Trades
1.
CHI
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Figure taking Mrazek's cap is worth a second, but Toronto dosn't have one, so sending a 2nd back for a high end prospect.
2.
CHI
  1. Petry, Jeff
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Habs need to clear space and have said they might look to move Petry, but would need a cost-controlled replacement for them. A 3rd round pick + seems fair for Murphy, who is mid-level dman. I'm pulling in a second-rounder for taking on the remainder of Petry's entire salary for 3 years, and to cover the + on Murphy.
3.
CHI
  1. Lucius, Chaz
  2. 2022 4th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Hawks need young centers. If Toews wants to move, Winnipeg might be a good destination for him. Would be willing to move the draft picks around to balance things out.
WPG
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($5,000,000 retained)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (CAR)
4.
CHI
  1. 2023 4th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Kubalik, Dominik [RFA Rights]
5.
CHI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (OTT)
OTT
  1. Jones, Seth
Additional Details:
Sens are supposedly open to trading their first for a top-6 forward or a top 4-defenseman. If Jones is willing to waive, might be a good landing spot for him. If not, would be willing to move another one of our top defenders (was originally looking at McCabe along with a second).

Not even the slightest chance Winnipeg considers that.

You are stuck with that Seth Jones contract....they aren't paying a 1st to take it on...

I love how the leafs need to give up a high end prospect to get rid of mrazek but the hawks get a high 1st to unload a much much much worse one

My favorite is how Mrazek is going to cost a 1st plus to move but costs 1 million to buyout, and at the same time most on here think Campbell gets 5+ million because the goalie market is paper thin this year. A paper thin market and there is a guy who has a career .915 sv% available for basically nothing but costs a 1st to move. Funny how that logic breaks

Habs don't "have to clear cap space", especially with Byron and Price who are probably both done. They'd keep the better defender and the picks.

Montreal has cap and already said they are not
trading Petry unless a deal makes sense for them. This makes no sense for the Habs, Petry is still a top 4 RD which in this league are very rare.

Would rather give up a 2022 3rd or Second than trade away Raddysh. Would be ok with Vesalainen instead of Lucius though, as he still fills a need the Hawks have.

1m in cap is very valuable to the leafs, let's pretend they would give a first and Knies was only equivalent to a 1st to Dubas. Now why he trade an ELC player that he hopes/expects would add a lot of value to the team soon (maybe as soon as next post-season if his NCAA team doesn't make a deep run)

As for Campbell, it's reasonable for him to want to get paid but that won't happen at 5m in Toronto. They would be better off, offering him 4mx8 and Dubas won't do that either. He will probably go for a cheap duo (and get a 4-5m RD) or get someone like Gibson if he can get him for cheap (with rentals like Kerfoot and Holl that the Ducks can use and flip, and picks/prospects that are lower in the pool than Knies or Niemela, he might give up Woll or whoever the top goalie prospect is on the Leafs)

The funniest trades though are the ones that are valuing Nylander less than a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Would be nice if people would at least look at the GMs past trades.

Mrazek doesn't cost a 1st to move. Or Knies or likely even a 2nd. Ritchie was moved for Lyubushkin and all it cost was a 3rd or a 2nd from 2 years from now. That's a pretty great trade, why would Mrazek who has a proven track record as an NHL goalie not have some interest in a paper thin market? Someone who misses out on all goalie options may add Mrazek for basically nothing. GM's don't forget everything a player did before one bad season that was injury riddled.

As a sens fan I wouldn't mind the trade and give up the first for Jones, him and Sanderson would be a dream pairing. That being said I think the contract does create a roadblock. Sens are already paying 8 apiece to Chabot and Brady, now even if they can get Stuzle and Norris done at 8 apiece as well, that is over 30 of your cap so adding jones to that means they would have close to half their total cap to 5 players. Then you are getting into trouble filling out the rest of your team, especially goaltending.

So while I like the idea of having him, I think the cap doesn't make it work.

Yeah, I know the 1m isn't worth a 1st just wanted to show how bad of a trade it would be to trade Knies (who is a chance at cap savings himself). Chances are that they dump him to a team that needs to pay guys to be cap compliant that also needs a goalie under contract (and maybe he bounces back with them and they flip him). Or a team that needs a goalie but missed their chance during FA like you said. If GMs play hardball with Dubas he will just buy him out.

Maybe or perhaps he gets added into a trade for a Gibson-caliber goalie if there is a team out there that wouldn't have a replacement and can afford to buy him out as well.

Gibson has 3 straight seasons of sub .905 SV %. What calibre of goalie is he exactly?

He's considered elite still, his bad stats just makes him cheaper or prevents a trade from happening

That's a good question, he might not be anymore among the execs but he's probably still considered a solid starter. He's going to get the benefit of the doubt, that being said trading for him in particular is probably not a good move since if he doesn't produce to an elite level, then they are on the hook for 6.4m. The Leafs need their goalie tandem to be worth under 6m for the next 3 years probably
