This is a random trade idea I had - need input

Created by: Random2152
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 9, 2022
Published: Apr. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No idea on the value but I think it could make some sense if properly massaged.

The key is wahlstrom and a d coming back, AB is more a cost controlled throw in and is entirely negotiable in this trade. Thoughts?

I'm just spitballing here.

A trade based around Girard for wahlstrom plus Mayfield should get it done yeah? Not like Mayfield carries that much value

I mean yeah the Avs *should* accept but Wahlstrom is untouchable, he should not and likely will not be a trading chip for a LHD

Ok so it's a role issue not value then. Got it. That is what I was looking for

All 3 players the Islanders are sending to Colorado are better than Girard. That being said Sakic traded 2 2nds for Devon Toews so I could see it happening lol.

I could honestly see a Wahlstrom for Byram swap if not for the concussion issue. I think both teams would be too nervous to pull the trigger.

Lou has too much of an ego to trade his first draft pick with the team anyways plus Wahlstrom plays a style Lou likes.

The islanders wouldn't trade Wahlstrom for Girard straight up. Maybe Beauvillier.

Mayfield is a righty d man. Ollie is on an ELC. And they can’t trade Beau cause they have very few wings with speed. Girard isn’t more valuable to the Isles than any of these 3. I shouldn’t have said he isn’t better than them though. I phrased it poorly.

They could trade mayfield for a lefty if they had to, but he’s much more affordable than Girard next year and this team has to give Dobson a new contract this off-season. Then Barzal and Wahlstrom in 2023.

That is laughably false. Girard is the best player in this deal, and it isn’t close.

phrasing gets you a long way! but i disagree though that they should not trade beau for girard its easier.to fill void created by winger than defenseman, you guys should you with the chara/greene debacle.

I agree with you on value, but I’m not a huge fan of Girard. He’s good don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather move draft capital to get Dunn or Soucy if it lets me keep Beauvillier.

I’m comfortable with Salo on the 2nd or 3rd pair. Girard makes a lot and they have cap issues.

Not a huge fan of his. I don’t have a subscription to evolving hockey so I just looked at the Jfresh metrics.

Don’t care about that one bit. He’s a top pair caliber player. By miles the best player in this trade. There isn’t even an argument to the contrary. Top of the lineup guy vs middle six and a bottom pair d.

Beau is top six. Mayfield is a top four level defender but is behind Dobson and Pulock. And they aren’t trading Wahlstrom for Girard.

He’s good if he plays with Makar or has Graves to cover for his poor d zone coverage. He’s not my type of player and reminds me way too much off Shayne Gosistisbehere.

I’m the first guy who will tell you the analytics community is far from perfect. You can read about players criticizing analysts for failing to identify who the goal should be blamed on. TSN or the hockey news wrote about it a few years ago. That being said Girard is one of those guys that fails both the eye test and the analytics test.

You have no idea what your talking about. Sakic took advantage of a cap situation and putting Toews into a better situation let him blossom. Girard is a 23yo top pairing capable dman that produces 30+pts with zero PP1 time his advanced metrics crush Mayfield, and oh yeah he is signed at a sweet heart deal for the next half decade. But he’s under 6’ so he must suck. Girard on a decent team getting PP1 time is a 22+ minute eating machine that produces at a near 50pt pace.

You could the Avs can’t. Bro you are overvaluing Isles like no tomorrow. Wahlstrom and a 1st doesn’t get Byram.

This is the correct take. In trading Helleson and Barron that kind of locked the Avs top 4 for next year. The 23 off season might be different if they are trying to extend Toews.

Your ignorance is showing. He rarely plays with Makar, Graves doesn’t even play for the Avs. What you don’t like is that he is small. He is an elite skater and puck handler. He plays solid defense but does it with positioning and stick play. He can play both sides. Will he get crushed from time to time in puck battles because of his size sure. But it’s comical how CF fans over/under value guys because of their size.
