It makes more sense for the isles to play Hickey than Chiarot

Also have no room for Lehkonen.

They haven't played him regularly in years. They even preferred the fossils of Zdeno Chara and Andy Greene over him. Chiarot is the kind of defensemen every GM wants when comes playoffs time.

Whats the point of waisting Petry, Anderson, Hoffman and Price last best years? You need to test the market for them as well. They would only make the team better event though wed be rebuilding in the next 2-3 years. What wed need is to suck bad

Never said they will play Hickey, just speaking to the fact that Chiarot would be an awful fit for the islanders. He doesn’t fit what the isles need. They’re either going to play Their top prospect Robin Salo or trade for a more mobile puck moving D.

This year is already wasted at this pace, so might as well draft an elite and fresh talent. Knowing this team they'll try to compete next year with Wright and the rest of the core.

scott mayfield is already a significantly better version of chiarot. why would they want a second one? they need a puck mover.

Nah, Chiarot is off to a bit of a rough start this season but he was a playoff beast last year and showed up in the playoffs when playing for the Jets previously too. He'd be a big upgrade on Hickey for a playoff run, plus Habs could retain to make it nearly a wash salary-wise.

Hickey is in the AHL, the point is Chiarot would be a terrible fit for the isles. He is not mobile and he’s not a puck mover. Chiarot isn’t the type of defenseman the isles would look to trade for.

What a wonderful insight.

Obviously he's not impressing anyone right now, but once again much worse players are still passed around every year and GMs saw Chiarot playing and being effective 20+ minutes in the playoffs two offseasons in a row.

Plus he's on an expiring deal...

I might be naive but didn't MTL trade their first rounder?

They did, but it was a conditional 1st round pick. ARI will receive the higher pick of the two (MTL and CAR) as long as the said pick is not top 10. MTL could end up with the 1st overall, in which case they keep it, and CAR could win the cup and the 32nd pick is transferred to ARI.
