What if White changed his name to "Blanc"?

Then the Hawks won't move him. There's no need for the Hawks to trade Debrincat short of getting a boatload of picks for him, and the only way they'll trade him is if they're blown away by an offer ala Hagel.

Correct. That's why a trade to Ottawa is slim to none.

Hawks ask for Sanderson instead of Brannstrom or Greig or Pinto instead of Greig as the base of the trade or they aren't interested. The #7OA is in a very weak top 15 this year so it doesn't really move the needle like it would in a typical year.

It's widely reported what Chicago wants according to The Athletic which is probably the most reliable source in the NHL; https://hockeyroyalty.com/2022/06/20/blackhawks-reveal-asking-price-for-forward-alex-debrincat/

I think NJ if they know they can't sign Gaudreau can offer a better prospect and the number 2 overall.

If they wanted to trade him though to move on or whatever, the 7th overall pick and 2 first round prospects wouldn't be the worst return ever

I think that Montreal would pass, we want to move Drouin but not for White who's contract is 2 years longer at just 750k less and the 2nd does not cover the difference. If we need to we can literally do a Bishop type of move with Drouin

It sounded at the Deadline like MTL was interested in White. Is he overpaid? Absolutely. But he could still be an effective top 9 player and it's a contract you can live with and easily move if needed. Ottawa may need to add more but it's not far

Brannstrom can't play regular minutes with a bad Ottawa team, why would he be a good prospect for Chicago who's rebuilding to pickup?

The problem with the deadline and now though is that, we won the 1st OVA pick and are most likely adding Wright. That pretty well removes any interest Montreal had back then. We are actually reportedly looking to move Dvorak so acquiring another center is unlikely rn.

The main pieces of the deal are the 7th and Greig who is a really good prospect but Brannstrom still has some potential to be good. Doesn't hurt to throw him in

There's literally nothing that Ottawa (or any team really) would realistically offer that would have chicago fans say "chicago says yes".

To Hawks fans: the chances that you will be happy with the Debrincat return are dismal.

7th overall plus greig is at least a good starting point. Might cost Ottawa their 2023 pick though

The way I look at it, they need to recoup assets from the Jones deal.

The 7th overall, Greig, Thomson/JBD and an unprotected 1st next year is a good start. I would throw in Connor Brown at half retained if they want to move him at the TDL for more assets.
