12th, behind 11th place Tampa - which loved their late draft selections (like Dylan Duke falling miles) (it does not love Hughes compared to other available selections)

Im guessing the Stillman pick dropped them alot

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has issued qualifying offers for the following players, thus retaining their negotiating rights:

PLAYER - POSITION
Nick Caamano - RW
Joseph Cecconi - D
Ben Gleason - D
Joel Kiviranta - LW
Adam Mascherin - LW
Colton Point - G
Jerad Rosburg - D

The following players were not issued qualifying offers and will become unrestricted free agents on July 28:

PLAYER - POSITION
Julius Honka - D

This was 100% expected.

What are your thoughts on Caamano and Cecconi?

Caamano is a great young checking forward, and Cecconi is a good young defensive defender. Both are going to be great in the AHL.

Interesting notes :

BEST DRAFT DAYS =
The San Jose Sharks were ranked 1st in the entire 2021 NHL Entry Draft review by TopDownHockey using qualitative and performance statistical rankings/ projections.

This was obviously HEAVILY inflated by the selection of Eklund but grabs like Gaudreau (imo) and Cardwell were beneficial.

Obviously the charts and what not are ranking teams objectively but subjectively it’s hard to argue they didn’t have a clean draft day. Imo I think Columbus had the best draft day (they ranked 4th).

WORST DRAFT DAYS =
Worst draft days according to the models were Vegas and Vancouver. But subjectively that’s gonna be Montreal and Edmonton for me.

Where was Chicago?

So Foligno and the leaf's are talking. 1-2 year contract could be given at around 2.5mill per sources.

Honestly if they get him at that price and he stays healthy I don't see any harm in doing so. He played well with Matthews and Marner and is a good net front presence and enforcer.

Bogosian decided to leave citing the border uncertainty. Fully respect that

Freddie has not been offered a contract (YET) but with the Foligno news probs see it tomorrow as Dubas is probs going in the order of

1. Foligno, 2. Freddie, 3. Everyone else

The Allan selection was BRUTAL according to the models. It hated it (so did most people lol). They ranked 23rd.

However the Colton Dach pick was a great selection and it believed it was a better pick than the other “family ties” picks as the model disliked the Doan, Hughes selections. Without the Dach pick Chicago would have been much lower.

Jaros isn't good but I rather have him over Merkley

Plus Merkley went unclaimed om waivers. So basically Jaros for free

Didn’t Caamano play a decent amount in the NHL last year?

Jaros also went unclaimed last year. He just signed a one-year deal as I'm writing this.

For the fun of it: Top 20 D-men in the league right now, IMO:
1) Victor Hedman (Period. This is a fact.)
2) Jaccob Slavin (I will defend this tooth and nail. He's elite as they come, takes practically 0 penalties (1 in 52 games!!!), had a +/- of 22, and gets practically all of his points at even strength. He's a freaking beast.)
3) Roman Josi (He slipped just a bit this year, but even then still was terrific. He's a Norris candidate almost every year)
4) Cale Makar (I think he's somewhat of a beneficiary from playing with MacKinnon and Co. so often, but he's still fantastic)
5) Dougie Hamilton
6) Alex Pietrangelo
7) Charlie McAvoy
8) John Carlson
9) Adam Fox
10) Kris Letang
11) Shea Theodore
12) Jonas Brodin
13) Jakob Chychrun
14) Mark Giordano
15) Miro Heiskanen
16) Jeff Petry
17) John Klinberg
18) Morgan Reilly
19) Aaron Ekblad
20) Thomas Chabot
Just missed: Brett Pesce (SO underrated)

Also, is it just me that feels like guys like Doughty, Burns, and (Erik) Karlsson are no longer top 20 D-men? They score a lot of points, but don't provide great defense (their main job, last time I checked), take too many penalties, and take up a ton of cap space besides.

@Dzinger18 wouldn’t it be funny if you guys signed Honka to get another Finnish player and to create another family reunion.

I’d bump Petro over Hamilton and slide Josi between them. I also like Chabot more than Rielly. And Gio can probably be dropped significantly lower, he took a slight step back this year and is 37.

That's true, I put Giordano too high. I'll revise it.
