The price is LITERALLY not available for pretty much any team because it would require a stupid overpay for a guy who’s basically unproven.

I don’t slight Caufield. But you cannot say he’s a proven commodity with basically zero full time NHL experience (yet he’s proven he has super star potential). So it would both be a overpay and more then likely not worth it trade for whomever is acquiring him. MTL has no need to trade him so the offer would literally have to be stupid to make it worth moving him.

Players I’d consider trading Caufield for:

Jakob Chychrun
Nathan MacKinnon
Cale Makar
Connor McDavid
Leon Draisaitl
Adam Fox
Tim Stützle
Auston Matthews
Brayden Point

Due to Cole’s age and contract status he’s incredibly valuable. (And swapping equivalent players like Caufield for Zegras is useless for Montréal) Not to mention he’s exactly what Montréal needs.

People act like Caufield is the next Kucherov. I sincerely hope so, but it's far from guaranteed. He doesn't have that kind of trade value yet.
If you're looking at an elite player that fills a need, and Caufield is necessary to make it happen, it's possible to trade him. Doesn't matter if people don't like it, that's the truth.
Montreal simply doesn't have a need significant enough to consider trading him any more. Maybe before Dvorak there was a possibility, but that door is closed.

Obviously none of these teams would ever do this. Caufield is more valuable to Montréal than the rest of the league, since he’s as cheap as they get, nearly as young as they get, and exactly what the habs need.

This. This. This.

Y'all are going to need his ELC to remain reasonably flexible over the next couple of years.

However...if you could send him to Anaheim to reunite the greatest bromance of all time (Zegras/Caufield), I'd be quite content tears of joy

I think there’s also another way of putting it:

I wouldn’t trade Caufield (not a MTL fan so this is an outside opinion) - for Eichel.

Caufield is in a value period similar to Makar’s early appearances (which was also playoffs similar to Makar). Not many prospects experience this phase. He’s in this foggy middle period where he has NHL playoff experience which is super valuable yet basically no actual NHL experience. Even more so they both played amazing. So he’s:

A unproven commodity

With proven superstar potential (more than just an opinion but it’s now something tangible which we all saw from both of them in the hardest games of the year, playoffs)

And yet has zero NHL resume (under 20 NHL games) to warrant being a safe bet

I would not move Caufield for really any other prospect except for stupid value returns like Shane Wright (not even an NHLer yet). Maybe someone like Byfield (im a huge fan of byfield). But realistically Caufield is only moving for a safe elite return package. So as I said, im not moving Caufield for Eichel because imo that’s not a safe package. He’s elite but why would I gamble on a 10mil contract when im already super tight for cap. So any package you’re moving Caufield in is gonna be stupid in terms of; why would I move Caufield if I believe he’s gonna become Elite for anything less than elite, while fully understanding Caufield is a gamble/ unproven.

It's not even that. There's just no logical reason for MTL to move a good young forward on an ELC.

Plus, they need to get as much use out of him as possible before he winds up on the Canes. LOL, sorry, I couldn't that.
