Also, posting this here in this thread:

Does the start from scratch thing mean that Canada could bring the likes of Byfield, Drysdale, and Jarvis if they want? Since it would take place in the summer, after the NHL is done, presumably the NHL teams wouldn’t mind loaning them out for some conditioning.

Also what would it mean for points? Like, McDavid as a 16yo only had 4 points in the tournament, Bedard was already at 5 points through 2 games, which is super impressive and noteworthy as a talking point/for projections. Are we supposed to forget that, and only count points in the new tournament? Or will he potentially get 9 games to his name in 1 tournament (typically the max is 7: 4 RR/QF/SF/F) and another crack at lighting up Austria? I think it makes more sense from a stats and fairness (they earned these points) perspective to treat the 1-2 existing games as already played and go from there (but only games played, not the forfeits) but I can see how that would be awkward (e.g. Canada only gets 2 games before the medal rounds, most teams get 3 which is a better warm-up).

I believe most of these guys will be 20 and the tournament is a U20 tourney. Byfield though technically could go as he is not gonna turn 20 till August

They’re all 02 birth years. The rule for this tournament is born in 02 or later, 01s not allowed. Presumably that won’t change just because the tournament got bumped back 6 months. Otherwise guys (like Hirvonen for example) won’t be allowed to play.

Pretty accurate imo

Tanev, Bunting, Spezza, Nurse, Wilson, Dubois, Barrie, Morrisey, Doughty all won't make it. Just a guess.

Byfield, Clarke, Cozens, Quinn, Drysdale, Power, Dach, Smith, Levi for goal, etc.

Teams that have bright future:

Ducks
Kings
Devils
Senators
Red Wings
Hurricanes
Maybe the Sabres.
Give me some feedback

Well yes, teams that have a solid prospect pool usually tend to have a bright future.

Imo you forgot the team with probably the best prospect pool in the entire league. Kings.

Completely agree, didn't say it was bad, just that I feel for the players-it's going to be FRIGID

Would be awesome if it snowed, like that Flames-Jets Heritage Classic in Saskatchewan from a couple of season ago...

Speaking of Saskatchewan, it's below minus 30 C out here. Minus 40 if you count the wind chill.

Barrie, Tanev, Bunting, Spezza, and Doughty? What a joke. Tanev especially, he’s a 3rd liner now, like come on, I’d legitimately rather see Bergeron as a 75yo on that team over Tanev. Why does Button have any credibility as a journalist, all he does is post the most truly terrible takes.

Such as Team Canada Captain Yanni Gourde.

How can anybody who gets paid to give their opinions on hockey, or doesn’t get paid for that matter, say with a straight face Jason Spezza, Michael Bunting AND Brandon Tanev should make, not this Olympic team but the one in 4 years

He went there too. I saw this on elite prospects.com and then I realized his brother is on my football team, lacrosse team, and in my science class. I knew him but I didn’t know his name. I said to him that his brother should do what Adam fox did but go to the islanders because that’s his favorite team

Finally a Long Island (future) NHLer who grew up an islanders fan

Honestly having Jason Spezza making Team Canada in TWENTY TWENTY SIX makes his previous (and well documented by yours truly) pick of Yanni Gourde look good

Probably better than having a 42 year old Jason Spezza (for the record I'm a huge Spezza fan) on the Olympic roster. Not sure how Craig Button has a job in sport journalism.

Nah knowing Cherry he would have 4th line Grinders everywhere. Would rather have a 42 year old Spezza then that lul.

Every human being I have come across on this website could make a better team Canada than him. Having his job would be an absolute dream come true, and I bet I’d do it better than he does

I would make Spezza an assistant coach wink

In all honesty thats probs whats gonna happen to him. Dont know the team but I feel hes gonna be an NHL coach or assistant coach

Or he gets a job with MLSE management.

Probably lol. Depends on exactly which 4th line grinders it is.

As per Mc-Je-sus...and how he should (eventually) transform the YTD WILDCARD OIL:

* The bright future unknown = whomever wins the 'Wright' & then the 'Bedard' lotteries...?

So apparently one of Marleau's kids was almost kidnapped

Good thing they failed as imagine the headlines

"Former NHLers kid kidnapped"

Still wondering if Marleau will sign a late deal with a contender
