot of value if he doesnt want to resign. Flames dont want to trade Tkachuk anyways. At least not for anything less than a deal around Eichel

They may not want to trade him but they are likely in a similar position to Buffalo if they keep him where he will want out in 2 years

Not really, people aren't trying to force their way out of Calgary and they are likely making the playoffs next year

It will likely be as 7 or 8 seed and another first round exit so not necessarily appealing for him to stay in a small market that has never got past the first round of the playoffs in his career and is in high tax Canada. I am sure it would be quite appealing to go to a stronger contender in a tax haven and a bigger market. Perhaps Florida, Vegas or Dallas

Alberta has lower tax than most states in the US... especially since conversion rate favors them

There are only 4 US markets he would be taxed more in. The California teams and Minnesota. The 3 US markets I mentioned he would make close to 700k more per year American on his current deal

You aren't accounting for USD to CAD conversion rate, players on Canadian teams are still paid in USD

You are assuming he would rather live in Calgary year round rather than elsewhere. The cost of living is extremely low in Buffalo as compared to other markets but that doesn't mean that all of their players want to leave herewhere their dollar does go further

NY State has worst tax climate in US.
Thousands are leaving, state spending rising.

I'm not assuming anything, you are the one bringing in living conditions into this. He wont resign with Buffalo because they are rebuilding

We wouldn't trade the third overall selection in this draft for Reinhart and Olofsson. But Los Angeles might trade the eighth overall selection for them. They need Reinhart more than they need Eichel. But you'd have to add because Reinhart is a rental.
