Saskatchewan was the best part do colour in Canada maps in school. So rectangularly satisfying. The worst was Nunavut by far, I still have PTSD

Nunavut alone probably took as much time to colour as the rest of Canada. The pain.

There a shirt that I've seen people wear that says

Saskatchewan: hard to spell, easy to draw.

Manhattan isn't an island

Believe it or not, it is. Surprising, but true. EDIT: Turns out I'm late to the party on this one and it's already been broken down (mostly surrounded by water but partially connected to mainland) so never mind

Hamilton is just a collection of factories and smog masquerading as a city.

So basically Saint-John NB.

I know literally NOTHING about Canadian geography except for NHL teams, and even then I embarrass myself-I get Ottawa and Ontario confused all the time, I literally just had to do a web search to find out which one is the province and which the (capital) city

Best was by far PEI just draw a strip and done, I agree Nunavut was a pain in the @ss and so was NWT. Imagine when they were combined, kids before 1999 were probably like 😭🔫.

I didn’t but apparently they did, i just had to remember the layout of Canada, so provinces, territories, lakes, rivers and capitals

Just colour them in. And memorize the names of the provinces/territories and their capital cities. Although there are only 27 things to remember there, so I’m sure it’s more difficult for the US.

I mean if I weren’t a hockey fan, I probably couldn’t tell you where any state was other than Florida, Texas, and California. And Michigan, because it borders on Lake Michigan.

Also I don’t think I can name any American cities that haven’t been the location of a pro hockey (or OHL) team at some point.

Edit: I also found out that Arizona, Colorado, and Carolina aren’t cities in the last 5 years.

WHAT?! Wow...though I guess I shouldn't act so surprised, if I can't even get the capital city of your country right, why should Canadiens know which teams are states and which are cities?
BTW, who's the new profile pic?

Ya, to be fair, a lot of my American geography is from sports.

Though I do know Washington D.C. is the Capital, and Washington is a state (one that has Seattle) lol.

The only reason I know every damn town in Ontario and western Canada is because of the OHL and WHL lmao

Also on the topic of Saskatchewan getting a team, I’m sure they could sustain a team there (especially because the SaskTel Centre only seats just over 15k, about the same as the Jets), it’s not like there’s anything else to do in Saskatchewan lol. They’d probably pack the arena every night, although they do only have a third the population of Winnipeg. They’d probably still lose money but at least they’d have fans in the stands.

My order for new teams would be Houston, Quebec City, Kansas City, Saskatoon, Milwaukee, Hartford, Hamilton, and then another team because 40 is a nice number, probably switch to 8 divisions of 5 at that point. Idk where I’d put the 40th team. Could put a 2nd team in Toronto or Montreal, or maybe one in Minneapolis (the Wild play in St. Paul and I know they’re the twin cities but it’s one of the biggest hockey markets in the USA). Maybe a city like Halifax, London (willing to accept London over Hamilton too tbh, it’s slightly further from Toronto and Buffalo), or OKC. If hockey in Texas takes off after adding Houston you could even throw a team in San Antonio or Austin, but that might be pushing it. Or Atlanta again lol, 3rd time’s the charm.

Am I the only one who thinks the Avalanche got worse?

Their contract efficiency is still ranked first in the league. They still have their elite and underpaid core in MacKinnon, Rantanen, Makar, Landeskog, Toews and Girard, but whether it's because of bad luck or not, the team has never made it past the 2nd round with better complementary players. This offseason, they lost Saad and Donskoi upfront with no direct replacement aside from banking on Newhook to assume top-six duties. Their 4th line is actually good though, with Maltsev, Helm, and O'Connor all being pretty good at defense. They also lost Graves, replacing him with a worse and more erratic Ryan Murray, although the gap could be filled by Byram at some point. They lost a cheap, solid, NHL-ready RHD in Timmins, along with a 1st round pick, for an equivalent goaltender at best.

The older I get, the more I’m noticing success comes not from skill, but from chemistry, the drive to win, and humility. Don’t get me wrong! Skill plays a huge part, you’re not gonna win icing bottom 6 guys.

But look, MTL was a ragtag bunch of meh players, a few stars but nothing too great, they weren’t horrible but they won. Why? Because they all gelled, had great chemistry as a team, wanted to win, had intense work ethic, and sacrificed personal gain for collective gain. Any team who figures that out can win

Unfortunately, Colorado and Toronto haven’t yet, hopefully soon. The captains of these teams can learn a lesson from guy like Sid, who could always bring a team together and get every guy to give their all

Its big enough yes

They had one before but that was a long time ago (1925 Hamilton Tigers)

They first tried in 1990 to get a new NHL team but Ottawa and Tampa were favored. People speculated Toronto and Buffalo was the cause but that's been proven untrue

They then tried again in 2008 with the Phoenix Coyotes and 2010 with the Thrashers but both attempts were unsuccessful.

Rn if we look at expansion cities who will get an NHL team in order

1. Houston
2. Kansas City
3. Quebec City
4. Hartford (apparently the potential market is now enormous)
5. Saskatoon (has a building ready)
6. Hamilton

IMO Hamilton isnt big enough itself, but remember you’d draw fans from all around (London, Kitchener, Niagara) and if they priced their tix like Ottawa, they’d draw in even more people, like me, who just isn’t paying $200 for standing room seats

They would force the leafs to price competitively and be good to have to sell seats
