Such a shame for those players who are living out their dream of playing for their country only to have it come to an abrupt end.

Actually cringe that they’re cancelling the tournament, pretty stupid.

They are worried about it so much that they cancel it; but they didn’t put any protocols or good guidelines in place while they were so worried. So they set themselves up for failure.

Even then, 4 cases isn’t worth shutting down..

What a mess

Tournament should have been delayed till March or at least when we saw the numbers of cases drop. It was irresponsible for the IIHF to host the tournament in the midst of rising Omicron numbers in Alberta. As it was almost guaranteed to run through the tournament due to having a high spread rate especially when their are fans in the building (even if they are masked)

Anyways feels bad for the prospects who are not gonna get a chance to showcase what they got.

Hopefully IIHF can make up for this and Rip the hotels at Red Deer as got to think IIHF wont use them lul. Hosting a wedding in the midst of Covid and a hockey tournament facepalm

yeah regardless of beliefs on COVID, the IIHF is a joke and they basically planned to cancel the tournament with how dumb they set things up.

And regardless of beliefs (I am vaxxed for example etc) - cancelling the entire tournament over 4 cases is actually comical. Actually laughable, and if you're that worried maybe actually set up restrictions and guidelines and bubbles etc - instead they fumbled everything.

Ruining the best tourney of the year.

Yep, the real problem here is the IIHF's planning, they had no choice but to cancel due to said horrible planning. They put themselves in a corner and expected that a door would magically appear

Over 4 cases with apparently everyone of them near symptomless. If they were like those Nucks players were when they got hit by delta around one year ago with them being very very sick I'd understand but imo this is getting too far.

The problem isn't with the cases, it's with the planning, with no extra days, teams who had to forfeit are at a huge disadvantage for the rest of the tournament and it becomes a who had Covid less tournament

I think there's problems with all of the crap related to the issue, but the biggest issue is the lack of preparation from the organizers.

Not a great start on Tardif's reign as the chairman of IIHF.

Nah, planning is obviously the issue. But 4 cases is a joke to cancel. Like tomorrow if everyone is negative but those 4 players - that's actually hilarious. If it was like 12 players maybe I would understand.

Yeah and certainly those that this would’ve been their only chance to represent their country internationally.

Apparently the Russian player who got a positive test result was Michkov.

A shame considering how good he looked during this tournament.

That's what I'd say IF WE STILL HAD A TOURNAMENT. Smh IIHF.

Don't really have anything to say about the tournament being cancelled. Just apathetic about it.

Standouts of this short-lived WJC were Lambert (FIN, 1G, 4A), Bedard (CAN, 4G, 1A), McTavish (CAN, 3G, 2A), Perfetti (CAN, 1G, 5A), Power (CAN, 3G, 2A), Michkov (RUS, 3G) and in regard to goalies, Wallstedt (SWE, 2 games, 1.50 GAA, .962 SV%). Also Eklund and Edvinsson (SWE), Cooley (USA), and Helenius and Koivunen (FIN) looked pretty good as well.
