I know but if he refuses an 8 x 8, not more you can do. 3 years is out of the question, you don’t want a repeat of the Stone situation .

There’s no way Dorion hasn’t offered him anything. Also it’s a tricky contract , because based on production he comes around 6 mill longterm but he brings leadership and intangibles , so how much are u paying for that?

Good question. I’m not sure if there’s something I’d really want.

He should get the same deal as his brother

      As for the offers

No he shouldn’t. Matthew had a 77pt season when he signed that deal, Brady hasn’t come close. Also 3 years would be a repeat of the Stone deal and if he doesn’t like it, he can take the qualifying offer and walk himself to free agency. That’s bad asset management. It’s 2 year bridge or 7-8 year longterm. If he doesn’t budge , you trade him, I don’t care

8.5m for 8 should do it. and yes it feels like an overpayment for his production, but imo he ll get better at scoring and will keep up the physical play for the lenght of that contract and then some

I’d give him an 8 x 8, nothing more. If he’s dead set on a 3 year deal, then he’s out. He’s not getting a 3 year deal

I’m not debating his greatness. I’m debating his willingness to sign longterm. Apparently he’s skeptical and wants the team to prove they’re trying to compete soon

That depends on two things. Him not becoming a piss baby like his brother and him staying in ottawa. I have doubts on both.

A captain should be a class act guy. A natural leader.

If he took an 8 x 8 , he’d be the captain already. But I’m skeptical he wants anything but a bridge and then hold the team hostage on his way to walking himself to free agency and getting a massive deal in 3 years

I’m thinking Matthew type deal. Now the new moa provides a bit of help with the 120% of the aav QO but I think that’s what Brady shoots for. 3 years with a big QO he can sign and walk ufa.

I think we need to stop demonizing guys for not wanting to sign till the end of their damn career with one team. It’s literally their right to do so. If it happened to the Rangers I wouldn’t be happy, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to control where you play and how much you make it you can. They don’t owe anyone anything.

Wild fan here and this sounds like the Kaprizov discussion. When it’s all said and done, you sign him. A bridge could suck in 3 years but if that’s all he’ll sign then you have to do it. The kid is good and he knows he’s got leverage.

For me, I wouldn't want the Devils to trade for Brady. Would cost a lot (like Holtz and then some) and I'm seemingly not rating him as highly as the rest of the community here.
Not sure I'd do Holtz for Tkachuk one for one tbh but what do I know?

It's not in his best interest to sign long term. It makes sense for him to want to see that the team is on the upswing and willing to make the financial commitments necessary to support that. From an individual perspective as well, taking the team factor out of it, he probably shouldn't sign a long term deal based on his results. He leads the league over the last two years in individual high danger chances and xGoals (both 5v5 and all situations), but the production doesn't reflect that. Seems on the precipice of an explosion. Short term is the way I'd go if I were him.

In 3 years , you’re hoping the team would be competing. You don’t want a player with leverage to be a distraction and threaten to leave in free agency. Also him being an RFA in 3 years would technically become a rental if he takes the QO and would lower his value tremendously. Doesn’t sound like a good idea . 2 year deal or 7-8. Otherwise trade him

2-3 year bridge could make for a massive payday down the line.
