Evgeni Malkin did his first interview in a while today, said he hopes to play a couple of more years preferably with the Pens.
When asked about free agency, Malkin said he's not focused on the money: "I'm like pretty rich guy."
tears of joy What a legend

Both make sense, Geno has been on the pens his whole career and is probably friends with Letang, Sid, etc

So Malkin wants to play 3-5 more years in the NHL after this season

I dont know if Pittsburgh will bring him back for that long but lets see as they are rn in an interesting position when it comes to whether its time to start thinking of the future of stay competing for as long as possible.

Who knows maybe for the final 2 years he ends up in Florida.

Does not mean with Tampa. If a 43 year old Thorton can make it dont see why Geno cant. If anything we might see a monster

Dont see why Panthers would not sign Malkin to a deal at some point. Even at 38 a good chunk of teams would probs love to have him on their 4th line

That's what I meant-I could see them doing it, and hope it doesn't happen

(Feel like I have to explain-the Panthers are the Lightning's biggest in-division rival right now. I would hate it if they managed to get Malkin.)

The fact he did it with an injured wrist for 52 of the 79 games just makes it extra special.

Tampa may beat them to it as they seem to like strong vets on cheap deals

Perry
PEB
Maroon

If Penguins dont sign him I could see Tampa giving him a deal to make him the 3c for a bit.

Malkin's probably going to get a bigger deal than Pat, PEB or Perry though, Lightning won't have the cap space (especially once Pointer's deal goes into effect)

You're going to find a way to trade McDonagh for Chychrun, sign Malkin at 750k, and get your 4th cup in 4 years

Tampa could be running a Syracuse Crunch lineup in game 7 of the final with Vasi in net and still win.

Makes sense; you’re not really making any money with 1000 fans showing up in the Canadian arenas.

Schedule staff are going through hell.

So, apparently, there were 5 more positive tests yesterday of WJC players which would have led to more postponements

Apparently it wasn't just 5 players, but players across 5 TEAMS, makes the decision a little more understandable

No timetable yet, but if he's out until the playoffs, you know what that means...

If we use recent examples

Matthews got wrist surgery August 13 and came back October 18. Crosby same time period just a later return.

If were looking at the same timeline

Pacioretty should be back at the start of March.

Unless there are setbacks got to think they just plan to wait to activate Eichel day 1 of playoffs.

Isn’t Eichel close to a return though?

He skated Dec 2 then all of a sudden no more news, sightings, or reports

I dont know if they are keeping things quiet but it seems they want to keep him out until they can figure something out with their cap.

Seems something fishy be going on rn

I don’t think Zito would have interest in signing Malkin
