Revisiting my takes from the first season discussion thread:

Actually, he was terrible everywhere he had been prior to last season. He had really good analytics last season, but it was probably partly due to the forwards & his D partner having good numbers as well. He just had a very rough injury and he barely looks like the same player. I don't know, I think he's better than he's showing recently and I don't think the team should be looking to move him. He's the staple they need on D when Petry is gone.

No one lol. That's my point. Chiarot got equivalent of 1st + 3rd + 4th. I think we can all agree Edmundson is the better player. Edmundson is signed 2 more years than Chiarot. Edmundson will be the habs captain. So I'm saying if a team wants the habs to listen on Edmundson, it starts with 1st + 2nd.

I'm hearing the Leafs are considering a trade involving Kerfoot, Mrazek, and Holl to the Rangers for a bunch of late-round picks this offseason

Edmundson's not really better than Chiarot, they're around the same value range, if the right offer comes along like Toffoli, we move him

"I know how much GMs hate when trade discussions get leaked, but I'm confirming this one right now. Leafs fans have been asking for this kind of deal since the start of the season, and who am I to let them down? What's that? I'm saying, why in hell should we trade Edmundson. He's a leader. He's a great Mentor. He's the perfect 2LD. He's on a great contract. Not that he's worth it, but If I'm the habs, I'd only talk an Eddy trade if they start offering 1st + 2nd or the equivalent

That is the amount of shots Jake Allen has faced in his last five games. Granted it's been against good teams (BOS, TOR, CAR and FLA twice). Montembeault played against NJ when they let past "only" 32 shots.

So basically Jake Allen has made 209 saves in last five games in total, with 20 goals against. He's done admirably well.

What is not doing admirably well is Habs defense. They're absolutely ghastly.

They seriously need to do something to that D core, because that is not sustainable by any means.


Petry does help, we just don't seee it. The Chiarot loss was a big blow to the habs.
IMO the shot count doesn't do any justice. I think high danger chances shows how bad the defense is.

You're right, we should trade Edmundson only if the right offer comes along but to think Edmundson gets close to a Toffoli return is lunacy. I'd gladly take a Chiarot type return for him or even something that's around 2 2nds worth of value

Imo the shot count provides us two things. It shows how much unable Habs are protecting the goal from the shot and how much offensive possession the opposing team has to put in such numbers.

They have a long hill to climb for themselves. Granted the injuries don't help, but that D is massively underperforming, and it's especially showing with their actual NHL guys. And probably coaching too, as St.Louis is also very inexperienced in this line of work in the NHL.

I agree with that, get Guy Boucher or Benoit Groulx as Accociate Coach. Because, I think, when the games will eventually matter, I don't think MSL would have this much succes
