Eichel to WPG

Created by: tsyls

Description
Saw this trade posted in another thread that was liked by Jets fans, and then again in another thread where people thought the Jets would be dumb to make this move. I think the Jets win this trade for sure, but that’s just me. Maybe I’m just too high on Eichel.

Also I know Buffalo is looking for mainly futures, but I was just expanding on a trade I had seen from Winnipeg’s perspective.

I added beaulieu to Buffalo to help with cap, also had to move DeMelo to sort out the cap. Ideally I’d like a different backup, but with cap restrictions there aren’t many options.

Yeah it’s highly likely, maybe Dillon and pionk become the first pair. With Morrissey slipping a bit over the past year or two, I could see them transitioning to Dillon and Pionk as the first pair.

Schmidt talked about how he had some conversations about playing with Morrissey, or playing with pionk. So with that in mind the top 4 will either be

Dillon - Pionk
Morrissey - Schmidt

Or

Dillon - Morrissey
Schmidt - Pionk

I mean, Berdin has starter potential IMO, and Copp can slot into buffalos top 6. Just berdin is stuck behind hellebuyck in Winnipeg, and Copp likely has priced himself out of Winnipeg.

For me that's just way too much to give up for an expensive player, with an injury that raises concerns for the rest of his career and hasn't proven yet to be worth his contact. The Jets are better off with Dubois and the cap space, at least for me.

Copp would take his arb award and walk to UFA and I here you about Berlin, but I really don’t think a goalie prospect does much. If Copp needs to go for cap reasons, sure. But it’s still not that enticing as a 3rd party.

Considering what went down with Columbus, I don't think PLD can be the main piece for Buffalo. Maybe get another team (one that would be interested in landing PLD) involved. Bruins maybe? Avs?

Idk, just throwing thoughts out.

You’re totally right I was just seeing what this package looked like from a Jets perspective.

Apparently Copp just wants to play in a US market close to home. Buffalo fits the bill, he wants top 6 time too, which he’ll get in Buffalo. 100% think he’d actually sign long term there.

But I do get what you’re saying, and it’s likely berdin doesn’t do much for Buffalo.

Copp gets a one year deal in arbitration. Beaulieu has one year and is a LHD. Berdin would be UPL back up next year. Landmark is signed and a RHD. Not horrible but not a piece Sabres need. A decent Winnipeg team makes the playoffs and the 1st is an okay asset.

The good news is, according to this lineup, the Sabres get Thompson back on waivers.

Not what the Sabres are really looking for. Give in to Eichel. Let him have his surgery. Let him play healthy and trade him later...

Yeah no I get that perspective as well. Dubois and the cap space might be better, along with keeping berdin, lundmark and the picks. I think the injury is overblown. The Artificial Disk Replacement seems to be very very effective and a short recovery period too. So I’m not overly concerned about the injury. When Eichel is healthy he’s a top 10 C IMO. So I’m looking at this in terms of having 2 top 15 centres on the team. IMO this pushes the Jets over the hump but I also get the concern with cap.

Copp wants to be in a US market close to home where he can play in the top 6. Buffalo seems to fit that bill, but I also do understand your other points. Which in my description I eluded to by saying Buffalo likely wants an all futures package.

I can understand that, my worry is always what if it doesn't work. Fun to talk about though.

Pretty sure Columbus isn’t giving up a 2nd for DeMelo… they a as RW rebuilding, adding DeMelo for like a 4th sure, but not a 2nd.

Dubois and a 1st is a great baseline for an Eichel deal IMO, aside from Dubois not being locked up long term. I think the edges need to be rounded out though.

Yeah, I more so just used CBJ as an example, could be any team needing 2nd pairing RD help.

It would be a nice kick in the crotch to Dubois to get traded to Buffalo for Eichel.

I'd prefer your Dillon-Pionk combination as the first pairing and Morrissey - Schmidt on the second. The second combination of playing Morrissey and Schmidt on their non-preferred sides feels like an accident waiting to happen.
