Full NMC are a little dangerous, but that's the price you pay to keep his cap low in a flat cap world.

On that money you are looking at 6.8 mil on a 6 year deal. Sounds more reasonable.

I think it's a good signing. He is one of the view solid skill guys and 5 million is a nice cap hit.

Must have figured the short term UFA market was going to be depressed by the cap freeze and traded a lower AAV in the 1st 4 years, for likely higher aav the last 4 and a full NMC. Maybe cost himself a few bucks, but locked in for 40 million and can go where he pleases.

I'd have to slightly disagree, would they have liked less term-absolutely, but I see this deal as being similar to the one Oshie has in Washington(although he signed his when he was 30 for 8 years), very serviceable/ solid player playing into their mid 30's(he'll be 36 when the deal expires).. Plus it's Edmonton, they need to do something a little extra because of the weather and such....

you dont wait because Seattle could throw him 7-8 Mill over 6-8 years thats hard for anyone to pass on.

its not chump change but definitely less than what he could have got if he went to market. Yes the NMC helps keep that down. He has said he wants to retire an oiler.

Reserving judgement until we see if the NMC actually applies to all 8 years or not. The Rishaug tweet says nothing about "full" NMC, that's your wording.
