He basically has a full NNTC, 3 Team trade list.

So what about coming to montreal is tempting for him to waive

That's a nice package for Hertl, who would certainly fill the empty spot left by Kotkaniemi (at least for this season), but you can't make picks conditional upon a player signing a new contract any more.

You seriously think someone in his right mind would prefer to spend one year in San Jose rather than in the Mecca of the hockey universe? Where he could showcase his talents in search of getting a big payday? Is the sun over the yardarm where you are?

Yes... bc not all players give a crap about playing in Canada, or they dont believe in montreal for an example, especially with no Weber, Price "injured" etc.

You can't have picks conditional on a player re-signing.

I think Europeans are neutral about Canada; it's only some people south of the border who aren't enamored of the Great North.

I think Hertl would jump at the chance to be one of the big stars in Quebec.

1. That is too much IMO to give up for one year of Hertl.
2. you can not make picks conditional on a player resigning, however there is nowhere that says you can not make the trade with future considerations, then if the player resigns send a pick. Just a technical loop hole but one I am sure a GM could use to get around the conditional pick BS.
3. Hertl is only a slight upgrade on KK so why not keep the picks and prospects and just match the OS seeing as the difference is only 1 mil both now and on the QO?

I wouldnt say that either bc players like LA, Florida etc not just bc of the weather, they like being unrecognizable, able to live their lives and not be under the constant negativity that is Montreal media.

This is a bad take. Players often turn down Canadian offers for tax reasons. Additionally, many players hate being bombarded with media (Vlasic on SJ literally from MTL said he'd never play there).

He's getting a large pay day regardless as well.

Regardless, it sounds like he'd rather be anywhere than around Evander Kane, understandably, so he could waive his NTC

It truly is one of the more arrogant and shortsighted quotes on Capfriendly. Players love SJ because they are not under the immense scrutiny 24/7. There are 3 beat writers covering SJ and they're all pretty chill.

If Bergevin thinks he can extend Hertl, I pay that package for him because he's a HUGE upgrade on KK. The issue is how to resign him + Suzuki

My guess is that the 3 teams on Hertl NTC are Boston, NYR and ANA.

I gotta go with @coga16 on this one. Montreal is not a sexy destination for a guy who played his whole career in California...

I think Pittsburgh might be a wild card. He is from the same town as Jagr and would have watched him on the Pens growing up. I was curious and googled what his favorite team was, couldnt find that but did say the Pens was his favorite jersey growing up.

Easily could see him wanting to play on the Pens like his idol Jagr

I guess "the sun over the yardarm" reference is too obscure . . .

I was trying to tweak @coga16 about imbibing early.

I bad I only looked at his points over his career and forgot to adjust last year and the year before for the shortened season. I should have said what KK likely becomes in the near future.

It's good lol. KK could still pan out well, but it's just a bit scarier with him cause he hasn't shown signs of real progress yet. But I get what you're saying.
