Team Explanation
Hertl has made it clear he is displeased with sharks and their actions to handle kane's situations, he also announced that he is in no rush to decide on a contract extension now if im a sharks fans this would worry me and before you compare it to bergy's situation they are completely different. Boston is all in and i guarantee you if bruins win the cup he will retire but if they don't he comes back for another push he's also 36, in hertl's situation hes only 28, san jose has been on massive decline and with couture, burns, karlson and valsic's large and close to un-movable cap hits the odds they could build a winning roster around him are close to impossible. So san jose do you think a player whos heading into his prime and is about to become a ufa will resign to a team that is gonna be a bottom 6 team for the next few years i think NO. so explain to me why you believe you could pry a team of their best prospect, a top young forwards and a first round pick that makes literally no sense when a team can take their chances of signing him in ufa. Now here is where sharks fan will say well we are in control and we won't take an offer that's worth less then his full value. Well unfortunately you don't have control at this rate it will be almost guaranteed by TDL Hertl won't be returning so the odds of you getting the best package for him will be very low. Now to the trade Debusk, beecher a 1st more and 3rd is almsot equivalent to the value of 3 1sts, idc what people think but debrusk is still a skilled young forward one bad season does not define a players a career, but it comparison to other forwards eichel for ex. his trade value is that of 4 first round quality players and picks, but the thing with eichel is buffalo has control, eichel is signed long term he's also younger and has yet to reach his full potential, with hertl you already know what you are getting. The chances of san jose bringing in a package even nearly close to eichels value is laughable

San Jose declines.

Trade Debrusk and Moore together somewhere for a pair mid level prospects to free up cap space. Then trade for Hertl or JT Miller or whoever.

SJ has little interest in Debrusk and there is not enough return for them without that interest.

Look at the Sharks winger depth and see that Debrusk is the last thing needed. Trades must help both parties not 1 party.

Debrusk - not needed, value reduces because of that regardless
moore - cap dump, not large tho
beecher - low end prospect with no big upside
late first
3rd

not the right package regardless of value.

Teams like MIN, COL, OTT can offer 100x better packages fitting team needs for SJS and themselves.

Boston isn't in position of moving quality youth assets because of how bare bones they are. They can't afford a trade. They should wait till UFA if Hertl is a rental or go after other targets and keep their assest while also trading Debrusk if needed for more youth assets.

Yeah, they're giving me the "Engvall/Dermott/Mikheyev" vibes right now.

I read until the end because I was curious as to how the trainwreck would end....The Debrusk+Beecher+1st is essentially equivalent to 3 1sts for SJ part really gave me a good chuckle too though.

San Jose wing depth is not very good honestly, and that is with Kane and who knows how that plays out.

SJ declines but it’s not because of that.

I don't disagree with that at all. With no extension, a 1st+a top prospect would be a reasonable ask, IMO. 3 team trade list will potentially put a damper on it as well...

Umm:

Meier - Vying for Kanes role if he leaves, talented player struggling, better to play than debrusk
Kane - top 6 high end player, but.. yknow, and hes playing anyways more likely than not
Leonard - shows alot of potential and was very good two way last year, younger and better to play than debrusk

Labanc - actually has been playing well, no need to punish him if hes been good
Bara - played really really good in his small showing, deserves to play top 6 as a result with Hertl until he loses it
3RW - open but Chmelevski and a few other prospect deserve the shot
Balcers (3RW) - play here, played well in his showing and deserves the shot

then we have:

Dahlen, Nieto, Chmelevski as I said, followed by later prospects next year; Bordeleau (tranistion to wing but could be a C), Eklund

The only guy that I would play Debrusk over is in the bottom 6/ 3rd line and thats the RW but Meier, Kane, Leonard should have LW and Debrusk isnt a 4LW. On RW (idk if he can play RW well or has) we could see him take 3RW but if Chmelevski or a guy like Dahlen earns it out of camp its better to let those younger unproven kids play there and Balcers is still around who plays well everywhere but would be best in the bottom 6.

So really its only Balcers, Chemelevski, Dahlen, Nieto (im not even counting Cogs because I dont want him to see ice time lol) who I would play Debrusk over and theyre all bottom 6 which is fine if he can play 3RW or be there if we need a 3LW for unknown reasons yet. Otherwise hes playing 4th line which isnt where Debrusk should play soooo. Only if Kane moves than Debrusk would have a role. Otherwise.. yes the Sharks are too full of wingers to have any use for Debrusk.

Dvorak got 1st and a 2nd and is worse (but good i like him and he had term), Hertl with an ext. is worth more and as a rental as Lenny said he would likely return a 1st/ spec. So basically Dvoraks return minimum/ swap the second for a prospect if hes a rental so nope its not that.

Dvorak hasn’t hit 40 points in his career, Hertl has done it multiple times. If the last two seasons were not cut short, he was on pace for 65 points those seasons and has had a season over 70 points. Hertl can play 1C, Dvorak caps out at 2C. I say he’s worth more than Dvorak even as a “rental” as every likes to come back to in order to justify a bad offer.

Ya that’s not that good. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Meier is better suited for 2nd line playing a first line role.

Labanc is better suited for 3rd line playing a top 6 role.

After that you have bottom 6ers. Roster fillers and spare parts til the better prospects who are years away emerge.

Debrusk has been more productive and has higher ceiling than Labanc. You put Debrusk on that team today and he’s 3rd or 4th best wing. You may not like him or want him. Can’t see past last year. That’s fine. But that is reality.

He does not fit in a rebuild mode for SJ. Which is why I dont see much interest. 1st and Beecher is fine but the 3rd piece should be another prospect not a salaried player not far away from his UFA years. And Moore had no business being in a trade for Hertl when the value isnt there to begin with.

Explains to me why he wouldn’t retire? If bruins win the cup that’s it chances are they won’t see it again for a while. Why wouldn’t he end his career on a high note of being a champion? Also you think Hertl is worth a 1st and a 3rd I think what I’m willing to offer is much more valuable as debrusk and Beecher are in the trade as well

That’s the thing though Dvorak has term, Hertl doesn’t and Hertl has showed no signs of wanting to resign in San Jose with train wreck that’s going on there. The roster is bad it doesn’t have this stacked prospect core better then Boston’s for sure but that ain’t much considering we’ve been a dominant team for 10+ seasons. There is nothing to look forward to in San Jose until karlson, burns, vlasic and coutures contracts are off the book
