I think that's a very big mistake for Carolina. Morrow could easily be better and Carolina has plenty of cap space so adding Gardiner isn't really necessary.

No need to complicate it. Take out Pitlick, Khudobin, and Eriksson. It's not a high return for Petry, but we'd be going for a change of scenery type deal here.

Due to monetary reasons we need Khudobin to be included. Plus for this year trading Faksa doesn't really work without a center coming back.

I think I'd be willing to add more value to have both of them included.

Montreal isn't giving away Petry, you're missing some value here. Faska is ok as a 3C but has a 5 team NTC which Montreal is likely on. Khudobin is not needed once Price and Allen return. Ericson and the 2nd aren't enough to trade Petry for. Gonna have to change this to something like Kiviranta + to get the Habs interested.

Morrow is an untouchable, full stop. Canes won’t be trading him for Klingberg, Miller, or anyone else.

They are cap dumps in this exchange. DAL can't afford taking Petry in without those going other way even if they wanted to, which I doubt honestly.

Kiviranta might be expendable in this trade, but fundamentally speaking MTL can't be asking for too much. Petry's performance doesn't warrant a major return...or at least that's what I like to think, but...the GMs of this league are very hard to predict right now...we've seen some really stupid crap from them, haven't we...

It's not a massive surprise, Canes fans here tend to be VERY high on their prospects.

Do tell, which prospects (with actual NHL potential thank you, I'm not really interested in 4th-7th rounds picks with iffy potential here when dealing a first pair D-man) might be available then?

Apparently Morrow is the next Makar if you ask them. Not sure he will be that good but that’s a very bold statement.

By that comparison I think you just downplayed Morrow honestly.

He's the next Bobby Orr, which is funny, considering Canes have a prospect with that exact same name.

Petry's value is not as low as you want to believe. He did after all just finish top 10 in every offensive cataory among D men last season, has had 4 straight 40 point seasons, was a Norris finalist last season, is a top pairing RHD and still knows how to skate, shoot and pass.

Which is exactly why I'm taking a punt on the guy. I mean why would I bother wasting assets for a guy who has 6 points this year at 34 years old and a salary north of $6M for the next 3,5 years and with extremely poor stats in almost every possible regard if he didn't have some "promise" in him?

I'm willing to make a small bet on him to get back where he was. But there's no way I'd bet very high on him. At that age, a bounceback gets all the more unlikely.

Best I can offer is a prospect and a second round pick with a condition that MTL takes in some salary from Dallas, because it wouldn't even work otherwise.

I'm perfectly content with not getting him too, honestly. This seems a very Subban-esque situation where he got moved from NSH to NJ.

By what measure is Klingberg a 1st pair D? He wouldn’t be that on the Canes.

What sort of history does the current Canes management have in dealing such high end assets for a rental? Hmmm, none. In fact, they’ve very much said they are against such deals.

If the Canea are interested, they’re interested in getting him at a price they’re comfortable with, certainly not the ridiculous price you’ve set.

I can't say for certain in which role Klingberg would fit in Carolina, but by playstyle I'd have to assume he'd be a Hamilton replacement. He's played first pair for pretty much his whole time in Dallas, and he's clocked 22 minutes per on average without really playing PK. That's first pair minutes. And I'd argue CAR has no better RHDs than Klingberg is.

If a price of a solid prospect plus first (which ironically is around the same asking price as MTL has for f*cking Chiarot) is too much, then what do you think is fair? Because it seems we see the guy in a very different light.

See Montreal won't move him for what you are offering, Hughes already said he is not selling low on Petry. TBH if I am Hughes I hang on to Petry until at least the summer and tell him "if you want to be traded you need to pickup your game, otherwise your here until your contract expires". We need Petry or we need a replacement, we simply can't trade him without a backup plan.

No clue, really. I'm not a huge fan of rushing prospects but if Canes think he's ready, then probably.

I think you'd have to raise the 2nd to a 1st at minimum. I know that doesn't make sense as Pitlick was a waiver claim, but I think most recognize that it shouldn't have happened, just as when Nashville similarly lost him.
He also hasn't been playing center, but that may just be due to a lack of opportunity. Whether you think center is still a possibility is up to you.

It's probably better and more reasonable to find a C elsewhere instead of adding to a Petry trade. We're already selling low here, so adding value from Montreal's side is going to make things difficult.

That might be probably the best course of action for the Habs, which is a shame for Petry.

Yeah I like Petry and understand his situation. Petry also is only interested in being traded because of his family situation so if that works itself out then he likely stays anyway lol.
