Canes pass hard. KK's their future 2C. They're not giving him up for a 3rd line winger and a fringe NHLer

Barrie and Zaitsev are same salary and Oilers add a goalie.

I have a different impression of Brannstrom. Wouldn't classify him as "fringe" at all.

    1. You're overpaying Alex Formenton by about 1 million.

    2. Victor Mete, Dylan Gambrell, Adam Gaudette and Jesperi Kotkaniemi want qualifying offers and you're not handing them out for some reason.

    3. You're grossly overpaying for Anton Forsberg by about 2 million.

    4. Ian Cole is not signing in Ottawa because we once traded him away within hours of acquiring him.

    5. Bryan Rust would rather sign that with Pittsburgh.

    6. The trades with Carolina and New Jersey are horrible for Ottawa.

He also called Brown a 3rd liner, lol. Connor Brown has played 82 games between last season and this season, and has 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points in those 82 games, hardly a 3rd liner, lol.

On the contrary, I’d say none of these deals really benefit Ottawa other than the Rags deal.

Wouldn’t do Brown for KK 1 for 1 let alone with Branny added. Paying your best RD prospect, your 2nd from 2020 who’s tearing the AHL up and another high 2nd for a Severson rental certainly doesn’t help. And then giving your best current goalie of the future who played exceptionally last year to “upgrade” from Zaitsev to Barrie… wouldn’t want to touch that either.

Tierney for a 2nd may even be an overpay, 3rd would do fine but a 2nd definitely gets accepted. Other than that Ottawa is just handing out almost NHL ready prospects for borderline additions.

Coaches ineptitude doesn't excuse his lack of ability to break in. The best players break through and take the decision away from the coach

Norris will easily be worth more than that but that would be another great signing by Dorion (after Batherson's contract). I am the farthest thing from a Dorion fan but credit where credit is due

Jake Sanderson's ELC will start in 2021-22 so it should say 2 years here

Don't think giving a 4 years contract at 3.5 AAV to Georgiev would be smart. I think Murray is much better, however might have health issues

2 years at 2.8 AAV for Forsberg is another mistake

Ian Cole turns 33 y/o very soon, don't know if it's safe to sign him to that contract. They had him a few years ago and traded him for a 3rd right away

Unless they really have a LOT of faith in Kotkaniemi and are high on Honka, no way the Sens should do that. Connor Brown is worth 1st + good prospect, Brannstrom is worth late 1st/early 2nd so that's 2 first round picks and a prospect. Kotkaniemi because of his QO doesn't have much value. He will probably sign a more reasonable contract in Carolina but no guarantee he wouldn't play hardball somewhere else.

That Devils trade is pretty bad for the Sens. Yes Murray is overpaid and struggles to stay healthy but Bernier's career is probably over. Severson is a good D-man but the Sens really shouldn't give up two very good prospects and an early 2nd here

That Oilers proposal is also pretty bad. Sens aren't going to sacrifice a future starting goalie for Tyson freaking Barrie.

Finally, Tierney isn't worth much these days. Dorion (who is the greater asset manager) in history waited way too long

Damn people know nothing about other team's players. Connor Brown is a lot MORE than a "3rd liner" lol

And Brannstrom is not a " fringe NHLer", he's a 22 y/o D-man looking better and better every game. The AHL/NHL travels were not because he sucks but because he has been "in development". Covid and injuries slowed him down a bit but Batherson has also been developed in a similar manner and look at him today.

Also, what people in lack of hockey knowledge/understanding DO NOT understand is that Connor Brown does all that matched up at ES against other teams top forwards, or on the PK, while being mainly deployed in the defensive zone. He has not been deployed as a top-6 forward and doesn't play on the PP much. He does because of covid/injuries but that's not his role.

He's an elite matchup forward ala Danault, Pageau, etc with a 0.63 PPG in Ottawa (153 GP). It's extremely valuable.

OP is not a Sens fan and pretty much all of this is pretty bad for Ottawa outside of Norris contract which is a steal. Oh and yeah, Tierney was worth that 2 years ago but now probably not more than a 6th

Sokolov? 24 goals, 46 pts in 62 AHL GP, already a fan favorite.

Also, that 2nd is 35th OA at the moment, that's another good prospect if your team knows how to draft

Murray is not the centerpiece at all. JBD, Sokolov and that 2nd are the pieces, in that order.

Also, Murray at 4.75 AAV could be a good asset too. He has shown several times that he is still pretty good when he has a NHL defense in front of him. Unfortunately, the team has been heavily mismanaged and coached so it doesn't happen that often. He also has a hard time staying healthy so he could possibly end up in LTIR.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just want to add context to your comment.

There are 31 teams that could have claimed Murray off waivers, and I think this was your point, any team including the NJD could have claimed him for free. Now, of the 31 teams, only 9 have the cap space to accomodate Murray's cap hit, but the NJD are one of those 9 teams, so the comment still holds weight. Of those 9 teams, 6 have goalies signed for a substantial cap hit, most for decent term. The NJD have Berniers signed for $4.125MM through 22/23, one season less than Murray. The final 3 teams, Arizona, Detroit, and Buffalo had the cap space, and do not have a goalie signed to a high cap hit and term. Arizona is entering a rebuild, and are selling their cap space for picks. That leaves 2 teams that could have reasonably picked up Murray off waivers for free. Why we think they didn't is irrelevant, as we can only speculate as to their goalie plans.

In the above trade scennario, Berniers is a part of the trade, which makes sense since the NJD wouldn't want both him and Murray. So the trade might be good, and it might be bad, but the argument that Murray was not claimed should not be used to determine the value of this trade idea.

I don't like the trade as it is, I'd swap out Sokolov for a better prospect. I like Sokolov, but he doesn't have a high trade value. JBD is just so good, so steady and reliable, and that 2nd is going to be a good pick. A decent prospect makes this a decent offer, IMO.

Bernier's career may be over. He is certainly out for this season and likely parts of next season if he returns at all. So we need a goalie in the short term, but we also have two very good prospects in AHL, both have been solid this year at that level:

    Akira Schmid: 10 gp, 1.60 gaa, 0.944 sv%
    Nico Daws: 11 gp, 2.31 gaa, 0.923 sv%

So our needs in net are more short-term focused with Bernier out (and Corey Crawford retired).

I would think Forsberg could be a guy Devils look at. But we wouldn't have Severson in that deal.

I wasn't intending to diminish Sokolov at all. I had him just outside my top-100 prospects. JBD was at #51.
I was just simplifying the trade to "JBD and a 1st"... But obviously that 1st will be too high if season ended today, which is why I said "or similar".

I think Devils end up keeping Severson anyway.

I was just simplifying the trade to "JBD and a 1st"... But obviously that 1st will be too high if season ended today, which is why I said "or similar".

I think Devils end up keeping Severson anyway.

Not that I thought that you were diminishing Sokolov but you didn't mention him and said that Murray was the "centerpiece of a deal for Severson"

And thanks for the link, always enjoy looking at these lists

So that return is not that bad according to your rankings... the 51st best prospect, another guy just outside your top-100 and a 2nd round round that is in fact an early 2nd round pick, which is not far from the value of a late 1st round pick... Sokolov MORE THAN MAKE UP FOR that difference...

That being said, not interested in making this deal anyway. I'll keep the young RD on his ELC and the 21 y/o AHL top-6 forward, plus the early pick where they'll get another Jarventie/Sogaard caliber prospect

Oh and where is Pinto? He's born after 2000 and will be eligible for the Calder next year. This is (approx) how Sens fans would rank our prospects at the moment :

1- Jake Sanderson (you have him 2nd)
    2- Shane Pinto (Not ranked)
3- Ridly Greig (you have him 83rd, he should be much higher than JBD to be honest)
    4- Jacob Bernard-Docker (you have him 51st)
    5- Mads Søgaard (Not ranked)
6- Roby Järventie (you have him 91st)
    7- Lassi Thomson (Not ranked)
    8- Filip Gustavsson (Not eligible)
9- Egor Sokolov (you said you have him just outside the top-100)
10- Tyler Kleven (Not ranked, but I see you have him as an Honorable Mention)
11- Tyler Boucher (you have him at 70th but most Sens fans don't have him in our top-10 at the moment)
    ----
12- Angus Crookshank (very underrated but still shouldn't be top-100, tier cut-off between Boucher and him)
    13- Viktor Lodin
    14- Leevi Merilainen
    15- Zack Ostapchuk
