Detroit will take Ghost's contract off your books, but that's a lot of money left. I think the sweetener probably needs to be more.

Vegas won't be giving up all that for one year of Couturier, and neither should the Flyers give up all that for one year of Jones.

Jones would not be the hero to the problems. He is extremely overrated and would be a huge overpay. Also Vegas rejects trade

I personally think Jones is a top pairing RHD. Vegas needs a 1C, gonna cost them a lot to get it. Fleury doesn't have to be part of the deal but figured they're gonna try to move him and probably won't get anything in return even though he's been great this season.

Jones is simultaneously the most underrated and overrated D in the league depending on who you ask these days. But fact of the matter is this - he’s a Top Pair RHD.

And from the sounds of it, *somebody* is going to overpay for him. If he comes with an extension that jacks up the return, I’m all for it.

Also, CBJ would want Frost. If you’re getting 8 years of Jones, I think it’s justified.

I'd move Frost if I'm Philly. Not sure I would simply add him to this deal but could definitely be some back and forth around a similar framework.

100% agree with your Jones take.

Add him and Ghost to the CBJ trade. PHI gets to dump him, CBJ get a reclamation project.

Two top prospects, a 1st, and two (affordable) roster players? I think that’s a pretty good return for CBJ.

Detroit will be happy to take Ghost off your hands but it is two years and a lot of $$ (3 times as much as Staal was) so the sweetener should be better. If you add a 2nd it's a deal.

From a cap hit, yeah, but in real money he’s making $3.25M per. If this trade happens after the start of the league year, PHI is responsible for this season’s signing bonus, so it’s then $4.25M *total.*

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think Detroit should touch Ghost with a 50 foot pole being held by one of their enemies in a HAZMAT suit.
The guy hasn't eclipsed 40 points in 3 seasons and can't defend the broadside of a barn from a wet paper bag that's riveted to a concrete slab. Unless Blashill changes his coaching style and overcomes his allergy to offense, Ghost would be absolutely brutal on Detroit.

Jones this year came I believe dead last in WAR. Just watching hi m he gets constantly hemmed in the zone. He doesn't carry offence and he isn't great defensively. He has lots of skill but doesn't play like he has the amount he has and he struggles because of it. Even if you don't believe in advanced stats, the fact he came last in one of the most useful advanced stats is quite concerning isn;'t it (if it helps prove they are helpful, Mcdavid came first by a long shot in it)

I'm a big fan of advanced stats and think they're extremely useful tools but they don't tell the whole picture yet. If you look at Jones microstats like zone entries and exits he is among the best in the league at transitioning the play. For most players you can find stats that make them look terrible and stats that make them look great it all depends on what you're looking for.

He’s also 26 and is, what, two years removed from a Top-5 Norris finish?

He’s much better than those stats show, coming from someone who has watched damn near every game he has played since he got here. Is he $9M+ per year good? Ehhhh…

And I mean, McDavid being top WAR doesn’t prove much to me. Cause I mean, no **** he would be?

The Mcdavid thing I like to bring up because some people, not you, but some say they don't mean anyhting and that they are random, when they obviously aren't. Jones is definetely better than the stats show, but what they do show is that a) he is not an elite defenceman in the NHL. Not really close. I wlll cut him some slack tho, because he is skilled. b) shows hes not fit for a role where he plays big mins against top competetion. He needs sheltered second pair minutes to truly succeed, which he wouldn't get here in Philly

They’re not random, no, and I don’t dispute Jones had a hellish year. I give those stats their due weight.

It just gets frustrating to hear the advanced stats being wantonly throw around so people can say “Jones sucks so we don’t have to pay so he’s not worth more than a 2nd” or what have you.

Analytics or not, I guarantee there are 31 teams who would kill to have him on their top line.
